  1. I thought coaches must notify the NCAA by a certain date on kids the coaches want to red shirt. I am not sure about the rules on red shirt status. I do not know if "walk on's" can receive a red shirt status since these kids are not on scholarship. Question- Can a kid recieve both a regular red shirt year and a medical red shirt year during their careers? Red shirt candidates: I would like to see big ole Nate Jenkins, 6-4, 360,000lbs get on a Jenny Craig/Life time Fitness red shirt. Juco, DB, Justin Edwards--maybe a medical R/S, like Cam received? DB James Hamilton, 5-10, 180- was a WR now a DB. LB Marques Davis, 6-1, 231, I do not know if he has played this year. WR Jamel Jackson, a medical R/S since he broke his collar bone? OL Matt Tomlison, 6-5, 280, was he on a medical R/S this year? WR Forest rucker, 6-6, 220, had a broken collar bone, will he qualify for a Medical R/S and not burn a regular red shirt year? OL, Aaron Fotenberry,6-5, 270, was a preferred walk on. Can he receive a red shirt from the NCAA as a walk on? There are several walk on's with the team now, so I do not know if any of these kids are going to have a red shirt.
  2. Greek, are you saying the opponents have the signals decoded? How do you know the ULM defense was reading the signals? Were you on the ULM side line? Does ULM coaches have spy's? If the ULM defense was shouting run or pass, does the ULM defense know which way the play was going, who would get the ball, which receiver was the hot receiver? NT ran up 31 first downs, and 528 yds of offense on ULM. Yes, looks like ULM had the signals decoded all right, and still could not stop the NT offense.
  3. The North Texas offense is easily figured out. Now that is a new analysis of Coach Dodge's system. Let's see. Coach Dodge helped install his system at Missouri, countless other coaches call up Coach Dodge on running the spead, and countless coaches attend his coaches clinics. I guess no coaches have been able to figure out the Texas offense, the Texas Tech offense, the Missouri offense, or the Oklahoma offense either.
  4. The Troy defense is one of the best in the country. The Troy DT's, DE's, LB's and CB's are very fast and very good. The best in the SBC. I do not think Daniel Meager, Colt McCoy, Chase Daniels or even Tony Romo could have made any difference against Troy's blitzing, pass rush, and DL play.
  5. I was listening to the Ticket yestrday afternnon, around 520pm. George went into a discussion about North Texas football, Coach Todd Dodge, and the NT players. About 5 minutes worth of his views on the whole program. Here are a few of points of George's first hand information. These are not exact quotes but you will understand what Geroge is saying. #1: George stated if his son can play college ball, he would want his son to play for Coach Dodge because of the way Coach Dodge takes care of the players, and wants the players to be successful, both with earning their degree and with college football. #2: Coach Dodge has assembled more high quality D1 talent than ever before. There are true freshmen, redshirts and sophmores gaining the experience they need now that will pay off down the road. The new stadium will help the recruiting efforts tremediously. #3: George stated he wished many of the NT fans to realize the rebuilding of North Texas football is going to take time, and that Coach Dodge is the man for this job. Coach Dodge has a excellent and inovative offensive system, that is developing the team. Sure we are disappointed not having a win yet, and so is Coach Dodge. The team has been closer to winning than what we know. #4: In his first year back, Gary DeLoach is teaching his defense to the young players. These players are getting better each week, gaining confidence, and learning the game. DeLoach will get the job done. DeLoach had the NT defense ranked at #4 in the country, but it took 2 years to do it. #5: I found this very interesting coming from George. "The cupboard was pretty bear." Dodge and Deloach are putting the young players on the field because they are the best they have. I trust Geroge Dunham and his views. George has seen more NT football than all of us put together. And I approve of this message.
