  1. Well, you and your gang have the opportunity to prove it...but the current AD better not be the one who gets to pick any other coach going forward or else we are setting ourselves up for continued suckitude...
  2. This may be the sorriest post I've ever read on this forum--and that's saying A LOT.
  3. This thread is just full of lots of love... And, btw, if Ryan and Ben Gooding fight, there aren't any winners in that ring... Sorry, Harry, for the history lessons--but I guess I am just tired of watching people waster their time and money on something that was supposed to be much better once we: A.) Hired a real, experienced coach B.) Had a brand new football stadium C.) Got out of the Crap Belt and had other regional teams in conference play 2013 fooled me badly--but the contract extension RV game Mac has handcuffed us for years ahead. I think someone should have to pay for that mistake that is high up in the leadership of the debacle. And Chico doesn't count... Neal Smatresk is the last hope we have. If it doesn't happen with him in charge, its not gonna happen in enough time to keep me around. I'll say this again, if Tony Benford coaches one day at this school after this upcoming season ends without a postseason berth in the NIT or the NCAAs, I'm out, regardless...
  4. I'm glad to know that the stats back up what our eyeballs are seeing--we suck so bad right now...and we haven't even played the really good teams on the schedule yet. After WKU, La Tech, Marshall, Tennessee, and MUTS get done with us, its very possible that we will be dead-ass last in almost every one of those stats, defensively
  5. Sadly, this news will probably be the highlight of most MG basketball fans for the upcoming season...Benford'd and Rv'd
  6. Benford would be an awesome replacement for Brown. They need to clean house--and send us back Jankovich
  7. 0-3, getting beat by the worst team in FBS from last year that just lost to a FCS team, then losing in a less competitive game than the score indicated against a conference opponent, and then getting crushed by a P5 team that isn't exactly a world beater makes me believe, that, yes, most facets of this team are not good--at all. You can call it trashy even!! The line has gotten pushed around, the passing game is sporadic, at best, and the defense and special teams are awful. So, yes, I think we absolutely suck right now.
  8. This would be so North Texas, it isn't even funny...yet I'm laughing as I post this--how ironic!!
  9. The absolute worst spot for UNT to get in is your scenario listed above. You cannot let a coach in any sport coach in the last year of a contract. If you think recruiting has been bad so far, not even unrated players would want to consider coming here, not knowing if the coaching staff will even be there at the end of the season. That's why you have to extend or cut bait before the last year of the contract. If we get to 2017 and have another winning season, one that is 7 wins as you mentioned above, I'm almost certain that he will get an RV extension of at least 2+ years. RV is dying to give those out to Mac or Benford or any other revenue hire--it is now known that he has a contract that the BOR allows him to get his own extensions when he gives one out that gets BOR approval. If you think things are pathetic now, imagine that scenario playing out--Mac getting another extension because he cleared that incredibly high hurdle of finishing above .500 in a season again...
  10. It was worse when we hired a high school coach the first time in 1991 to take over a I-aa team that was so poor, it wasn't even funny. A crowd at Fouts that topped 10k was considered just amazing during those Parker years. We just didn't have anyone who cared back then. I've stated before, but I've seen our low point in person, on the sidelines, watching us play in front of about 150 people in the second half of a blowout win over Nicholls State in a mid-November home game at night that got us to 3 wins in 1992. We are mad right now because we have an awesome stadium, better facilities than we have ever had, and the best conference we have ever been a part of in 40+ years. And we are just as bad right now as we have been for most of the seasons since we moved back up in 1995. But the fans don't make any difference here--the only thing that does is the view of athletics at the administrative level--unless the BOR and the chancellor care enough to give the president the ability to clean house, its all a moot point. And that's assuming the president really does care about this, beyond lip service, which none of us knows for sure.
  11. Exactly--and I hate it when I hear that "this is Texas, football matters more here than basketball does"... Benford and Dodge are both prime examples of how we don't care about winning, just known costs.
  12. USM--40+, at least one TD from a turnover UNT--less than 20, with one TD scored late in the game. UNT AD, BOR, and HFC--we are doing fine, staying within budget, providing a great value, helping to create great fathers and husbands UNT 15 BMDs--loving this time with RV and hearing his awesome jokes and stories, as well as his "vision"--BOR are fun, too. Rest of the remaining UNT faithful--this is one more game closer to me just walking away, realizing I wasted months, years, decades of my life on this charade. Other 98% of UNT alumni, students, faculty, and citizens of Denton County--why would I follow that team? My t-shirt is burnt orange, maroon, crimson, black, purple, etc...
  13. And they fired their coach after 0-12--his first and only year. Ours is in Year 5--and is basically guaranteed to be here to coach in Year 7 because he costs too much to replace. Why anyone would give a penny to this AD if no top personnel aren't fired after this debacle is beyond me--note that top personnel is not Chico or assistant coaches, nor does it include assistant ADs.
