  1. That would cost money, UNT90...we just can't (won't) do that here. Otherwise, the UNT17 will walk away and we will lose money on this program instead of staying in budget.../BOR member
  2. All at the same time with a QB that couldn't play one down at another FBS university in America, as well...thank God he passes those Chico tests with flying colors and just tears it up against the scout team in practice.
  3. 2.5 years to go, folks...let it sink in. Those 2017 crowds are going to be horrendous...but, hey, we will have saved $650k by waiting!! Just like we did with Todd Dodge and Tony Benford!! We are going to win the BEst Value National Championship again, no doubt!!! Suck on it, Ohio State!!
  4. Woody Hayes, Bear Bryant, Bo Schembechler, Bud Wilkinson, Frank Broyles, and Darrell Royal all agree with you, Mac. By 1975, you're gonna really have a great QB!!
  5. A few of us tried to tell everyone that Damarcus Smith wasn't going to get to play ahead of McNulty this year, barring injury. McNulty is Mac's boy and Damarcus Smith missing Spring Ball was the final nail in the coffin for Old School McCarney. There won't be 500 people at Apogee for that last game in 2017 when he finishes out his run here as head coach. Just pathetic...
  6. After reading that compilation of rankings, every other FBS university in the country would be so embarrassed by this that changes would have already happened (i.e., coordinators demoted or fired, personnel on the field would've changed). But here, we keep a senior QB that couldn't play anywhere else as the starter of an 0-4 team, even as we prepare to host a FCS team, coached by the same OC and head coach he has had for his entirety at the school. It might be time to seriously consider if the university has what it takes to keep fielding an FBS team if nothing is going to change here at some point in the next few months.
  7. EVERYONE is more proactive than UNT when it comes to athletics...
  8. I bet Rob Evans will be the interim coach of this thing sometime after the calendar hits 2016...probably when that elusive, contract-extension earning prize of .500 is officially unattainable. Rob Evans will use that time as his "interview". I don't doubt for a minute that RV would hire him as Benford's replacement if it comes down to it.
  9. Cristobal would be a great choice for whoever hires him. He basically brought FIU from the ground to a bowl champion in like three years. He even turned down the Pitt job to saty at FIU because he thought he was building something. Then they get a new AD and the football team graduates TY Hilton and others and dropped back to 3-9, at which point he got fired. They haven't been any good since. But he would be a better selection for a school in the Southeast, an SBC or CUSA team.
  10. Just one minor correction, but it does make a difference--they lost to North Dakota, not NDSU...if they had only lost to them by a FG, they'd beat us by three TDs. Its a special place...like Florida...nothing like Ames, Iowa or Denton, Texas before I got there...I mean, before Coach Mac got there
  11. I am jealous of RV--getting that high of salary to accomplish so amazingly little...where can I get a gig like that?
  12. I'll go with Portland State 33 UNT 31 Butts-in-seats: 8500 Announced Attendance: 17000+
  13. FIFY--its not a question, its a truth. After reading FFR's post--which was dead-on btw, it almost makes you wonder why we even try to have a football program. If so many people loathe it or just won't even try to support it, both inside and outside the university, how are you ever going to fix that enough to make football become a sustainable winner that can garner even decent support financially and thru attendance? It almost seems impossible at this point...
  14. At this point, the Texas HS coaches, parents, and recruits are going to have to see us turn into a real winner before they will even give us the benefit of the doubt. 2014 Recruiting Class proved that--we finished dead-ass last, even after winning the HoD Bowl in our back yard. It was as if very few even cared--basically the shrugged their shoulders at us and gave us a great big "Meh" for winning 9 games. That's what 35+ years of suckitude and a drop down to I-aa for 12 years will do to you. We lost generations of potential fans, both from our students and alumni to the citizens of the Metroplex. That's all these coaches and parents have seen or heard about us--we are poor, we play nobody they care about, and we have no interest in winning. Sadly, very sadly, that is all true, based on the results of the last 35 years. Until we prove people differently and it becomes sustaining--funding a winning program, seeing it win against teams that people have actually heard of and care about, ad firing people who don't get it done--this is just how its gonna be. You either accept it or you walk away...that's the way the leadership looks at athletics. And its why 2% of the UNT Family pays attention to our teams, while the other 98% either ignore it completely, openly deride the fact we play these sports because they cost so much, or the futility just finally caused them to give up and go away to follow another school's teams as t-shirt fans.
