  1. So, if a "spot" opened up for Flower Mound Marcus OG Ryan Rentfro, 6-4, 300, does that means a current commit has flipped to another school? Walling to $MU? Maybe Coach McCarney pulled a scholarship from a prospect because the prospect was wavering on his college choice. I would expect several more last minute recruit changes before recruiting is done.
  2. Smith looks to be very strong with the way he can break tackles. He does not appear to be that fast, but he does have another gear that kicks in for long break away runs. Catches the ball very well too. Dennis Smith is a very good player, that North Texas would like to have. There are several very good players that have NT offers that could commit to North Texas during the last days of recruiting. Does Coach McCarnery have the ships available if any of these prospects commit to North Texas?
  3. If the recruiting is completed, why are recruits and their families still visiting North Texas? I am sure the staff has back up plans in case any current commitments flip to another school. Mansfield QB Je'ron Evans, and Flower Mound OG Ryan Rentfro, 6-4, 300, are scheduled to visit North Texas. I would like to know the other recruits that will visit NT during the last 2 recruiting weeks. I think there will be some unexpected comitment opportunities to develope as recruiting comes to a end on LOI day. How will the staff make room for 2-4 more quality players? Interesting note. Troy has signed 13 JUCO players to their 2012 class, and has 14 high school commitments.
  4. Busby and is team mate, OT Sam Rice, 6-4, 290, are listed in Dave Campbell's top 300. Sam Rice has a wingman, OG Jake Williams, 6-4, 300. I wonder if the staff considered Jake Williams?
  5. I hope Chase Walling stays with North Texas. If Walling decommits, that is his business. I am sure the staff has other OL prospects available, that NT fans do not know. Prospects do change their minds on their college choice. I am impressed with the way the staff can have prospects de-commit from other programs, then commit to North Texas. Under Coach McCarney's watch, these players changed their commitment. 1. TE Andrew Power, was commited to Tennessee 2. Safety Kerry Swarn, was commited to Arizona 3. CB Freddie Warner, was commited to Texas Tech 4. WR Chaz Sampson, was commited to Tulsa 5. CB Dequarius Johnson, was commited to Akron There are North Texas prospects that have commited to other programs. Maybe the coaching staff can gain a few de-commitments before recruiting ends in Feburary.
  6. Besides Leo Thomas, some of his other team mates at S.A. Sam Houston are: 1. DE Javonte Magee, 6-6, 270, Dave Campbell's Defensive Super Team 2. OT Ralpheal Green, 6-5, 335, Dave Campbell's top 300-- commited to Indiana 3. OG Prince Eshan, 6-3, 300 4. DT/OL Melvin Ross, 6-4, 280
  7. Here is a intersting topic on the BlueRaiderZone.com football forum. Defensive and Offensive coordinator wish list. http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=349&f=2388&t=8338697 Blue Raider fans would love to have Todd Dodge as their OC.
  8. CanaTigers Thanks for the Cameron Washington highlight videos. Very impressive RB. Tell us about the big OL players that block for Washington. Thanks Charlie
  9. During Hayden Fry's first or second at NT, Fry signed 6 or 8 players from one HS, Carter HS in Dallas. I believe Carter had won the state championship that year, so Fry wanted players from a championship team. Carter HS arranged a LOI signing day event for players and their families. Hayden Fry attended the event too. The LOI signing day event made big sports news in Dallas. (I think Hayden played a big role in setting up the LOI event though his contacts with the local Dallas sports media) The signing day event included both the Dallas newspapers, who ran front page photos of the players, Fry, and the story. The local Dallas TV stations sports reporters were at the LOI day event too. The stations ran the story on their sports shows that same day. My point is, if one HS team is loaded with tallent, why not recruit all the players available? I see no reason why Coach McCareny would not recruit the college level talent of the top players at Chaple Hill HS. If the players meet the criteria the staff wants and needs, recruit all of them. Same recruiting apporach for any HS in Texas. If a team is loaded with talent, why not go after all the talented players?
  10. I was listing to the game on KNTU 88.1. After the game ended, George and Hank were talking about the post game highlights, and locker room interview with Coach McCarney. Suddenly KNTU switched to the Guyer play off game, right in the middle of George's post game review. The two guy's calling the Guyer game are said, this just in "North Texas wins, 38-33" "Thopson throws for over 300 yards" Next these guys start on the Guyer game. I turned my radio off at this point. I did see NT highlights on Channel ll and Channel 8 sports news.
  11. I watched Ryan alot during the La Monroe game. I am very impressed with Ryan as a DT. Ryan will continue to become a very good DT, despite the "not big enough to play DT" remarks for the football experts. On every play, Ryan was getting double teams, and chop blocks, but still fought his way trough the OL. With one on one blocking, Ryan wins the match! The extra attention on Ryan gives the other NT defensive guy's opportuities to make plays. Ryan is very smart, strong and quick, which gives Ryan a big advantage. It is clear the opponents OC's view Ryan difficult to defend, and presents a big challenge to their offensive game plans. Watch Ryan during the Troy game. You will see what I am talking about!
  12. Please remember that Coach McCarney stated all game plans are developed and reviewed by the entire staff. The offensive game plan was approved by the staff prior to the game. If your bashing Coach Canales, you should also bash Coach McCarney. In reality, there should not be any bashing of any coach or players. The NT offensive and defensive teams are playing with freshmen, red shirt freshmen, sophomores, and a few seniors thrown in. All predictions I read about this season was calling for a 4-8 season, not a SBC championship. This staff will get NT back to dominating the SBC and to bowl games. Former Louisiana HFC Ricky Bussel, went 6-6 his last two years, plus Bussel recruited very well. There were at least 20 OL and 20 DL players on the Louisiana roster, big guys with 1-3 years of expericence. I would say the new Louisiana coach had a ton of veteran players available for his first season. Games are won in the trenches! OL and DL guys take time to develop. Plane and simple, North Texas was out manned the last quarter. That was a bunch of tired players still giving 110% on the field. NT had their chances to choke Louisiana, and that is what is the most disappointing to me. So close but yet so far away. This team is learning, and sometimes learning hurts. Learn from the game and get ready for Monroe, who just beat Troy 38-10 last Saturday. I am actually looking toward the 2012 season to show the greatest improvment. Not the 2011 season.
