Darn Copy Cat's!

A football coach not practicing tackling? Come on, do you really believe something that stupid! I have seen the NT defensive players hammer and knock the crap out of the opponets players, time after time. Do you believe Gary DeLoach and his defensive staff do not allow or teach tackling in paractice? What's next, the coaches do not allow pads during practice, or no hitting allowed? Geez! Where does this stuff come from?

Have We Lost All Of The Momentun Of The Dodge Hire?
Charlie NT 73 replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
Have we lost all the momentum of the Coach Todd Dodge hire? Not no, but Hell No! I agree with Euless Eagle on all of his points in his posting. Very good posting I will add! I would not trade Coach Dodge for any other coach, regardless of what the win loss record is. Kids come to a school becasue of the head coach and his staff. Coach Dodge and his staff recruit the entire state of Texas and there is not one high school football athlete or coach, that does not know who Coach Dodge is. Coach Dodge and his staff have renewed "pipelines" and re-open many closed doors to NT recruiting that is paying off now! Would you want DD out recruiting for North Texas or Coach Dodge? Coach Dodge took over a program that was going no where. Coach Dodge started recruiting, and has brought in 2 top recruiting classes, where almost all of the kids in these 2 classes are playing now. The momentum is still there, and will continue to grow. Add in the new FB stadium, and even better kids will come to North Texas. Count on that! No, the momentum is not fading. I would say the momentum is becoming brighter every day. -
At my job, I have to deal with OU, $mu, Tx Tech, and UT fans. Yes, I have heard it all this morning. It will pass. Just beleive in the Mean Green!

I too have been around a long time. I have seen the bad and the good. I am not giving up on this team, the coaches, or the players! The staff, and the players, will learn from this game. Rice is a experienced team, and played a near flawless game. Just about everything in this game was going there way. Rice got on a roll, and just kept rolling. They say football is a game of inches, and as I watched the game on TV, I could see just that. The offense and the defense were so close but yet so far. Just inches away from greatness. Some of our passes were just out of reach that could have been big plays. There were several plays that had TD writen all over the play. Dunbar and Montgomery were ever so close to breaking long runs several times. The defense was stopping the Rice run game. When Rice got into trouble, they would go to their number one receiver, going aginst our freshmen. The Rice QB must have 9 lives, because he slipped of sure sacks, and completed passes on busted plays. Who would have ever thought Fitz would muff a punt or KO? The 2 int's for TD's, one was a great play and one was a defelected pass. Geez, talk about freebies! I could go on and on, but I am not. The fact is, Rice played a great game and beat us. We may even have to take some more games like this one before our day comes around. When our day does come, this game will just be a bad memory during a tough time which will make us appreciate what it takes to develope a winning team and program.

Re-visiting Preseason Won-loss Predicitions
Charlie NT 73 replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
Stop the run, I sure hope so! UL-Lay put up 335 rushing yds on K-State. 27 first downs. Fenroy had a 69yd TD run too. -
Catch Of The Year?
Charlie NT 73 replied to Eagle1855's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Wow, what a catch is right! Reminds me of Johnny Quinn's great catch when he was on his back in the end zone. I think that game was UL-Mon at Fouts. -
Houston Chronicle - Rice Notebook
Charlie NT 73 replied to NT Drummer's topic in Mean Green Football
Rice is 2-2 right now, with wins over 2 bad teams, a 56-27 win over $mu, and a 42-35 win over Memphis. SMU put 337yds of offense on Rice, while Memphis put 523 yds on Rice. In Vandy's win over Rice, 38-21, Vandy had 273yds rushing. Memphis had 150. Texas put 600 yds on Rice, with 259yds rushing. The Rice defense is giving up big yardage to good and bad teams. Rice has not stopped any of their 4 opponents. I think the North Texas run game will take off on the Rice defense, as well as our passing game. Each Rice opponent had 250-350 yds passing. Now on the other hand, Rice has moved the ball very well, through their pass attack, with over 300 yds passing in each game. 30-FD's vs $mu, 24-FD's vs Memphis, 23-FD's vs Vandy, and 19-FD's and 300yds passing on Texas. The key to this game will be controlling the Rice pass attack between the 20's. Rice will get their yards, but, so will North Texas. First win of the season, in a big shoot out, North Texas 38, Rice 31. -
Nt Mention In New Book About Texas Stadium
Charlie NT 73 replied to Eagle-96's topic in Mean Green Football
My 3 favorite North Texas games at Texas Stadium are: 1975 North Texas 28, Houston 0. NT offense run up and down the field all game long, and the defense shut down Bill Yoeman's famous "Houston Veer" offense! On the way home after the game, I was listening to a radio sports update, and the radio announcer stated the score surely was reported wrong, and he announced that Houston had won 30 to nothing. Later the announcer had a corrected score report, and just said North Texas 30 Houston zero. 1977 North Texas 24, $mu 13. The NT defense stoped $mu's offense on several critical conversions, and the offense drove the length of the field for long time consuming drives. 1978 North Texas 12, Okie State 7. Big defensive battle right to the end of the game. If I remember correctly, NT scored 2 TD's but missed both extra points. Ok State was driving the length of the field with just a minute or two left, but the NT defense stopped them cold. The offense ran out the time remaining to seal the win. -
With this coming game with Rice on Saturday, 1/3 of our season is already done. Wow time flys by fast! Even with the bad games against K-State, Tulsa, and LSU, I beleive the team has progressed, and is ready to make a stand. This team needs some success to build on. Rice on Saturday, followed by FIU, UL-Laf and UL-Mon gives North Texas 4 games which honestly, are better suited for success. Win these 4 games and NT will be 4-3. Best of all, NT will be in the race for the SBC Championship. The final 5 games, with Troy, WKU, FAU, MTSU, and Ark State could create a very interesting puzzle to determine who wins the SBC crown, and the New Orleans bowl bid. The season is not lost at all. The season may just be begining!