  6. $mu ahead of North Texas? Newer better facilities? Geez, have you even looked around the campus at NT? 10 brand new facilities, new training center, new academic center, and the Mean Green Village to name just a few. The new tennis courts, the Super Pit vs Moody. Yeah $mu is ahead of North Texas. The new FB stadium, the Mean Green village complex of at least 10 more facilites in the current plans will make NT the athletic show case of the North Texas region for years to come. $mu is 1-o'fer for the season and looks to end at 1-11, really competive for sure. Too bad $mu can't schedule the same patsies like Hawaii would schedule. JJ is nationally known.- his team impressed the heck out of me when Hawaii played Gerogia in the bowl game. Coach Dodge, heck nobody has even heard of him, especially here in Texas, the football recruiting hot bed of America. Need better coaching- lets call up DC Gary Deloach and tell his ass off becasue he does not know what he is doing. After all 28 yrs of college coaching, 16 yrs as a DC, numerious all conference players, top 50 defensive rankings, then comes back to NT a second time, boy is he stupid. Same for OL coach Spencer Leftwich, what was he thinking? Lefty certainly helped Tulsa in 4 bowl games, huge offensive number, numerious all conference players. Come back to NT for a second stint at NT. Are you kidding me? Why would he do such a thing? Chuck Peterson, 17yrs at Air Force, and come back to NT. Again? Clayton George, he is another coach that does not know anything about WR's. Ex NT star, works the NT receivers and OC Tood Ford, get rid of these 2 also. Just because they helped NT to record setting offensive numbers last year, with a exciting offense, developed the 1st AA player at NT in God knows how long, yeah, get rid of these guys too. It is all Coach Dodge's fault for hiring these guys, and it is all Coach Dodge's fault for bring in 2 top recruiting classes, and for playing alot of true freshmen, red shirts, and sophmores to build the future. Heck, fire him too. None of these coaches are working, teaching, developing these players, much less trying to win games. $mu is passing us, the SBC teams are passing us, and NT is the worst team in America. Fire them all. Bring Double D back! Please!
  7. June Jones over at $mu has 14 comitments, 7 of these commitments are 3 star rated. $mu is looking at 1-11 this season, with their only win over a bad 1-AA Stephen F Austin. Jones has ofers all over the place, and will have a very good class for 2009. So I guess their win loss record affects their recruiting as well. Sherman at Texas A & M is having a bad year as well as Art Briles at Baylor, so no kids will go to these schools/coaches because they are having a bad year. Norte Dame had a terrible year last year, then Weiss brings in a top 10 class. Recruiting is selling the coaches, the program, and the school, not wins and loses.
  8. # 4, the best looking girls in Texas
  9. Just like last year, many many programs went after our recruits. Looks like to me, Coach Dodge and his staff did a great job with the 2008 class, even with all the negative recruiting tactics that was used against North Texas. The number one reason a kid pledges to a program is because of the coaching staff and not the win loss record. Good players do draw the attention of other top programs, so I would say the attention Flax is receiving should be a compliment to the quality of players the staff recruits. I am sure the staff is staying in close contact with the current recruits as well as the commitments that we do not know about. I would bet the number of prospects for the 2009 class is a greater number than the group of prospects for the 2008 class. I read that NT has 32 KNOWN offers out there right now, and no telling how many more offers are on the table for the 2009 class. Regardless if Flax stays or goes, the 2009 class will be a very good class and will meet the needs of the team. The staff knows the kids they want. The staff is going after these kids. The 2009 class will be a winner too!
  10. Defending Desormeaux - I have read about a defensive player called a "spy", that will key on one certain offensive player. Would using a "spy" work against Desormeaux?
  11. I want to know the nuts and bolts of the zone read offense that UL-LaLa operates. What makes this offense work, and what are the key's to stoping Fenroy and Desormeaux? I wonder how Gary Deloach will attack UL-LaLa's offense? Any thoughts on the defensve game plan?
