  1. Did anyone else see the bus load of football recruits that arrived at the main gate, then made their way to the North Texas bench? Coach Canales was talking to each of the recruits, shaking hands, giving hugs, and showing these recruits that he cares about them and North Texas. I overheard two recruits who said, they hope Canales will be the next coach at NT during while in line at the Scouts concession booth. With the coaching situation at NT, I though very few recruits would come to NT for a visit. I can see Canales has made a bing impression on recruiting for NT. There must have been 60-70 football recruits on that bus alone! Aditional recruits were showing up in smaller groups into the 1st quarter. I have never seem that many recruits come to a single North Texas game! There is no doubt that Canales can connect to the prospects! That ability to connect to football prospects is a very big +1 in my book.
  2. From the FAUowlsnest.com board http://fauowlsnest.com/board/index.php?topic=10870.0 Tommy Bowden mentioned as a replacement for Howard. FAU will open their new stadium next year. I hope Howard is still the FAU coach for their new stadium opening. Schnellenberger has done a great job with developing FAU, into a good college football program.
  3. Kram, Pass Mack Brown's advice over to Wade Phillips.
  4. Please add to the poll "None of the above" thanks!
  5. RV is a very smart guy, and a heck of a AD. RV is well respected amoung his peers throughout the country. One day, NT will lose RV to another major college program. In the mean time, I would bet that RV has been planning ahead since last year, on how to handle the search for the next HFC at NT. RV must have a game plan in place for the next HFC at NT. The first part of his plan was the termination of Coach Dodge. The remaining parts of RV's plan are being implemented now. I would not be suprised to find out, that RV already has his own top candidates list completed, and will follow through with his plan in a timely manner. Who knows for sure. Heck, the deal for the next HFC at NT may already be in place. Like I said, RV is a smart AD/business man, who is always thinking ahead of the game regarding NT athletics. RV will make the right choice for the HFC position at NT.
  6. Bower made a statement about coaching in the SBC awhile back. I do not remember the source though. Bower stated that he would consider coaching at only one of the SBC schools, then refused to name the school. Maybe the school is North Texas. I think Bower's choice of SBC schools would be Troy University. Bower and his S Miss staff did recruit Texas, mainly east Texas, DFW, Houston, SA/Austin areas. Bower also recruited the Miss JUCO's successfully.
  7. The FIU game was bad, but, you know what? I saw several players (other than the players we know and see all the time during a game) that impressed me with their play! DS Troy Kokjohn-- racked up another solo tackle on a punt return. I think Kokjohn has 4 or 5 tackles to his credit already. Covers the center of the field on punt returns! Fights off downfield blockers, attacts the punt return team players. DT Richard Abbe, for a big man, Abbe has great foot work, speed and can move around very well. Abbe was going in on all the 3rd and short FIU plays. Abbe had a couple of solo stops. Abbe is a freshman, and already playing very well. Abbe will be a monster DT for NT! Abbe rotates with Atkinson. I would like to see Abbe on the field more. LB Zac Orr. Filled in for Penson on a regular bases. Penson and Orr would high 5 each other as they passed going in or out of the play. Orr will be a star! WR Brelan Chancellor. Wow, Brelan is fast, fast, fast! Chancellor will take a KO or punt to the house one day. TE Jamize Olawale. Jamize had 2 critical pass receptions, great hands, eye for the ball. Olowale looks more like a big WR than a TE! There were several more players that caught my eye, so on the next game, follow some of these other players. You will be impressed too!
  8. Does anyone know the extent of Will Atterberry's injury? Any news on how Will is doing?
  9. FAU will bring the whole house after Riley and Lance all game long. Stop the play makers, and blow up the offensive plays. Blitz, Blitz, Blitz, for Riley, and a spy on Lance. I would like for the staff to take advantage of the FAU aggressive defensive schemes. Quick slants to Stradford, Carey, to use their speed for yards after catch. Zone reads, pass to flat, reverses for Dunbar. An aggressive defense can be burned time after time. I believe the staff can develop a game plan, that will create many big plays for the offense!
