  1. Steve had two issues that kept him from being "great". He had a very strong and accurate arm...which led to him forcing passes. His TD to INT ratio was bad his senior year, though pretty good his junior year....when he had Joe Greene, et. al helping on defense (24 TD to 31 INT's in 1969; 24 TD to 17 INT in 1968). He also was the most immobile QB I have ever seen. He HAD to complete his passes, because he sure couldn't tuck it an run.
  2. It is a little disturbing in that he was not suited up, nor could I spot him in street clothes on the sidelines. Considering that we needed as many big bodies as we could get in the D-trenches Saturday night and had already burned his redshirt at FIU, his absence seems a real mystery. Maybe Vito can find out.
  3. Anybody know why true freshman, T. Brooks, didn't suit up or show up at the game last night? He played in the FIU game and we could have used another big body on the defense. Sick, injured, in the dog house????
  4. Don't get too excited. Following advice from a person who shall remain nameless.....Coach Mac is saving him for the last quarter of the final game of the season.
  5. Anybody with half a brain realizes that it is going to take at least 2-3 years to recover from the Dodge shipwreck. In the real world, when a coach inherits a depleted squad with years of poor recruiting decisions and even poorer coaching, there is no magic wand they can wave to make all that disappear instantly.
  6. Actually you couldn't unless you were truth challenged. OK we get it...you miss Dodge.
  7. So what is your point? You could look at 2nd half scores: FIU 10-North Texas 9; Mississippi State 28, Memphis-7; Clemson 30- Troy 3; Florida State 17-UL Monroe 3: Auburn 28, Utah State-17 AND SAY THOSE OTHER TEAMS ARE QUITTERS. You can prove anything with scores and stats and it means nothing. The only thing that will mean anything in the end is: 1. Did the team improve as the year progressed; 2. Are the coaches recruiting to get the talent they need; and 3. What is our record going to be 3-4 years down the road. That is where Dodge failed....he not only failed to improve in these areas, he regressed.
  8. In your "expert" opinion. I'm sure you think that TD left the pantry stocked and we have real superb talent to work with.
  9. There is absolutely no question that it will take time to turn this ship around. Anyone who thought otherwise has been drinking too much green kool-aid. I surprised that anyone thought that the game would be any different than it was. What I want to see is improvement through the year and an ability to find out who can and wants to play top-level football on the squad.
  10. That's a cheap shot. JC himself wouldn't have done much better. Get real folks...this ship is going to take time to turn around.
  11. Amen....been there, done that.
  12. Drew Miller, 2nd team at TE. Tyler Stradford running 2nd team at receiver, Jamize Olawae 2nd team at WR, Ayodele Adedipe 2nd teamd at RG, Nicolas Summerfield 2nd team center, Lincoln and White 2nd team on DL, Boutwell ahead of Abbe at DT. January 2nd at MLB. The rest of the chart looks pretty much like I expected based upon what news we have been able to get out of camp.
  13. There has been a rumor about a game this week. Actually, I think that a lot of people are waiting to see the "new" team under Coach Mac. There will be lots of talk after the FIU game, that is for sure.
  14. I tried to point out that McNulty was one of the big surprises this fall. I do not yet think that the Mean Green faithful understand what a gem they got in him and how much a role he will ultimately play in the Mean Green resurgence.
  15. More on our "future"? Quarterback: My link
  16. Sounds like late freshman QB recruit, Andrew McNulty, might be the real thing. Apparently, he has been impressing the coaches. From the UNT site: "McNulty threw for 1,438 yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior and added 1,137 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground. McNulty was named first team all-state by the Iowa Newspapers Association, IowaPreps.com, and the Cedar Rapids Gazette. He helped lead Iowa City to a 36-0 regular season record....He was the Iowa City Press-Citizen Offensive Player of the Year and was selected to play in the Iowa Shrine Bowl....He also served as the punter, averaging over 41 yards a kick last season. McNulty, a two-star Rivals.com recruit, has a brother, Ted, playing for Kansas, and his father, Jim played football for Iowa...Born on June 18, 1992."
  17. Don't know, but would love to see that happen, starting with FIU
  18. Glad to see Alex Lincoln doing well.
  19. It's not BS and Jim was very well connected to the program and he wasn't one to tell tall tales.
  20. A good friend and UT ex who was well connected at with the program there told me this later on. He said that when one of the refs was asked about the call, the ref winked and said that Cash was in the end zone by this much.....as he made a hook-em sign!
  21. Unfortunate, but a clear and welcome statement that Coach Mc is not going to play favorites. I feel sad for Darius. He is a very good athlete and I hope he can turn things around.
  22. good sense of humor, but the bottom line is that compared to most of the mistakes we've had here as coach, Dickey was a real winner. He, along with Mitchell, Rust (for a while), Corkey Nelson (when he was on) and Fry are the only ones who really helped the program by their presence here.
  23. Darn.....I thought you were going to name it the "Island Eagle" Bowl to reflect my giant donation that will come just as soon as I win the lottery!
  24. Jarman is playing for Cisco Junior College as a wide receiver.
