Back to Vito's subject- NT has none of the DMN top area players. Again, Vito puts his crap spin on NT recruiting. I see that he did mention $mu, and TCU have not had success with this group of 37 players. What about Baylor, Houston, K-State, Okie State, Kansas, Colorado to name a few other schools without one of this group of 37. Why are these schools unsuccessful with this group? How many DMN and FWST top 100 players were recruited by NT last year? I recall about 10 top area players commited to NT so do not tell me the NT staff is not addressing recruiting the DFW area. Mayberry, Bennet, and Jackson are from the Dallas area high schools. Yeah, Coach Dodge and his staff can not compete. Absurd! To bad DE Ryan Boutwell, 1st team 3A all state, and LB Daniel Pryor, Scout 3 star, do not live in the local DMN market. I am suprised Vito has not ragged about these 2 players.

I knew a negative response would come back to my posting. Got two responses all ready! I am suprised FLF has not chimed in! I will give FLF some more time.

Warren to SFA-- so what. This player wanted recruiting to go his way. I wonder why UAB, who is needing defensive players badly, would pull their offer also. I do believe the staff had a good reason to let this player go. Since the NT fans are not in the recruiting board room, and have no idea of all the players the staff is recruiting, there is no reason to panic, or be afraid, or feel like a 1-AA school is out recruiting NT or Coach Dodge. Look at the caliber of recruiting prospects the staff has gone after and continues to recruit. Coach Dodge and the staff have evaluated the needs of the team, and are working their butts off to gain the commitments of the players they want and need! There are about 10 scholarships available, so I would want the staff to be very selective with recruits, during the final few weeks of recruiting. I am very confident the staff has key target players they want, and I am confident the staff will gain the players commitments.

North Texas has an excellent deep snapper on the team now! A good suprise developed right under our noses. Troy Kokjohn, listed at 6-2, 278. If you remember the K-St game, our DS, Christian Davidson, got hurt early in the game. Troy came in and handled all the punt DS's perfectly, blocked his opponents, and I think he also had a tackle or two. Troy has played in several games handling extra points and punt deep snapping. He also plays OG. I think he is a redshirt freshman, so he will be at NT for several years. I am not worried about deep snaps at all!

My observations: The fans looked to be spread out through out the Pit. I was happy to see alot of families, kids, and senior fans supporting the Mean Green. Very good turn out. Too bad the students were not in school, or the Pit would be packed. The crowd was way too quite though. Jub Jub did a good job calling the game. By the way, nice suite George! Where is the green? Good interview by George with Rick Villarreal. Rick said the new FB stadium will open by 2011. Rick gave props to JJ on his BB development at NT. Rick was wearing a green sweater that looked kinda tight- Rick must have hit the Christmas dinner pretty hard! Now, why is it, that anytime NT is on TV, especially in the DFW market, the team always finds a way to lose! Geez, UTA? For the 6th time in a row! To a Southland Conference team? Geez Louise!

Deloach Recruiting...response Finally
Charlie NT 73 replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
"players that he as defensive coordinator wants" I wish I could see his wish list of defensive players that he wants. I bet the list of names is very impressive. We only know about the names that are public knowledge, so there is no way to know about all the top prospects that are targeted. I can see DeLoach being very picky about defensive players. I would say the propects mirror the DeLoach attitude, mean and nasty! Hot damn! Gary DeLoach has a plan, and he is following his plan by recruiting the players that he wants! The Mean will be back in the Green soon, my North Texas faithful! Believe in Gary DeLoach! -
# 90 did looks pretty good too!

Man, all this doom and gloom on JUCO recruiting! Have some faith! All college coaches win and lose in the recruiting game. Do not judge recruiting skills on a couple of players commiting to another school or not sending in their LOI's. Calm down folks! The staff targeted many good players, and went after these players. We do not know the complete list of ALL the prospects the staff targeted, nor do we know about each prospects individual situation. There are many good JUCO players out there, and I am sure the staff has a good list of quality players they are recruiting. The staff is very selective and will not waste a scholarship on a marginal player. Save the scholarship for the player they want now or for a later date when some JUCO's finish their degrees. I would like to see the list of high school talent the staff has targeted too. I would bet there are many impressive HS players the staff is recruiting. I am confident the staff will receive impressive HS commitments too. The talent on the team is young. These young players have finished a full year together, and they are into their weight training and conditioning programs for 2008/09. I can see these talented players really improving, and becoming a very good team for the 2009 season. The 2009 class of players will just add to the talent that is here now. That is how a team rebuilds and reloads, one year at a time.

