Summer Reading
AJR2010OX replied to EagleD's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Has anyone read the new biography on Andrew Jackson? I'm told its really interesting. Also, both these may be dated but "Team of Rivals" is a great but long book talking about all the powers in Lincoln's presidential cabinet. "The World is Flat" is by Thomas Friedman. It was written in 2004/2005 but is still interesting. -

Cusa Would Really Be A Step Up For Unt.......
AJR2010OX replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
at least the fraternities show up -
shes actually married.... and one of those that will still be involved with nt after graduation

there are some simple answers continue donating to north texas (and if you get a promotion, up your donation) join the exes wear unt gear. if you go to a wedding, wear a green suit. funeral, green suit. keep tabs on the orgs you were involved in (i.e. go to your fraternity events, attend an SGA meeting or two, cheer with the talons, etc) continue going to games if you know high schoolers, take them on a tour of UNT. give them the whole gist of what goes on. promote the shit out of the school. if youre concerned about athletics, go to the games. a complaint from a consistent supporter of athletics (most of you on this board who take the time and go to games) goes a lot further than a grad who just wont go to games Do not do what my dad does and call this university a bargain. When you sell Texas A&M to someone, you dont say bargain. or cheap. or inexpensive. just say GREAT EDUCATION. talk about whats going on. throw in some bull shit or two. talk about how you can be a star at north texas, rather than middle of the pack at ut/a&M/ou. talk about improvement. dont talk about the music school. sure its part of UNTs rep, but there are ten or so other colleges that are great in their own way. just a students perspective.

Lieberman Candidate...others In Consideration
AJR2010OX replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
don't care whether youre a man or woman, just win. if pat summit were to coach our men's basketball team, I wouldnt care because she's a winner. I mean, that Gino guy at UConn has done pretty well for himself in womens basketball -
Well SMU still fields a nationally ranked program. As a matter of fact, they were #1 in the nation at some point in time this season
-
only took slinker 15 years to figure out how to win. its amazing what coaches can do with their butts on the line

And Here's What Is Wrong With College Football Today
AJR2010OX replied to UNTLifer's topic in Mean Green Football
Doubtful. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the majority of Congress went to these big time schools (or Ivy League, which is rich enough where it doesnt need bowl payouts anyway) and dont care to see it changed at all. I mean this is one of the most idiot Congresses in recent memory. Do you think they would really care about the "lesser rans" (in their mind) of college football. And yes, I do know Congressman Michael Burgess went here, but hes one voice out of 535. (HOR + Senate) -

Apathy is a direct result of consistent mediocrity throughout the years. You change apathy by winning consistently. Simple as that. Doesnt matter if youre in the Sun Belt, WAC or Big 12- win and they will come. Especially in Dallas, a wine and cheese crowd city. If 40,000 people come and watch a Plano vs SLC regional final game at Texas Stadium, they will sure watch a 10-0 North Texas team who has put up 40 points a game take on Troy/FAU/whoever for the Sun Belt title. You have to build a culture of winning. Also, you need to build a culture of staying the whole game, despite the score. That builds pride.

New Stadium Talk Is A Diversion For Pitiful 2007 Record
AJR2010OX replied to DallasGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Also, you could take away UTs fball/bball program, but that doesnt mean enrollment would drop. Many students in Texas would kill for the chance to go to a school in the state capitol, one of the top business schools in the nation, a growing business area in austin, one of the only us state department accredited Middle East studies programs, etc. You could take away USCs football program, and youd still have a top private school, located in the heart of LA, with one of the best film schools and international relations departments. The environment around the college is also a huge part of why students apply, and once Denton improves and becomes appealing to students (not gonna lie Denton sucks, UNT is awesome) enrollment will grow. I didnt come to UNT for the fball/bball program. I came for academics. Respect in academics brings kids to a school. -

ou does have the most national merit scholars in the nation because of their competitive scholarship offer. they also built a $20 million journalism building in 04 I believe, which is beautiful. Rice does have their baseball team, which won a national title in 2003 I think and which also consistently goes to the College World Series. -
I dont know if the above post was sarcasm or not, but is there any alumni out there who actually BELIEVES????? Shit, you guys sound like a bunch of high school girls talking about Zac Efron's (high school musical) latest breakup and how the couple was so cute and blah blah end of the world blah blah.... If Dodge has any character, he wont go anywhere. The stadium will come. Things will improve. Stop being babies.

What are finals? I'm there. By the way, decent turnout at fox and hound tonight.

no but everyone said he was too small to be a factor in the nfl.

In this weeks Mid Major poll, UTA is ranked 19, Western Kentucky is 7, and New Orleans is 22. NT received 27 votes.

His brother plays for Harvard. Just a fun little fact. Definately a good character edition to this team. I believe they play on Saturday against skyline.

U Of Houston Considering 71 Year Old Jack Pardee
AJR2010OX replied to SUMG's topic in Mean Green Football
He did get them to No. 14 in the nation, so why not bring back a proven winner, despite his age? -
I could think of countless high schools, colleges, and even a pro team with the Eagles mascot. However I can only think of one with the name Mean Green. Also, CBS Sportsline, during March Madness, did say the North Texas MEAN GREEN was the best nickname for a college. We are North Texas, we are different, we are MEAN GREEN.
