  1. The bottom line is it is a good hire and there are people who will complain about anything.
  2. What you say makes a lot of sense.
  3. I agree. No coach in his right mind would jeopardize his salary or his reputation to put in a player out of friendship. I find the idea laughable. Would you jeopardize your job by hiring a worker to a key position who wasn't qualified (even the son of a good friend) when you know that your boss and backers are monitoring your own position very closely? Give Coach Mac some credit for both intelligence and integrity.
  4. Defensive Player of the year....very nice!
  5. Maybe we'd all be better off by praying in private like the Gospel recommends and get back to talking football on this site.
  6. People have to remember that this doesn't include any gray shirts, possible college transfers, and invited walk-ons....though I suspect that most of those would end up being skill position players, since most of the defensive line talent is already well scouted and recruited.
  7. Thanks for the link, Harry.
  8. I imagine that they are active and find it wise to keep it quiet at this point.
  9. I agree with you on this, but must add IF we do not get a really TOP-RATE DT recruit, then we should stick to high school. I've seen too many JC defensive linemen come in over the past 30 years who basically took up a scholarship and contributed little.
  10. thanks for sharing this.
  11. Not different from the University of Houston. Having lived in the area for longer than I care to admit as it would reveal my age, I can't tell you how many UH alumni I've met who could care less about the school's athletic programs. In fact, it is rare to find one who actually does. Nevertheless, the crowds turned out when the school produced a winner this year. Winning attracts the marginal fans. Win enough, long enough and the fan base will grow. OK to admit my age....I grew up in Austin and was at the UT-SMU game at the old memorial stadium in 1956 (when Ed Price's team went 1-9), when there weren't many more in attendance than we saw last Saturday. Obviously things changed there with the advent of Darrell Royal. Again, while winning alone won't automatically convert those who aren't interested in sports, it does help grow the fan base over time.
  12. Congratulations for packing the greatest numbers of cliches and stereotypes into one disjointed paragraph. It makes a good substitute for thinking. North Texas has a long-standing issue with alumni and fan support, but your approach is hardly the way to win friends and influence people. I understand your frustration, but venting your projections upon the rest of the world is unhelpful at best.
  13. Agree. A splendid way to end the year and set the tone for next year! GO MEAN GREEN!
  14. You seem to be around to whine about it.
  15. Regardless of the attendance, how long has it been since we've been on top with a score like this? Sure feels nice!
  16. Give Delgado a scholarship!
  17. I suspect he'll end up on defense. According to Friday Night Football, Brandon had 4 int.'s as a junior defensive back.
  18. And your point?
  19. I would love for North Texas to play in Houston and New Orleans every other year...and have another Texas team (UTEP in addition to Rice). We would actually get a little coverage in the Houston paper. As it is now, the Galveston paper covers North Texas better than the Houston Chronicle does.
  20. Personally, I find him to be pretty much on the mark. But, that is my point of view and I can understand how others may feel differently. I don't know if he loves DD or hates TD so much, but it is hard to say much positive about the prior 4 years and at least some positive things can be said about the DD era (four bowl games, crushing Baylor, etc.), though I think DD had reached the limits of what he could achieve at UNT. It's is hard to see how anyone would not think the glass is currently half empty/half full with the program at this point in time. Some positives....some negatives...lots of work to do.
  21. Obviously you haven't followed football for a long time. You'd have a better understanding of our situation and what it will take to turn it around. But, go ahead and whine if it makes you feel better.
  22. In fact to read their fan board, all the experts there think they know better than everyone else, including the coaches. Lots of armchair generals in this world.
  23. Exactly what is it then? Bad habits from the past few years? It sure looks like that to me. This team has spent the last 4 years playing passive, unmotivated. lazy football and you expect the team to be transformed in half a season?
  24. The next step in developing a winning program is the ability to win road games. Obviously, we are not there yet. But, we have taken the first step (winning games we should win at home) and I have every confidence that we will get to the next step (winning tough games on the road). Rome wasn't built in a day and the program won't be rebuilt overnight.
  25. totally meaningless statement.