I am glad the staff was able to recruit a very good CB in Smith. Yes, there were 4 or 5 true freshmen CB's and Safeties that were pushed into starting positions. I think the staff wants a couple of JUCO veterans to help the secondary, and not put all the pressure on the young guys. Smith is a very good CB! As far as WR's, I think the staff will not pass on a quality WR. Would you pass on a 4 star WR if the prospect would commit? Maruice Langston would be a huge get for the Mean Green. DL, DE, OL guys are out there, and the staff has known for a long time what prospects they want to recruit. I would bet the prospect list is very long for these positions. Let the staff handle this area. The recruits will develop, and commit. Last, do not feel like the staff is losing the war, becasue our buddy Vito likes to focus on the prospects that choose another school, or that a comitment is not listed on Rival or Scouts all america teams. The statement made about the staff not knowing college level talent is plain ass stupid! Geez! There is a ton of talented prospects trying to make up there minds too. North Texas is a great opportunity and a great school for these prospects. The commitments will come!

Here is a comparison to think about. Our current DT's. If these guys, hit the weights, run, eat beef, goat, buffalo and everything else in sight- fill in the blank! Jesse Desoto, 6-1, currently 286lbs, 14lbs shy of ______lbs. Troy Franklin, 6-4, currently 277lbs, 23lbs shy of ______lbs. Draylen Ross, 6-4, currently 286lbs, 14lbs shy of ______lbs. Jordan Scoggins, 6-2, currently 281lbs, 19lbs shy of ______lbs. Tevinn Cantly, 6-4, currently 310lbs, WTF, a 300+ pound DT now? Tevinn maybe you need to shed a few pounds! And now, Shavod Atkinson, 6-1, 316lbs that is very quick and fast! Kinda reminds me of another quick and fast 300lb DT that roamed around Fouts field a few years ago!
-
Wow! After watching the videos, this DT is quick and fast! Looks like he has the ability to blow up plays even after handling double team blocking! Looks like a high intensity player, with a powerful motor! Great great news! Congratulations to the staff!! Welcome to the Mean Green Shavod!

A friend of mine, who lives in B'ham, emailed me to say Mike Leach was going to Auburn, and that this deal had been in the works for some time.

From the SBC board, ULL 42, Muts 28. Old Southern Miss will go to the NOB. Troy vs Ark St will battle on Sat for the NOB bid. ULL may go to Houston, for the TX Bowl vs Rice.

Brett Vito: My Advice For A Wounded Unt Program
Charlie NT 73 replied to mgsteve's topic in Mean Green Football
During Double D's era at NT, one coach was assigned to recruit the entire DFW metroplex, Ramon Flannigan. Does that explain Dickey's success in the DFW hotbed of football talent. -
There are many young players that IMHO that came on as the season progressed. One of many of players that impressed me is DT Jesse Desoto. At the Ark St game, I watched Jesse alot. First thing I noticed was the amount of attention Ark St was giving to Jesse. Just about every play, Jesse was taking on double teams, and fighting his way through the blocks. I saw Jesse make good stunt moves too. Jesse is quick and fast. Another full year of weight training will make Jesse stonger, bigger, and faster. This kid is special. I think he will be a dominate DT for NT in 2009, and a force the other SBC teams will have to deal with. I can see Jesse making SBC honors for the 2009 season.