  12. All the Troy fans are pissed at Tubby for firing Franklin, and not giving Franklin the time he needed to develop his spread offense. Franklin wanted to bring more Troy assistants with him to install his offense because the current Auburn coaches did not help. Tuberville has been on thin ice for a long time anyway, so to save his rear end, he fires TF, and says he will run the offense. Yeah, right! Looks like all the Troy fans want Franklin back into the Troy football program someway, as a consultant or recruiting coordinator. One posting says TF and LB have already talked. http://www.gotroytrojans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11523
  13. First, consider this. UL-LaLa had a offensive explosion last week vs UL-Mon. Fenroy had a 80 yd TD run, and a 89 yd TD run. Finished the night at 297yds. Now, Fenroy is only 30 yds away from over taking Patrick Cobbs as the SBC all time leading rusher. UL-LaLa had 6 plays that were 50 yds or longer. A total of 60 offensive plays gained 728yds, with 556 on the ground. Desormeaux, their zone read QB, had a 64yd TD run, and a 46yd 3rd down conversion run. Geez, our defense will be tested. Offense will move the chains, but, if NT falls behind quickly... this will become ugly fast. Maybe we should look forward to UL-Monroe. Predictions: UL-LaLa -- wins Attendence -- a good showing Fenroy will play on Sunday's.
  14. I was wondering about the TE formations too. I do not recall ever seeing the "Tornado" formation so far this season. Would Stickler, or Victor Gill or even Charley Brown be the TE in this formation?
  15. From watching Troy Franklin play Saturday, I would say Franklin will be a beast too. 6-5, 290lbs. Wow! Jessie Desoto, Jordan Scoggins, and Tevinn Cantley, and Franklin! Double wow! All of these freshmen and red shirts are playing, learning a new defensive system, and gaining on the job experience! No wonder DeLoach has a big grin on is face when he looks at his future DL and his future defense! Hill, Willams, Penson, Cook, Shorter, to name a few, all young talented guys learning! Give these guys and DeLoach the time they need to grow up, and see how the mean comes back to the Mean Green! But right now, according to some fans, the coaches can not coach at all, and the coaches do not know what they are doing! Yeah, right!
  16. Geez, Old Timer, you put up a very good posting about recruiting and before you even finish, you are getting ripped about the coaches. Looks like people only read what they want to, and they do not see the big picture. Dodge did come into a mess. Dodge and his staff are rebuilding, teaching a new system on offense and on defense. This takes time. Other coaches use this infighting to their advantage on the recruiting trails, so I agree, there is pleanty of negative BS written on this board the competion can use.
  17. At least our one-dimensional wasteland of a offense has produced a record total offensive season, produced more first downs that ever, produced new passing yardage records, produced a AA wide reciever that was buried 5 deep on the roster, produced the SBC Freshman of the Year, two of the very best recruiting classes in NT history, had 5000 fans for a spring game, has brought back more hope, and excitment for the fans than ever before, has helped get the ball rolling for a new satdium, a coach that really wants North Texas to have success in every aspect of the program, and a coach that all the kid's moma's love! Yes, a really one dimensional wasteland alright!
  18. Quoner, I think you need to change your handle to "Cool Hand Luke" because you are very cool, keep a level apporach to the postings, and you prove to the MGN there are idiots on this board! Thanks for the "recap" ! Very funny punch lines too!
  19. I remember the Memphis NOB game. Geez did we ever get robbed in that game. Bogger and another NT DE getting held, tackled, and mugged, just before the QB completes the long pass from their end zone-damn ref's! Could these NT teams be competitive in todays SBC? Maybe, maybe not. In the NOB vs Old Southern Miss, their def coordinator devised the best game plan to stop DD/RF running game cold. Worked perfectly. From that point on, every team NT played, copied the same defense from Old Southern Miss, and found they too could stop the NT running attack. Only problem was DD/RF would not change the offense in any way. Man, how many times was J-Mo hammered in the backfield before he even received the hand off? So if DD was still here, running the same offense, with out changing anything, these great teams might win one or two games this year in the SBC, because the opponents would know already how to defense the very same running game, would know what play was about to be ran, (draws, draws, draws), and did not worry too much about pass plays.
  20. One answer, I back Coach Todd Dodge, his staff, and the players 110%. Give this team the time to develop. Coach Dodge knows football, as well as his staff, and they are teaching this young talent how to play the game. Coach Dodge and his staff will continue to recruit top talent for NT that will pay off huge dividends. Give Coach Dodge his 4 years! Losing talented players? I have only seen one kid that I regret losing. Every college in america loses kids. There is not a mass migration of kids leaving the North Texas football program! If the kid is not happy, then go somewhere else. Why do people think every kid on the team is quiting? Geez! Kids left Hayden Fry's teams too! Coach Dodge is accountable for the football team.Yes, but let him do his job his way! The program was a mess to begin with, so was that his fault? That is why he was hired. Coach Dodge is our best chance to bring back the Mean Green! I sure as heck want the new stadium. So bringing in the new stadium is the adminstations job, and for the first time in a long long time, the adminstation is backing athletics, especially the football program. Everyone knows the benefits of this venture, as well as Coach Dodge.
