  1. Bingo. You hit the nail on the head. Frat or non-frat, if they come to the tailgate they need to come to the stadium and support THEIR school and team. Otherwise, they are part of a problem and not a solution.
  2. BUMP. Best news all day!
  3. Whether they win on the road or not is not the biggest issue right now. That will come with time. What is important is that this team has already tied most wins in a season ever during the Dodge era (error?) and have won three home games for the first time since the Dickey era. You've got to start somewhere and they are doing that. Road wins will come as the team gains confidence in its ability to win.
  4. I second that motion!
  5. Hmmm....wonder if they would ever try him out at QB?
  6. I think that the poll answers this question.
  7. Yes. Hiring Coach Mac was absolutely the right decision. He had more experience taking over a program that has been down for a long time and reviving it.
  8. Thanks for speaking some sense.
  9. Why shouldn't there be? Dodge was an unmitigated disaster. Why defend him or his tenure????
  10. Good article. Much better than some of the nonsense posted right after the game.
  11. Despite the whiners, any win is a good win. Even great teams have ugly victories. As has been pointed out, given the record the past few years, we should be happy with any victory at this point. That is the foundation. First, you learn to win the games you should win and then you learn how to win the others. What I liked best about the win is that the defense pulled it out. How long have we waited for a defense that could actually win a game or two...even against a mediocre opponent like FAU? I'm not saying you can complain, but for me, I am enjoying another "W"!
  12. I agree that Prohibition is probably the worst idea we have come up with in a long time. It didn't work in the 1920's and it isn't working now. It just perpetuates the problem and makes it worse. But, there is a difference between what is legal or decriminalized and what is wise. I doubt that having the team stoking up each night is a good idea and if a coach wants to enforce that, he has my blessing. We all (at least most of us) like to party in our own way and I criticize nobody who does so responsibly, but if it is affecting my job performance or job attitude, then it is time for me to adjust my priorities. The same should go for student athletes.
  13. Like that quote from Dan. That is what I want to see, also.
  14. We should, based on the usual need for new and young players to jell together, be peaking about the time the conference tournament appears. I think JJ will focus on building a team out of a bunch of individual talent in hopes that we will really have something by March. That might mean playing with rotations early...and all the problems that can bring.
  15. Good article...thanks SUMG> Would be nice if Sarge is a sophomore in eligibility.
  16. OK, give the guy a break. I grew up in Austin and even have degrees from there in addition to my degree from North Texas, but Mean Green is always first for me....even when they play the Horns. But...I have even known UT Austin alums and students who root more for other teams and I currently know a Baylor alum who is a big Longhorn backer...so we are not alone in this. Every school has some alums and students like that, but I doubt that they would admit it on their alumni/fan sports forum.
  17. I have to agree with your point as well. Given that a meal at even a mediocre restaurant will cost you $25 with drinks, the price is not way out of line. I understand that they may be only mildly interested in the team or the program and that is ok. I've known both students and faculty at really big football universities who couldn't tell you the first thing about their teams. It takes many types to make a world. But, it is hard to see how a $14 dollar difference in ticket price could turn away a solidly employed person who would truly like to see the game.
  18. Maybe the Sun Belt ought to be exploring options with MAC, CUSA, and the WAC. Not saying its a solution, but it is beginning to look as though conferences better hang together or they'll hang separately.
  19. Depending upon what you mean by this, I might agree or disagree with you. As a true freshman, there is no way he can be as ready for the college game as either. On the other hand, he has (according to those who know him best) those tangibles that you look for in a QB...mostly the ability to move the sticks and win games....something neither Thompson nor Osborn have PROVEN (not saying they don't or won't have it) to have yet. From what I have read, McNulty has a big upside in terms of being a real field leader. Not saying he will actualize that or even be our starter someday, but it is something I take VERY SERIOUSLY in rating QB's. I've seen too many QB's over my too long period of following football who had all the talent, but who just could not get the job done when push came to shove. And, I've seen lots of QB's, who on paper shouldn't even be playing, who were big time winners. QB is far more than just being able to throw a good pass. So, I say. Let's wait awhile before we make a final judgement on Thompson, Osborn or McNulty. As far as I am concerned, any of them could turn out to be what we are looking for....or turn into disappointments.
  20. The DFW area has never really supported the local college teams, which is why they are all basically on the outside looking in.
  21. Why do I keep thinking of the first line of Tennyson's Charge of the Light Brigrade: "Into the valley of death rode the 600"? Wish it weren't so, but in the current state of the program, I'm afraid we are asking the equivalent of our young men. All I can ask is that they acquit themselves with honor and determination and play as hard and well as they can. I look forward to the day when we visit a top 5 ranked team and can expect that even if they don't win, they are able to put one hell of a scare into them. Unfortunately, it is going to take time to get to that place. In the meanwhile, GO MEAN GREEN!
  22. Unfortunately, they can stick in the memory. I still prefer holding off on money games until we get some success again. But, that is my own personal preference. I was at the home openers against Indiana State (41-6), Nicholls State (23-0) and Abilene Christian (48-0). Frankly, I think they left the crowd feeling much better than a loss. Besides, the victory over Nicholls State was the win that kept the team together until they could get their act together in early October and work their way to the New Orleans Bowl in 2002.
  23. That is the hope and the belief among some of us right now. I am not surprised or disappointed that it is going to take some time. I wish it were otherwise. On the other hand, we have nowhere to go but up. Even UTEP, which at one point was synonymous with incompetent football (19 wins and 119 losses from 1973 through 1985, including 8 years with 0 or 1 wins and 4 with only 2 wins), managed to dig itself out some and even end up in a decent conference.
  24. Both Kansas State and Boise built their teams against weaker opponents. Boise began scheduling stronger teams when its program had advanced to the point where they could be competitive. I wish we would/could take the same approach. I differ on UT or A&M. Play them anytime. I look forward to returning to the point where we could give them a scare on the field, if not beat them. Fry, in his early days, had the benefit of playing teams such as UTA, West Texas State, and Drake (1973) and Lamar, Drake, West Texas State and Wichita State (1974). Those teams back then where equivalent to Texas State or Sam Houston State today in terms of competitiveness.