  13. I will try to leave the office alittle early to beat the traffic back to Grand Prairie! I can't wait to meet the coaches, and join in with other MG fans! Parks and Rec Rick- I will see you there. Green 59 will be there too Charlie
  14. I live in Grand Prairie! I will attend the Grand Prairie event. I attended the event at the Ruth Jackson Center in Grand Prairie a few years back. I would guess about 150 fans came in. Great event! Thanks to Parks and Rec Rick for developing the events in Grand Priarie!
  15. At the spring game, I was suprised too see many walk on players listed on the hand out roster. There were 20-22 names that I did not reconize. Heck, 20-22 walk on's is a recruiting class. I am looking forward to the 2011 class reporting in for two-a-days this coming August! This class is loaded with talented players, both on offense and defense. As far as a true freshman defensive player making a impact, I voted for DT Terell Brooks, becasue I believe Brooks has the talent to make the DT rotation as a athlete, and not because of the shortage of DT players. Brooks is a very good DT player, ready for the next level.
  16. Here are my questions: 1. Will any of the incoming freshman class come to North Texas this summer to work out in the summer conditioning/training program? 2. For the last remaining football scholarship, are you searching for a OL or DL player? 3. Are you going to have any football camps at North Texas this summer? 4. You learned from one of the best coaches, Hayden Fry. Fry used stand up DE's in his defensive schemes. Have you considered having the DE's to stand up rather than in a 3 point stance? 5. I see you have made some player position changes, Jamize Olawale, TE to WR, and Will Wright, DB to LB. Both good moves IMHO. Any other player position changes, who and why?
  17. Interesting comparison to think about. North Texas Track and Field sprinter, Senior, Justin Flowers tied a SBC 100 meter time of 10.54 this week. North Texas football recruit, RB Zac Whitfield, ran the 100 meters at the Frisco ISD Track meet, timed at 10.56. Can Zac compete in track and field, and football for North Texas?
  18. Rivals shows CB Terrell Burt commited to Baylor yesterday, 03/27.
  19. I looked up the football roster on Meangreensports.com this morning to check out current listed roster players. I found 3 new names listed: DE Nick Crewe, 6-4, 230, freshman, from The Woodlands TX HS DE Ryan Long, 6-4, 240, junior, from Leonard TX HS WR Mike Marshall, 6-0, 195, freshman, from South Grand Prairie TX HS I remember that strength and conditioning Coach Wintrich was in charge of the walk on try outs a few weeks back, so I am wondering if these 3 players came from Wintrich's walk on try outs? Does anyone have any information on these players?
  20. I just checked the Rivals site for the North Texas football commitment list for commitment updates, and player rating scores. I do not want to start a debate about how the recruiting services suck, but, come on Rivals! These two RB's are great RB's from the DFW area! Antoinne Jimmerson has a rating score of only 5.3 Zach Whitfield has a more respectable score of 5.4 IMHO, both should be rated 3 Star athletes. Both are listed in Dave Campbell's top 300. I think both are DFW top 100 players too. After watching the video's for both players, I am very impressed with their abilities, and I am thankful both decided that North Texas is their college! GMG!
  21. Why has Auburn not offered a scholarship to a 4 star DT from their own back yard? No SEC schools, except Auburn, is a SEC school of interest list SunBelt schools: DeMarcus Ware is from Auburn, so why is Troy not recruiting Payne too? Troy is not listed on Payne's schools of interest. Ark St and WKU have scholarship offers to Payne. Middle Tennessee has not offered Payne. I would think a 4 star DT would be drawing alot of interest from the SEC or the ACC schools. Maybe Payne just wants to get away from Auburn, just like the top local Denton HS players want to get away from Denton.
  22. WR's coach, Conroy Hines, was retained by McCarney!
  23. Neinas Sports Group http://www.neinassports.com/ From the Neinas Sports Group web site: "identify and assist in the employment of athletic adminstrators and coaches" Seems to me, the Neinas Sports Group, offers a employment service like a corporate employment search (head hunter) organization. Has the Neinas Sports Group given a recommendation to NT, to consider Mike Canales for the HFC position? Nobody knows. Has the Neinas sports Group indentified Mike Canales as a possible HFC or assistant for any other school? Nobody knows that answer either. If I worked for the Neinas sports Group, I certainly would have a dossier on Mike Canales.
  24. Yes, my cousin is the HFC at Appalachian State.

  25. With the expertise the Neinas Sports Group has with college athletics, I would bet the Neinas Sports Group has dossiers on every college HFC and their staff members, available on a moments notice, to review candidates when a new HFC position becomes available. That is their business. The Neinas Sports Group completed a study of NT athletics. The Neinas Sports Group was retained by NT to be a consulant with the HFC search. The Neinas Sports Group knows Mike Canales! I would think, Canales has value to the Neinas Sports Group. The Neinas Sports Group is just like any other big business, having plans and directions in place, to keep the business running and to make money. I wonder if the Neinas Group has recommended Canales to North Texas? I wonder if the Neinas Group has recommended Canales to other programs? Now would this be a typical NT situation or what. Canales gets hired as a HFC at another school, while NT is trying to make up their mind.