  10. Terrible injury to a great player for North Texas. I pray his surgery is successful, and he has a successful rehab! And I pray JJ can receive an extra year at NT! Nick Leppo will handle the OL play fine. He handled the Clemson DL for 43 snaps and did a very good job! During two-a-days, Coach Dodge would put Nick in with the first team OL in a unexpected manner, which simulated emergency situations if the center was injured or taked out of a game. Sure enough, a bad injury happen, and Nick went in cold. Looks like to me, the practice for replacing JJ paid off. Nick made the OL play calls, and handled his blocking assignments! Nick is a big guy, at 6-3, 285, and strong as a bull! Nick has a ton of experience at the center position, and is skilled at making the snap back to the QB. Nick Leppo has already hit the ground running, and he is ready to start!
  11. Every home game last year had many football recruits visiting. Does anyone know of any recruits that will be at Fouts on Saturday? Names, players to look for?
  12. Where are the TCU game video's?
  13. Last year TCU played Clemson in heavy rain all game long. TCU won 14-10.
  14. Conor Gilmartin-Donohue is starting over Draylen Ross! I fine this hard to believe!
  15. Mathis is no longer on the team. Mathis resigned last week.
  16. Where is Chris Hurd when you need him? Sashington's scholarship counts on the 2010 class. Sashington received Mike Millers scholarship. If Mathis gains his release, will Mathis departure leave another scholarship available?
  17. Is the bar in Irving a sports bar? Does this bar carry NT football games on their TV's? What is the name of the bar?
  18. another mystery- WR/TE Grant Davis, 6-5, 220, from Plano HS Eagletalk- http://eagletalk.net/2010/04/22/grant-davis-a-true-sleeper-for-north-texas.aspx
  19. I wonder if this guy is Zachary Johnson, 6-9, 291, Norman OK?
  20. Article on the Bleacher Report, "2010 Non-BCS Conference Profiles: Sun Belt Conference http://bleacherreport.com/sun-belt-football Check out North Texas RB, "Lamar Dunbar", who is mentioned twice in the story. Geez! One of the very best RB's in the country and the Bleacher Report cannot report Dunbar's name correctly! IMHO, this article confirms to me the Bleacher Report is about as useful as screen doors on a submarine.
  21. Darryl Jackson, OL, 6-7, 299, was also denied admission to $MU.
  22. I met my old friends, David Yaege and David Kervin at the Army game last year, along with several other football lettermen of the late 60's and early 70's teams. Yaege told me, he was going to be a candidate for the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010. Many of the football lettermen are planning will come back to Denton for the Oct 9th game vs Arkansas State.
  23. Take a look at greeneagleone's posting over on the basketball forum, post # 6 under "Article on Alonzo Edwards". Greeneagleone describes his background, and why he writes his North Texas stories on his web site. I like his articles too.
  24. The LA Tech coaches site lists Rob Likens as the assistant HFC and WR's coach. When Sonny Dykes was hired as the new HFC, Dykes cleaned house. Conroy Hines has been at LA Tech the past 16 years. Hines bio lists his wife is a math instructor at Tech. Will she leave her job? I was fired up about Peterson being hired with his background and experience. I liked John Pont from North Alabama, learning under Terry Bowden, but Bowen hired his brother, Jeff, to take over the WR's. Both candidates were out of work. Maybe these are candidates that have only interviewed.
  25. Coach Peterson will have a very good group of experienced North Texas WR's to coach. There are 10 WR's that caught passes in the 09 season. This season Tyler Stradford can play! The staff added JUCO transfer Christopher Barnes, 6-1, 210 with the 2010 class, who turns out ot be the mystery stelth recruit of the class. Starters Darius Carey, Jamaal Jackson, Mike Outlaw, BJ Lewis return, which will give Coach Peterson a good start for the 2010 season. Depth with Rucker, Johnson, Lott, Bingham, and Brown.