  21. With FA-who's loss to the muts- check this out. http://fauowlsnest.com/board/index.php?topic=5842.0 Read through these postings. Three pages of bad coaching! Some of the excerpts from the FA-who loyal supportative fans: 1. Bad play calling, get Howard off the sidelines! 2. No discipline, players making same mistakes, bad position coaches! 3. Can't coach to the next level. Does not know what he doing! 4. Medicore recruiting, no talent coming in! 5. Very bad coaching, old out dated, need new younger coaches now! 6. It is the players fault- no desire, coaches fault! Penalties, penalties! 7. The team is a joke, we suck, fire Howard now! 8. Howard's in charge of everything-he should only be fund raiser! Geez, this sounds very simular for some reason. I don't like Howard, but, he is a great college coach. Built the FA-who program from the ground up, winning season, rankings, bowl game win, funding, new stadium, now the FA-who fans want his head!
  22. Very good post, T-Rock! I will be there. North Texas wins this game. NT 45, FI-who 10. Montogmery and Dunbar will look like Cobbs and J-mo runing up and down the field. Vizza has 300yds passing! No ints! Defense has 4 take aways! Holds FI-who to 150 total yds. Crowd goes wild! This game will be the start of great things to come!!!
  23. North Texas wins this game, big time. North Texas 45, FI-who, 10 Attendence, 19000+.
  24. All I can say about Sam Dibrell is thanks for playing for the MG. I did enjoy seeing you play. Follow your heart where it leads you! If bad things are so easy to happen, good things can happen just as easy. A door closes then a new door opens. Use the opportunity! Now here is a opportunity on this team for one of the WR's to move up. There are several very good WR's that can grab this opportunity. Brock Stickler- has been injured, so hopefully he can return. Proven player, senior leader, very strong. 6-3, 225. Sam # 2- Sam Robertson, 6-4, 220, tons of potential, size and speed! Alex Lott- very deceiving player, has caught some passes, and has gained yards after catch. You do not need to be 6-2 to be a great WR! B.J. Lewis, plays the slot, but could move outside. Breece Johnson, has good size and speed, top recruit. Kenny Barrett and Desmond Bringham, seem to be on the red shirt list. Forrest Rucker had a very good spring, very promising but he broke his collar bone- still out, could red shirt. I think these WR's will step up. The door closed on Dibrell, now the door will open for these WR's. No drop off in talent here, and maybe better things are just waiting to happen.
  25. More FIU facts. FIU runs a spread offense, with a TE and a H-back. The H-back is a very talented freshman, T.Y. Hilton, 5-10, 175, excellent speed. Hilton has a 74yd TD punt return, and a 37yd TD pass. Very young team, with 23 freshmen/red shirts seeing action in their 4 games. 10 true freshmen and 5 redshirts are on the O/D two deep. Starting QB, jr Paul McCall, 32/70, 272yds, 1 TD pass; so Wayne Younger, 14/29, 178yds, no TD's is the B/U but does play alot. The team 3rd down conversions are roughly 1 out of 5, but, on 4th down conversions, 5/5. After 4 games, the offense avg's 196 total yds. Opponents have scored 48 points in the 1st qtr, and 43 points in the 2nd qtr. Defense is a basic 4-3, with multiple looks. The DT/NG 2 deep are all seniors, the 2 starting DE's are seniors, with 2 freshmen DE's as back ups. The defense gives up 192yds offfense per game, with 112yds via pass, and 84yds rushing. Toledo helped FIU with several costly turn overs in FIU's 35-16 win last week. Against South Florida, FIU scored their 9 points in the final minutes in the 17-9 loss. Iowa manhandled FIU, 42-0. FIU is compairable to NT in several areas, but, I do believe NT will handle FIU next Saturday.