I fixed the links to the Miami Herald so these 2 links work now. For the new FIU board, you have to go through their old site, follow directions that hook up to thier new FIU fan site.

I was looking ahead to FIU, so I went to their board for a quick view. FIU opened the doors on their new stadium project with their South Florida game last Saturday. By the way, FIU has a new web site. http://fiugoldenpanthers.com fourm Several stories from the Miami Hearld on the new FIU stadium. http://miamihearld.com/sports/colleges/fiu/story/683157.html and http://miamihearld.com/sports/colleges/fiu/story/691026.html First phase of their stadium $50 million, with continued construction on the upper decks. Seating at 45,000. Total investment for their furture at $80 million. Note- I fixed the Miami Herald links- they work now.

Another sci-fi movie that is one of my favorites is "War of the Worlds", which was remade staring Tom Cruise. The orginal had Gene Barry, who played in the TV series, Bat Masterson, as the leading character. The remake followed the same story line, except the aliens were already buried in the earth for centuries and sudddenly awake, and start attacking the earth. Another missing scene was in the orginal movie, where the town pastor walks out to one of the aliens machines trying to communicate, but gets zapped by the aliens. There are several other orginal movies scenes that were not in the remake. That is why I do not like a remake of the orginal movie. Too many script and production changes off the orginal movie. I prefer the movie producers to leave a good classic movie alone. If I had never seen the orginal War of the Worlds, the remake is not too bad of a movie.

I thought of the WR pass play as soon as Riley can on the field vs Tulsa. I like it! Gives the offense a new wrinkle for the opposition to worry about. I say we will see the same play alot this year for not only long routes but shot routes also. Maybe a short route and a pitch back to Riley runing down the field. Who knows what will happen, but one thing is for sure, having Riley on the field opens up many new offensive plays and that makes Riley dangerious!

I though the Mean Green did the best they could, and played very good considering that LSU is ranked # 7 in the BCS, the athletes LSU has, and playing in their house in front of 90K plus drunk LSU fans. LSU has the most size and speed that North Texas will face this year, which this type of competion was good to go against. All the players did benefit in experience and gained confidence. There were many good indications this North Texas team has improved in many areas, but not all phases of the game. There were several times the NT offense looked pretty good against the LSU defense and their constant blitzing packages. I do believe this young team is learning and learning fast, and I am glad the team is going against some of the best teams in college football. I do believe the defense has improved and will continue to grow. The Mean will be back in the Green. Now, with the 3 hardest games out of the way, there are 9 games remaining for the season. I do believe this team can play FA-Who, Troy, the Muts, and Aky State pretty much even. The Rice game could be the spring board the team needs, so the week off should help heal up the players, and time for the staff to make some adjustments in needed schemes. I really like the players and talent that Coach Dodge and his staff has brought in. The young guys are going to make us proud very soon!

I heard the weather guys say the first bands of heavy rain and wind will arrive in the DFW area around noon on Saturday. The Air Force and Houston game kicks off at 230pm Saturday. This game could become a wash out quickly.

Western Kentucky red shirted about 10 seniors off their 2006 team, which allowed these kids to play in 2007.

