  1. Students voting on an athletics fee need to be aware of information like this.
  2. High school students are generally more broke than college students, and they can usually find the 5 bucks or so to get into their football and basketball games. I was astonished when I showed up for my first UNT game and it was FREE. I know that generations of spoiled whiny UNT students and alumni gripe about giving a few bucks (we've been conditioned for that). But new students would not blink an eye to pay $5--yes, on top of an athletics fee (parents of high school students are already paying taxes to fund high school athletics)--to get into a football game. I'm not saying students need to be charged. But I don't think free admission is a panacea for student apathy, either.
  3. It makes me a little nervous seeing this much tinkering going on this close to the season opener. I'd rather not go into Manhattan with a whole squad adjusting to new positions.
  4. They're each kind of bookends of seniority--9 year veteran and a rookie. I'll be pulling for the Voodoo now.
  5. It's tough enough to pick four using football only, players only. I say: Mean Joe Scott Davis or Steve Ramsey (I'll have to let someone who actually saw both play pick which) Mitch Maher (bias admitted - he was the face of NT football my first two years) Patrick Cobbs
  6. Tune must be looking pretty good in practice. I've assumed it was a given that Meager, or perhaps Riley, would be the #2.
  7. Yes, thanks for the update.
  8. I echo all the above sentiments. What you provide on your website is clearly a labor of love, and I appreciate your good work.
  9. I've been saying 5-7 since the DeLoach return was announced and the last signing class was wrapped up. I figured a reasonably decent improvement on defense would have to get us 3 additional wins to last year's total easily. However, after the losses at DE I am not so sure how improved we will be. I expect a major improvement in the secondary, but our DL will not be as talented. I'll go ahead and stick with 5-7, but now I think I'm shooting high rather than low.
  10. One pundit wrote, "Chances are Awasom won't play again in the NFL (certainly not for the Giants)." I hope he's wrong, but it doesn't look like anyone has picked him up.
  11. If oil speculators pushed the profits up by taking long positions in futures, then they killed themselves by holding long positions when the price went back down. You can't make a profit doing that.
  12. I think the rumor that the sky is not really falling has just proved false.
  13. I'm not familiar with any Falwell comments construed as anti-American, certainly not comparably so to Wright's "God d-n America."
  14. Wow. Talk about opposite ends of the spectrum.
  15. I individually bought each of the North Texas games that were broadcast on GamePlan. I can't remember if they had 3 games or 4, but that's $90 or $120. Right now the package is going for $109, so if you're interested in watching other games besides the UNT games, I'd say it's worth it. Even with the sorry announcing. EDIT: I just saw the Sun Belt TV schedule linked above, and it looks like North Texas only has 2 games scheduled for ESPN+. More may be added to that, but for me it's not worth the package price for 2 UNT games.
  16. According to Vito, Meager was at a doctor's appointment, and Tune had class.
  17. I love hockey, but surpass college basketball and football? Only if North Texas relocates to Boston.
  18. In all fairness, he was thrown to the wolves. He had no 1-A experience, and his first game he was in single man coverage against OU, mostly on All-American Malcolm Kelly. I think his confidence was shot after that game.
  19. Seems to me I heard about that somewhere, but for the life of me I can't remember where.
  20. I'm not saying the quote means that a stadium is not coming soon. But the quote certainly provides no hope that a stadium is coming soon. Put that quote together with recent comments made by RV to the effect of, "If we do not get a new stadium now, I do not know when we will" (loose paraphrase). This is why I do not find that phrase, posted as the subtitle of the thread apparently as a source of encouragement, encouraging. I appreciate your optimism, and I am not trying to be a downer. I am not saying that we will not be in a new stadium in 2010 or 2011. I have no real insider information one way or the other. Boomer23 is on campus, and obviously has a much better take on the student pulse than I do. I hope he is right, and he may well be. I'm glad that Prez Gretchen expresses a commitment to "hang in there," but I would be even more encouraged if she would have said, "We need to get a new stadium, and the time is now."
  21. People I know from Brownwood consider themselves from Central Texas. They like to remind folks that they are just about the geographical center of the state.
  22. I don't see the phrase "no matter how long it takes" as encouraging.
  23. I don't mind being ranked this low at the beginning of the season at all. Gives us the "underdog advantage." Now, if all these folks are ranking us this low at the end of the season, it might be a sign of some serious problems.
  24. Welcome to the board! It seems we have several new posters the past couple of days.
