  1. This guy says no: https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/college-football-transfer-portal-are-group-of-five-programs-actually-being-raided-by-power-conferences/ Color me skeptical, but I thought this was worth posting for no other reason than the photo CBS Sports chose to represent "G5."
  2. Interesting...of course, they were called the "Iowa State Chicken Tenders" at State Club. And other than the chicken tenders, the menu looks very, very different. Of course, I imagine they're catering to a very different crowd. Or, rather, the exact same crowd 30-40 years later with a whole lot more disposable income than they had in college.
  3. Well, apparently it is legal, because that appears to be exactly what this job is handling. But my understanding was that the university/A.D./sports program could have no direct involvement with NIL. Also, my understanding was that NIL could not be used to entice recruits, and this job involves "manag[ing] all aspects of NIL at Cal, including advising and consulting with student-athletes, meeting with recruits..." I'm fairly certain that my understanding was correct when NIL was first allowed, but it seems any enforceable rules pertaining to NIL have gone out the window.
  4. I would think someone in the AD who could advise student-athletes, businesses, and collectives, to make sure they are NCAA-compliant would be fine. I do not understand how this can be legal.
  5. This is currently pinned to the top of the Eagles' Nest: If I understand it correctly, I don't think we're allowed to discuss politics anymore. Of course, it is debatable whether or not certain discussions have veered into politics.

  7. I suppose that depends on what Power 5 school you go to. I don't know how likely any of those schools you mentioned are to make the NCAAs--not very, I would think. Do you know which P5 schools were after Gamble?
  8. What, specifically, is not true?
  9. Jazz studies.
  10. I'm pretty sure we're a long way from AAU status. A&M is a relative newcomer to AAU, and very few would have dreamed they'd find their way in back in the '80's or early '90's. They might still be a borderline institution, not sure. But they are light years ahead of us. Keep in mind that a major part of why Nebraska was kicked out is because they didn't have an on-campus medical school--they have one as a separate campus. Even if we ever checked all the boxes, we'd still need an invitation.

  12. Yes, I am aware of all that, and remember when they were very good back in the 80's or so. But, as you said, they haven't been very great lately, and had pretty much fallen off the radar until a long-past-his-prime Pitino went there.
  13. On the face of it, St. John's doesn't sound very impressive. Nothing like Rubbin going to Michigan. I looked it up, St. John's actually averaged over 10k a game last season. Many voices have been telling us over the years that we need to pick up our attendance if we want to be able to get to the next level. I don't doubt that at least played some part in losing Aaron to St. John's.
  14. New Mexico should have to pay royalties to North Texas for calling their arena "The Pit."
  15. I already know about him. Deion was on him all year for his lack of work ethic. EDIT: https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/from-colorado-to-transfer-portal-is-there-a-path-of-redemption-for-cormani-mcclain/
  16. I think it's pretty clear that Deion wants a revolving door of players every year. And his best players are staying, and at least some of those who entered the portal were encouraged to do so.
  17. You mean Louisiana Tech.
  18. Bigger than the Redbud Festival? Bigger than the Storytelling Festival? When did Denton start this?
  19. This matter has been cleared up, if you read the posts that came in the days after I posted this. The reason it would have been humiliating is if Taylor chose UCA over UNT because he saw it as a better opportunity. If UCA is not exactly a powerhouse, that would make UNT something even worse. And again, if you read the insider's post above, Taylor's release had nothing to do with an inability to play here. There's a good chance would have started here from day one.
  20. Thank you. I hate to lose him--he is a far cry from a "developmental high school recruit"--but I understand things a whole lot better now.