I Belive In The North Texas Mean Green......they

I am on your side GGII! I like your way of thinking and I know you always Believe in the Mean Green! -
Will the weather come into play with this game? Ike could be dumping major rain storms in the Baton Rouge area Saturday night, so could the rain balance out the game for both teams? The LSU team has just finished dealing with the effects of hurricane Gustov last week, now hurricane Ike is comming in. Could hurricane Ike be in the minds of the players? The LSU team has played only one game, against Appy State two weeks ago. Even Coach Miles said Appy State receivers dropped too many passes that could have changed how the game played out. If these receivers were open to recieve passes, can the NT recievers can get open too. LSU views the game as a "tune up" before SEC play. Do you think the LSU staff will show everything they have in this game, with Auburn comming up next week? LSU has Auburn the following week, a game the LSU fans are focusing on, so maybe LSU is more concerned about Auburn than North Texas. Maybe a North Texas advantage? I think NT will do much better than 3 points, and alot closer than by 50.

I read the postings all the time. Yes any one can say what they want. I will also say what I want. I find the negative crap writen about this team to be insulting to the team and to the true fans of North Texas! I have been around for a long time, and I have seen the good and the bad. The one common connection is some so called fans want to beat down the team when the team is not doing well, and make a point to point out how bad the team is. Real fans, yeah right! These fans do not know anything about football, and just follow the band wagon, or jump ship when things are not going their way. So reading the negative postings made by several posters is not new, and just fuels more disrespect for North Texas in college athletics. I bet the LSU fans lurking here are enjoying every posting! My choice is to read the negative postings and to defend this team any way I can. I get into wars here at work with the college football fans. All I hear is how NT sucks, and I see the same suck attitude writen into many postings. So I will defend North Texas everywhere I am at, even right here in our back yard.
-
What the heck is going on here? All this dome and gloom postings about how many points LSU scores, and how many consider our team is terrible. Seem like to me, many posters only support the team if the team is kicking the crap out of every opponent. Why not jump on the Tiger Droppings board and support LSU. Call your bookie and bet the house on LSU. I for one, believe the players on the North Texas team want to play the National Champs! Troy can't wait for Ohio State. FAU wanted to play Texas badly. La Monroe wanted to play Arkansas! The North Texas players and coaches want this game too. The players and coaches are going to give 110% against LSU. I don't give a rat's ass about what the national rankings, bottom ten, or the so called sports talking heads say about North Texas. I do know this, the day is coming when this team will win major upsets, and will start kicking the crap out of all the opponets! This team is a very young team, with many talented players that would have never considered comming to NT without Coach Dodge. This team is still learning, growing, and connecting to Dodge Ball. Support this team, and keep the postings positive. Here is my HSO, keep all negative crap postings off this board.

Is Vizza "too Afraid" Of Interceptions?
Charlie NT 73 replied to JesseMartin's topic in Mean Green Football
The "short" passing game is very good. What the offense wants is for the recievers to break away for the yards after catch. A 10 yd out pass can turn into a 90 yd TD reception. Just ask Fitzgerald! The size and speed of our receivers give the offense the ability to produce tons of passing yards, which is exciting to see. Ask $mu or Navy. Every one of our receivers are taught to block downfield, and open lanes on the shot pass routes which can produce alot of yards after catch, which is what the offense wants. Vizza is not falling behind or not producing. Just keep dinking and dunking, let the recievers do their thing. When the time is right, go for the home run ball. Vizza just wants to complete all his passes, move the chains, and score points. Looks to me Vizza and Dodge Ball take what is available, from what the opponets defense is doing. Don't worry, passing yardage will take care of itself this year. -
I am right there too, PHS Coach. I will be 60 in December. I would like to see NT in the new stadium, see top college teams playing regular 2 for 2 game series in Denton, and to win a BCS championship before I am pushing up dasies.

My thoughts on the game. The guy's played their ass's off, alot of gut's, and some very impressive North Texas players! Tulsa is a very experienced team, vet's all around, same system on offense and defense for several years, huge OL and DL players, and blitzing, blitzing and more blitzing. Tulsa is a good team, that was going to stop the NT offense any way they could. Tulsa did go after the inexperienced freshmen, lots of bubble screens, reverses, and single coverages. Our guy's learned alot the hard way. I cannot beleive all the negative postings on this board regarding how the team played, the burning of Riley Dodge's red shirt, and the questioning of Coach Dodge's second season. This rebuilding of the North Texas football program is going to take time. Coach Dodge has brought in 2 great recruiting classes, and he is playing the best athletes the team has. This team will develop and will get back to winning. Coach Dodge, and Coach DeLoach are the guy's that will make this happen. The North Texas defense and offense is made up of true freshmen, red shirt freshment, and sophmores, with very few juniors and seniors. These players did not quit. There are developing stars on this team now, that makes the future look very good. This is the beginning of the second season of Dodge Ball and many NT fans are expecting miracles over night. Calm down, the sky is not falling. LSU will be tough, but, our guys will learn from this game as well.
