  1. You got any ideas on how to make that happen? Especially when there isnt one other Texas school that wants to be in a conference with us. How do you do it, DD?
  2. What will be really funny is when we tell SMU and TCU that we already have our Metroplex rivalry with UTA scheduled every year and this is between two teams that actually are vying for an NCAA Tournament berth. I doubt any SMU fan of the last 20 years even knows about that little postseason tournament. And, TCU really should be better than they are as a program with the league they play in and their location, so I don't really see any agvantage for us to help them out!! How is that for turning the tables on these two?!!
  3. With the Belo Corp owning both the DMN and the DRC, they let all UNT coverage come from the local source, which makes sense. What doesn't make sense at all is that the DMN doesn't have any coverage of UNT other than a bit piece from Vito every once in a while. In reality, most of alumni live in the Metroplex somewhere. The DMN at least can use the DRC as an excuse--what does the Star-Telegram have as an excuse? Or how about all of the Tv stations and their sports departments? The issue here is that the DFW Media all think this way--if you weren't from the SWC, you just don't matter. Even then, the only teams that really get attention are the Big XII South schools.
  4. I hate this line of thinking. College basketball barely registered on the sports map back in the 70s until Magic and Bird played each other. Even then, it wasn't a stop down for most sports fans. But then the NCAA Tournament and the Final Four really hit their groove in the early 80s and has grown exponentially since then. Unlike college football, which has been popular for decades, but has really hurt itself in public perception with the BCS BS, the NCAA Basketball Tournament affords schools like ours to not only particpate, but to truly have the chance to make a big run all the way to a championship. If we were smart with our athletic resources, we would focus on both of these sports at a high level. And for the sake of taking up for basketball, we actually can have a competitive advantage over other schools because we are in Texas and we could put a premium on hoops, which would really separate us from every other school in the state. We may be in Texas, but Houston and UTEP are MUCH more recognized for their basketball successes than football, and neither of those occurred in the last two decades. I guarantee that if we go back to the NCAAs and win a game or two, it would amazing how much attention we would get in Texas for doing something only the Big XII Texas schools have done in the last 15 years. And that attention wouldn't hurt the football program, but it would probably do wonders for recruiting and added support.
  5. Wardly, I want to say two things. First off, thank you for being a great fan of UNT and for your support. I have both agreed and disagreed (probably too strongly) with you on several of your thoughts over time here at GMG.com, but this post is your best ever. I feel like Leavitt will be a fine coach and I wouldn't mind seeing him hired here. But to think he is just purely innocent in all of this just seems naive. Not saying he is purely guilty either, so don't get mad FFR!! But to have some guy come over and shamelessly promote Leavitt as the best hire for our opening and then demean other posters is what bothers most of us. And, I will say this, to add to your point wardly, if the university decides not to stir up this mess with Leavitt because of his lawsuit, I am just fine with that.
  6. I actually agree on this. If we beat ULM and K-State, he will have gone 4-1 in his time, with the one loss being a close game to Troy, who, talent-wise, is the best of the SBC and has been for a long time. If we were to beat Kansas State, who will be playing in a bowl game and will most likely be 7-4 coming into our game and ranked, would be as big as any we have had at this school in 30 years. Coaching this group up, after all of the injuries, and closing out the glorious day of playing our last game in a toilet by beating a ranked Big XII team would almost automatically put him in as HFC next year. That said, I still believe that we will lose to K-State and that even with a win over ULM, he will not be the choice for our next head coach. I still see the strong possibility that Leavitt will be get the HFC position and that Chico will be his Assistant Head Coach with a BIG RAISE. Maybe I am wrong, but I think that its a very strong possibility.
  7. You would be an awesome Tech fan--probably alum of the year. I could even see you yelling out GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO RRRAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDEEEEEEERRRRRRRRSSSSSSS!!
  8. The other thing that stood out to me that we were able to survive was the two posessions under a minute to go where Johnson tried to score to give us the lead and failed miserably. We were very fortunate that Singletary missed that last free throw to give Josh the ball in his hands to drive and score the tying bucket before OT. Either Josh or Tristan needs to be shooting the ball in those situations, IMO.
