  1. "Penciled in," or carved in stone? "Penciled in" would mean Stone would at least have a shot to win the starting job. And what lie, specifically, was told to Stone, and who told it to him?
  2. Some update. There's Mason watching some other guy I care nothing about throwing the ball.
  3. ". . . Playing the game for the money and fame and glory of me, me, me."
  4. That would be preferable. But Twitter is the public forum of our day, and he is speaking the kind of language that Twitter demands. That "#P4math" alone will probably get more attention and likes than any long, reasoned argument he might set forth.
  5. It seems the solution was the "alternate plan" that the P4s rejected. It seems we've been wanting an AD who would stand up for us rather than bending over and grabbing his ankles for the powers that be. He may not have the power to override the P4's decisions, but at least he's standing up and calling out their garbage.
  6. It could be a million things. He may not have gelled with the system they were running. He may not have liked being so far from home. Troy may have had a stud at the position that was going to keep Burns from starting. As long as we're not talking about serious legal or character issues, I'm fine with it if he can improve our quality at the position.
  7. If you mean the end of NIL, one can only hope. If you mean the end of college football . . . I wouldn't rule it out completely. You would have to think that this and other developments would lead to much tighter regulations of NIL and financial incentives for athletes to attend an institution.

  9. We've been playing football longer than Texas Tech, and we are historically larger. It is sad that they are seen as impossibly superior to us.
  10. Our last recruit out of Nederland that I can remember is Micah Mosely.
  11. When Mizzou was first indicating they were leaving the B12, it was under the belief that they would get a Big 10 invite along with Nebraska. The Big 10 told them no. It's been a few years, but I imagine Mizzou still feels a little jilted about that situation. And I don't know that enough has changed for the Big 10 to consider Mizzou now when they told them no previously.

  13. When it's a bona fide scholarship offer, that's what UNT does. Actually, I'm pretty sure they put the entire post together. When it's for a walk-on, the kids usually put their own graphics together.
  14. First college football game I ever attended? That would be John Hufnagel. The QB at my first UNT game (about 22 years later) was Mitch Maher.
  15. I mean . . . no one ever saw it turning out this way. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/urban-meyer-believes-nil-in-college-football-has-evolved-into-cheating-thats-not-what-the-intent-is/
  16. Just watched it, and I have to say it was a very good interview. I may not have liked everything he had to say, but he was frank and insightful. It's just the current reality.
  17. It seems trivial, but I never liked the way he consistently refers to NT and our conference as "G5," even if it's true. I don't recall Coach Littrell ever using that term to refer to us.
  18. How's that analogy hold up? In the current setup, we still get to play P4 teams. At least for now, the ones we have scheduled are all home-and-homes. Do you have a comparable association with ex-Mrs. Brady?
  19. There's already a thread on this, in the proper forum:
  20. There are different levels of "ignoring." Relative to UT and A&M, the networks largely ignore Tech and Baylor. The football world is far more aware of us now than they were when we were 1-AA. When we hung with Georgia for a half, the college football world paid attention. When we spanked Arkansas in a game that featured (one of?) the greatest special teams plays of all time, the college football world paid attention. If we become part of the "new FCS," the media and average football fan will pay us less attention than ever. I know the current NIL and transfer portal situation works against G5 schools, but I don't think running away from P4 schools is the answer. And I could be mistaken, but I don't think the current scenario is sustainable for college football generally speaking in the long term. I hope a solution can be found that can bring some semblance of amateurism back to college football. And maybe it can bring a little parity between FBS schools along with it.
  21. Yes, there's a huge gulf between the SEC/Big 10 and the Big XII/ACC. But there's an even huger gulf between the Big XII/ACC and G5. Four conferences get a seat at the table, and teams in those 4 conferences average about 10 times the TV revenue that G5 teams get. If TV revenues continue to diminish enough in the future, that could change.
  22. That's the thing . . . the money is not there for most G5's, so they will be more willing to play bodybag games. And P4 teams will have zero incentive to schedule home-and-home series with G5 teams. So the P4 teams will use increasingly weaker G5 teams to have 8-home game schedules and an easy path to bowl eligibility. So I don't ever see "P4" and "G5" ever completely breaking off from each other. P4 needs G5 to avoid "destroying each other." But I do see it being more difficult than ever for G5 teams to compete with P4 teams.