Troy Kokjohn- I remember when Christin Davidson got hurt in the K-State game. I was wondering who was going to handle the deep snaps now? NT was deep in NT terrority. 4th and forever. Spencer was going to punt from deep in the NT end zone. The were 45000 rapid screeming K-State fans smelling blood! A sacrafice was about to happen! From out of no where, Jub Jub announces Troy Kokjohn will come in and deep snap? Jub Jub and Hank were trying to pronounce his name correctly. A walk on red shirt freshman to boot! Has not played in a game yet as far as I knew! I was seeing all kinds of bad things about to happen! So Troy comes into a very bad pressure situation! Troy goes out there like no big deal! Cool, calm, and ready! Makes a perfect deep snap to Spencer who gets off a great punt. Troy not only make that deep snap, but all of the deep snaps. Against Ark State, Troy make all the extra point snaps too! This kid is a winner! Very important position to play! I am so glad he chose to come to NT!

1-11: Team's Ability Or Coaches' Errors?
Charlie NT 73 replied to greenjacket's topic in Mean Green Football
Wow greenjacket, you really know the in's and the out's of North Texas football! DeLoach does not play his best players? Who do you think is on the field? Popularity and favoritism? Geez! I guess the staff has a popularity contest each week as to who plays and who does not. Where do you get this stuff? I am so thankful for fans like you! -
I vote for giving Coach Dodge all 5 years of his contract. The guy came into a very bad situation at NT, and it will take at least 3-4 years to turn this program around. If you only look at wins/losses, things look bad. If you look at the development of these young players, things look great! Believe it or not, progress was made this season. Over 17 freshmen and 5 redshirts saw alot of action this year, but the coaches know there are a couple of weak areas. The coaches know where help is needed and they are working on gaining the recruits to make this team great. The players are going into their off season work to gain strength and size, and to get ready for 2009. Have faith! Coach Dodge, the staff, and the players know they are very close to making NT a powerful program again.

Dodge Was Hired Because Of His Exciting Offense
Charlie NT 73 replied to the real grad88's topic in Mean Green Football
I do beleive Coach Dodge and his staff have proven they can recruit quality defensive and offensive players! Period! I cannot believe some of you say there is no talent! Cannot recruit? Are ya'll blind! Geez! Jesse Desoto, Troy Franklin, Tevinn Cantley, just to name a few. How about Royce Hill, John Shorter, Darrin Williams, and D. Cook. Penson and Davis? How about Scoggins, Barrett, Bringham, Mathis? JJ Johnson, Coleman Feeley, Santiago, Tomlinson, Dunbar, Hamilton, Johnson, Roberson, and the list goes on! What about the current red shirts waiting for their turn in 2009? The 2009 team will be loaded! There are many many major college programs that wanted these players, and these players commited to North Texas and to Coach Dodge, to build a great program and great team! Give these kids time to develop! Let the real NT fans support these kids! -
I watch too much CSI, now that Perry Mason is no longer on TV.

This whole story is full of holes. I think FR is the fall guy for something else. Student "A", the girl who owns the card, gets a call from her parents regarding current charging and the amounts charged. Student A claims she has not used the card for a month, and did not know the card was missing. At the same time, FR is text messaging Student A, about using the card. Student A, knew all along who had possission of the card. Why not ask for the card back at this point? Now, do you know any college student with a credit card, especially a girl, that does not use their credit card for a month, muchless not knowing where the card is kept? Like your pocket book/bill fold that you look into everyday? Yeah right! I like this next part! Mysteriously, the card reappears on the floor of the Victory Hall lobby, and found by Student "B". Out of all the people who live in Victory Hall, the one who finds the card, is non other than Student B, a friend of Student A. Why would FR dump the card on the floor of Victory Hall, when he knows the owner of the card? Why not just give the card back to student A? Student B who has possession of Student A's card, and who knows Student A, does not return the found card immediately - - The card is returned 2 days later for crying out loud! Why 2 days later? Now Student A and Student B have a pow wow to get their story straight, and develop a plot that will explain how the card turned up missing, how to account for the charges, find suspects, and keep their rear ends in the clear. Student B and Student A determine there are 4 suspects that had access to Student A's room, including FR, but not naming Student B as having access also. These two determine FR is the guy. None one else could have done this. After the cops have documented proof and a confession from FR about using the card. I do not think the card was stolen at all. I think Student A gave the card to FR to use, only FR ran up too many charges, which the parents of Student A are wanting to know about. I think this could be a boy friend/girl friend spat, and the girl is trying to protect herself from her parents anger. Thats my 2 cents.