  9. I think that is exactly the problem that we have to deal with TCU and SMU. When they see a name school come to town in either big sport and we draw well and play well, it gives both schools even more fodder to keep us miles away from their conferences. Hell, you could probably add UH, Rice, Tulsa, La Tech, UTEP, etc. to that list, too, as folks that would just be happy with keeping little 'ol UNT little.
  10. I don't think anyone should sweat Tech fans coming up with excuses about their loss tonight. Its what they do best--lose and make excuses. I have heard it since 1988 when we beat them in Lubbock in football and in 1991 when we beat them in Lubbock in hoops. Ask any Aggie or Longhorn about their interactions with Tech fans. Hell, ask anyone in the Big XII, where they were voted the worst fans in the conference by opposing players last year in a football pre-season poll. They recieved 36% of the vote, while Colorado was second--at 18%. Tech fans were voted as the worst by DOUBLE the next team, which happens to be leaving the conference next year. I am sure that most of that 18% will get thrown to Lubbock, as well, so they easily could have 50% of all votes as being the worst fanbase in the Big XII. But, hey, GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIDDDDDDDDDEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. I completely agree on that last part about White's second three in OT. That was the loudest I have ever heard the Pit in almost 20 years of watching games there. That was just awesome. It got so loud that it scared my kids!!
  12. The same thing happened last year when we beat UTA in Double OT in Arlington. No one even gave the score of that game on the 10pm news. I know that UTA isn't the biggest name around, but they have a lot of alumni, just like we do in the DFW area. This is what makes it tough on the fans of the program. The majority of the media in DFW just won't give us much attention. I know its a pro sports market and a Big XII market, but I believe Tech is still in the Big XII and I highly doubt SMU-TCU drew even close to 4000 they show in the box score, yet they get the attention tonight. Its just the way it is. We can keep winning, but it will take some monumental success for UNT to get the coverage that it deserves. And, by the way, doing an email campaign just gets you sarcastic coverage. In other words, you can send these emails and then Newy Scruggs or Dale Hansen will say something along the lines of, "Well, I just got tons of emails from UNT people expressing their displeasure with the lack of coverage. Well, here you go. UNT loses to KU by 20 tonight. There you go." It always goes this way. What really makes tonight's game so special for me was that this was the best game I have ever been to at the Super Pit and I have been going to games since my freshman year in 1991-1992. I took my two boys, 5 and 2, and all three of us were in Mean Green Gear cheering on the home team. What a great experience and one that I won't ever forget--nor will my oldest son, who said after the game, "Dad, thanks for taking me to the game tonight. I am so happy the Mean Green won!!" It wasn't his first game by any stretch, but it was his first game to cheer loud because he understood what was going on when each team had possession of the ball. So screw the local media--this game may have deserved more attention, but it will be talked about on this forum and in our home for years to come!! GMG!!
  13. You can troll better than this, shaft.
  14. No doubt--its very similar to the rarity of reading DaddyDumpsalot providing thoughts on UNT being in the SBC.
  15. This will sound funny, but I knew that she had zero chance of succeeding here when we lost a game last year (even if it didn't really count) to freaking TWU. I mean, really, even if its a scrimmage, shouldn't we have about 10x the talent that TWU will ever have, both in players and coaches? It reminded me of when Trilli's teams had to fight real hard to beat Division II schools when he was here.
  16. Math is hard?
  17. He has literally no chance at UNT of becoming our HFC.
  18. Texas isn't really all that down in basketball, though.
  19. Wardly gives you a thumbs up for only considering name coaches who have won NCs and never been fired to come to UNT and the SBC!!! You never know until you ask...
  20. Mack Brown or June Jones?
  21. Most of us are pretty much used to stuff like this by now. Its why a lot of people fret about the two newest WAC schools in Texas doing the same thing over the course of the next decade. Hopefully not, but we know our history.
  22. Do you think this because of his campaigning and our history of poor hiring or is there more to the story? I ask because I totally agree with your sentiment for the simple fact that Chico will be cheaper than hiring anyone else. BTW, I want Fran, Kragthorpe, or Leavitt. If all three of these names say no way, then and only then does Chico make sense as the choice.
  23. Yeah, I have issues. The first one is that I don't like reading or listening to condescending idiots tell me how much better my _______ will be if I just do what they tell me. The second one is that I hate the University of Missouri. That about covers it for this thread.