  14. Not. A. Prayer. Of. This. Happening.
  15. Because we don't care about winning--that's why its not North Texas... I really wonder why we even field a team if your mindset isn't about winning and all about cost.
  16. You're just now starting to think this? I do have many screws loose, but this was as obvious as could be to me, since McNulty started the last half of last season. I've said all along that IF D.Smith got to play as the starter, it won't be until the Portland State game at the earliest, if then. That's exactly how it has played out. I didn't see the ridiculous of putting Smith--hell anyone--behind Greer on the depth chart, but it doesn't surprise me at all. 9 games in 2015, all of 2016, and all of 2017 still to go...
  17. Back in 2012, Southern Miss hired a coach, named Ellis Johnson, who promptly led their team to an 0-12, after they signed him to a 4-year $2.8 million contract. Their response was to fire him, as deserved, and pay out the $2.1 million he was owed. In 2015, it is highly possible that our coach, in his 5th year, will go 0-12 or 1-11. He will have three years left on his contract after this season, which is worth about $2.1 million dollars. Guess what direction we will go...
  18. At this point, all of them appear to be surprising... But the clear answer is that Ball State win in 2013. They were a very good G5 team. We physically dominated them in the second half that day--ironically, it was in front of about 10k people, too, because of the heat and the fact that more people wanted to watch Johnny Manziel face Alabama on TV than venture out to Apogee.
  19. McNulty sucks, no doubt, but no QB running this offense, with the current OL in place and the small defensive front seven we have, is gonna change our 2015 fortunes. I saw 3-4 wins at the beginning of the year because McNulty as QB + the other variables only equaled potential wins against SMU, USM, PSU, UTSA and UTEP, with the caveat that if we couldn't beat SMU, there wasn't another FBS team we could beat, leaving Portland State as our only win. I'm sticking to that--we will finish 1-11. And the QB, a this point, because of the scheme and the lack of development on the OL, as well as a very small and subpar defense, will not be able to change this. But that said, I'd let D. Smith play or Means just to get ready for 2016. Unfortunately, I believe D. Smith won't get that chance, so our starting QB candidates for 2016 will be between Greer and Means, since both are QBs that are busdrivers. I just pray that we can get 3 or more wins next year. We will be breaking in a new QB. The OL will hopefully get better, so our running game will get stronger. And our defense should get stronger, too. The 2015 recruiting class should have a little more impact, since it was rated higher than any of the previous classes under Mac by quite a bit. We get SMU and Liberty at home, while playing at Army and Florida. I think we will only beat Liberty on that list, but hopefully we can get 2 or more wins in CUSA play next season. It is just amazing that we would be talking about this type of "progress" in a coach's 5th and 6th seasons at one school-and even more amazing that most of know he will probably get a 7th season without any improvement at all.
  20. Not in Denton, it doesn't--see the Super Pit for proof...
  21. I still think Smatresk can only act if he can raise/receive $4-5 million from the alums/BOR. Its gonna take that much to reset this whole thing within the athletic department. If by some miraculous chance this came to occur, RV should be gone tomorrow. The new AD can then determine what he wants to with McCarney and can be around to replace Benford. I call this a miraculous scenario because I just don't believe that the BOR is going to let Smatresk do any of this, except for Benford, who will still get replaced by RV, who will then get yet another extension... The good news here--and it is good news for all of us that still follow this $hitstorm for some masochistic reason--is that the BOR will basically tell us by their actions and their inactions if anything here is going to change at the top of the AD. Its the same ol', same ol' if RV gets to stay. Its the same ol', same ol' if Mac can win 2 games or less in Year 5 and not even receive so much as a warning about turning things around in 2016. If either of these come to play here, I cannot even understand how any of us could give one more penny to this place for athletics. You can help fund scholarships for the general student body or the specific colleges within the university instead. If the university's leadership and administration don't care to fund a winning program, its just a waste of our time and money to continue believing something different is possible anytime soon. I'd rather them just quit the charade and drop the sports than to give lip service to something that draws less than 2k for a home game in a 10,000 seat arena and under 5k for late season games in a 30,000 seat stadium.
  22. My God, why do we have to suck at the two sports that I care anything about?? College hoops is supposed to be the one sport that a school like ours should be able to compete in fairly routinely. My UNT fandom has nothing but a few embers still burning--its almost completely gone.
  23. These are our three reasons for optimism: 1.) None 2.) Nada 3.)Nothing
  24. Apparently, you aren't alone in your thinking because the other 98% of UNT students and alumni look at UNT athletics like what you are saying...I guess my point is that if you are going to field a team, you should attempt to actually win at it beyond lip service. Otherwise, you'd be better off just dropping the sport if you don't care about it and just complain about how much funding it takes away from other aspects of the school. Look, I want UNT to win at everything they compete in, especially against schools where we have friends and family who attended. But the embarrassment of UNT Football, to be specific, really makes me wonder why the university would accept this failure for so long...would they accept this in other areas of the university?