  15. I wanted Franchione or Kragthorpe...but I was fine with McCarney, too--if only because he wasn't a high school coach or some unknown assistant. And now, we pray: Why, dear Lord, do you continue to smite us, the UNT Sports Fan? We on gmg.com are but a small and loving bunch, having never turned our back on our beloved Mean Green, even in times of desperation and wandering (IOW, forever...) Oh, sweet and merciful, Lord Jesus, please give us the wherewithal to understand why we are being so punished while schools like SMU and Portland State are given so much more. We pray for forgiveness and for patience, as we are forced to sit thru McCarney-Ball for a few more years, while King RV and the UNT 17 rules over the land with a basket full of treasures to keep the ruler as AD. Oh woe is thee--we beg of forgiveness and mercy, oh sweet and mighty Lord!! May we ask that you help aid us in defeat of the Mighty Portland State Vikings as they invade Denton with all 75 people that they will bring here, including their team and coaching staff. For, at this time of great sorrow, with this as our only OOC game at our temple of worship known as Apogee, faced with the overwhelming reality that Portland State stands as Goliath to our program right now, that you somehow give our young leader, Andrew McNulty, the ability to throw one stone (out 15) that might actually hit his target and will knock down the giant Vikings of the Pacific Northwest. If for just once, Mighty Lord, if you could give us the opportunity to defeat this enemy, on our home field, in front of 8000 of our fans, we would be forever grateful to your blessing. In your Most Holy Name, we pray...Amen
  16. Again, there is a reason that Damarcus Smith ended up here, just as there was when Berglund got here. I'm sure they were just awesome as seniors in high school, but when you cannot get your act together academically or socially, you fall down the totem pole very quickly. You end up in jucos, trying to resuscitate your career. When you choose to come here, as a QB, its because you love the offense (?), you were sold something by Chico and the Gang, or you had no other options. Look, it sucks to have this issue. The offense is terrible and boring. Unless you have a great OL and a steady busdriver at QB to hand off and throw about half a dozen times downfield to our actual receivers, not the other team, this thing isn't going to have a prayer of having a winning season ever. We had that in 2013, nothing close before or since...
  17. He won't. Too many $$$ to resign. Same with Mac, just as it was with Bumford... For anything to get fixed here, its gonna require the university to pony up the cash--from whatever sources they can. Its just my belief that its not going to happen. I truly think that RV is the #UNTADforlife until proven otherwise. And I believe completely in the fact that the university will not buy out more than a year of a large contract, as seen with Trilli, Dodge, and Benford. Mac's contract is the largest that the university has ever given out. They ain't buying it out after this year, even if we are 0-12. Maybe next year, if we win less than 2 games, but then again, Todd Dodge won 2 games in his third year of a 5 year contract, and he still got a 4th year because we wouldn't pay to buy out an extra $275k. Same with Bumford's contract--complete disaster, yet we won't buy out an extra $325k any earlier than we feasible deem it "affordable" to do say. Mac makes $650k per year--ain't no way we are dumping him after this year for sure--and very recent history suggest we won't after 2016, either. I'm afraid that we have 2 and a half more years to fully enjoy the explosive offensive gameplan of Dan McCarney...at this point, recruits at anything above 2A aren't going to even give us the time of day if they play offense at their high school.
  18. I think the better question is what will you do if Mac isn't fired after this year? What about if not after 2016? And the same for RV? will you stick to fully supporting as you have? will you lower the donation? will you stop buying season tickets? will you stop going to games? will you walk away for good, never to come back like the super majority has done here forever?
  19. even if we win this next game, 11 losses will be damn near impossible to avoid...
  20. What we are seeing is just a extension of the ineptitude that the university has shown towards football since Fry left. Whether it's bad hires, terrible facilities, dropping down a level of play, or subpar recruiting, we have no idea how to fund a winning program. If you hire someone in any business, you don't make it financially impossible to let them go if needed. IOW, you sign someone to a contract that can be bought out at anytime. If someone hires an employee that is a poor performer but cannot be fired because the money isn't there, then that person should get fired. But, instead, we just let those hires flounder until they are deemed affordable to terminate. You cannot be surprised when the product sucks when that mindset exists....
  21. it's so North Texas to have 17 people hold the rest of us hostage with an AD who can't hire anyone to win here in a revenue sport and to have a BOR that thinks he deserves extensions....
  22. I said before the opener that if we couldn't beat SMU, there wasn't one FBS team we can beat. Now, a win at home against an FCS team on Homecoming looks to be a defeat. I won't be there because I won't waste my time or money on a game against a team from the FCS level, but 0-12 is staring us in the face. If we think Mac's recruiting has been bad before, imagine how it's gonna look after this.
  23. oh, I agree on the changes needed, but the commitment won't happen here until the BOR changes their view. That change could be even worse than you are wanting--that's my point. They've done it before--and it killed the program then for decades--probably the university's connection to giving alumni, too.
  24. Be careful at what you ask for--we've dropped the F down before when faced with this decision and looked at it as a great opportunity and plan. It killed the program's long term chances and still affects us badly today.
  25. you'll be gone before the AD, most likely. That's how it's run in Denton with the #UNTADforlife
