  1. While responding to a negative post regarding integrity I dumped some thoughts that I believe are important enough to create its own topic. IMHO UNT has way too much momentum to get caught focusing too much on recent coaching issues in the news. That news has all but drained hope for any school to succeed without risk of their entire sr. executive staff (coaches) getting hired away....regardless of contracts. The post below was in response to the following quote. May I challenge your statement by suggesting that UNT just hired several remaining pieces of loyalty (staff)? I can promise that TD and his staff are not looking for their next jobs. If you guys think for a minute that what he and his staff are doing is a dog and pony show waiting for Coach Brown to resign from Texas then you are doing UNT a great disservice. I beg you to wake up the troops as realize that you have a staff with a vision (with the integrity and competency to attain that vision) to make UNT into a national powerhouse. Should UNT begin plans to bump up his salary along the way, you bet. Do I think TD & staff would expect or demand it, no? Still, there is nothing wrong with adjusting someone’s salary above his contract if he proves he is worth more. That’s what smart businesses do to retain top talent. You have to learn to compete with the market. Will TD be trying to renegotiate his contract if he is successful in year one or two? No. Should UNT consider renegotiating his contract if he is successful? If the market suggests they should they would be crazy not to. Market value should always be at the forefront of executive compensation. Fans and alumni can contribute a lot to adding value to a job. TD could have left SLC any year he wanted to for more money. Where else would he rather coach? Do your part to make UNT a place no coach would want to leave. You did not hire the Wizard of Oz who will take you on a dream ride only to wake up and realize you are sill in Kansas (little old UNT). Wake up Dorothy, this is not a dream. It’s the perfect storm. Take up your position and jump on board. You will not be humiliated and disappointed like Rice. Mark my post, UNT has no idea who they hired and if the alumni, student and fans do their part, UNT will be in a major conference within a few short years and become a major powerhouse in D-I sports. Everyone has an important part to play and this coach appreciates every single contribution down to the last fan. Enjoy the ride. Cheers for UNT with this hire! New Fan
  2. Don't thank me. Thank your AD and whoever else had the insight to make the decision to bring in TD. If/when TD ever does leave UNT he will leave it like SLC, better than he found it. That’s who he is and that’s what he does. May I suggest that he will also leave with his integrity in tact and a parade of cheers from the fans, players, and alumni? TD knows that integrity may fall short but it will never fail a coach or those who believe in him. Believe.
  3. Re-posted......see new topic - Wake Up Dorothy (UNT) The response deserved its own topic.
  4. TastyGreek - Your perspective on JP is impressive. Talent wins some games but talent with character wins Championships. I've watched this guy for a while now and JP is a winner in life and on the field. Your gonna love this guy.
  5. rcd12 My bad. My comments were not intended to blow yours out of proportion. You had a very good point with the walk-on suggestion. What I should have said is that TD honors the worst player on the roster as much as he does the superstars. He honors the scout team as much as the first team. I know one talented player considering moving to Denton to walk-on and play for TD and crew. Finding ways to make it even more rewarding for walk-ons could be huge. One point that I was makeing was the TD typically thinks about everyting days and weeks in advance. He's human, but seldom will you find that he failed to think about something, even walk-ons.
  6. Dodge and his staff are attracting some key walk-ons already. I know of one DB who is considering transfering from another state just to walk on. You have no idea who your AD hired. Just sit back and relax and think of more ways you can enjoy being a fan. You no longer have to second guess every decision any longer. It's hard but you will learn that its much more fun.
  7. Billboards leading the San Antonio southbound were from fans and for the players/coaches/team. Billboard returning northbound was by fans to honor Coach Dodge. You guys just picked up a coach who is a total class act. Help him add to the tradition at UNT, then be prepared to protect it. TD truly honors, loves, and respects the fans as a key part of the team. With the number or students and alumni in this immediate area you should be selling out the existing stadium in advance. TD's family is loved in SL for their love, integrity and character as much as the win/loss record. It's rare and refreshing when you have a chance to have both.
  8. You guys have no idea who you just put at the healm, and who he will put as assistants. The best thing about TD is that you don't have to second guess anymore. Just sit back and let he and his team go to work. You don't have to coach anymore. Learn to sit back and focus on ways that you can enjoy the game better. Worry about tailgating, etc. Its much funner when you don't have to coach from the stands. TD has played four 16 game seasons in a row. Every time you play one game you watch tapes of several in preparation. believe me, he knows where the talent is. Also, he knows there are many 2 stars who can run circles around 4 stars and he knows how to get the best out of his players, scout team thru starters. Go practice how to yell, shout, smile, and have some fun.
  9. Emmitt01 - Thanks for coming out to support TD and the Dragons. You are very observant and understand more than most. Rally the troops and get ready to build a new stadium, your going to need it. Until then, maybe NTU should get a vision to rent Dragon…… I mean Texas Stadium on Saturdays. It will be available for good in fall 2009. You have to understand that almost every fan that is not in a Carroll jersey is there to see the Dragons get beat. Some opposing fans (including those who aren't even form the opposing team) choose to take advantage of the public venues like Dragon…...I gotta stop that…..Texas Stadium to sit in the sea of green, only to cheer for the Dragon's defeat. I hope you guys don't have to wait long to experience that up north. Just remember the sideways look (or worse).......you will need it some day. I can promise that every Dragon fan that I know (and that's many) are excited about TD going to NTU. TD coaches "family" and fans are a part of that family (that's not just coaching BS). True families celebrate promotions. Are we sad he will not be on our sidelines, yes? Are we happy his family will be with us all week and in the stands on Fridays, yes? We give up a coach we new was eventually leaving but get to keep an awesome family who are now free to just chill and be friends (except while winning at NTU). Few ever get that opportunity in the coaching profession. Trust me, there will be many in SL making their way north on Saturdays. Our circle of fans openly discussed season tickets just today. By the way, that circle included at least four different skin colors. I could take you to any place in SL right now without concern about sideways looks for being black. SL is not what it appears. My family looks forward to joining you guys whenever we can on Saturdays. Just look for the new older fans in green (many toting radical kids) acting like they are still in college. We are related so no sideways looks please…..promise?
