  1. One of the most aspects of early Fall camp is the first good look at the new players/signees. While it is a little too early, I want to hear who looks good, who came in out of shape, who is surprising and who is disappointing. Since we will be counting on this group a lot in coming years, I'm hoping that some really stand out and even make a push for playing time (such as we have heard regarding Jarrian Roberts). At any rate, hoping to learn a little more about how the coaching staff sees the freshmen, walk-ons and transfers.
  2. Sorry to hear this, both for the players and the team.
  3. I will be at the game with some friends (easy for me since I live in Galveston). Some are North Texas fans and some will be UH fans. It should be fun.
  4. That is good news indeed. Can't wait to see Watson, McDorman and Sir Wallace in fall camp.
  5. How did the game end up. Any info. on how our players did for the night (sacks, tackles, fumble recoveries, etc.?)
  6. Just a reminder that North Texas recruits will appear in the up-coming coach's association all-star game. In basketball, we can see Clarke Overlander play forward for the North on July 30 and in football watch Duston Watson and Dylan McDorman play DT for the North on July 31.

  7. Thanks for sharing. I've been waiting for that. I notice that it still doesn't include Dylan McDorman, whose gray-shirt was changed to a regular scholarship a couple of weeks ago. Is there still some doubt on this?
  8. I liked the ad and hardly saw anything to cause people to wet their panties. It's focused on Zach and his family connection to the Redskins.
  9. I agree, the Hamilton and Whitaker duo made for a great team and were lots of fun to watch. If they had more of an inside presence they would have been sweet 16 material for sure.
  10. How did Jarvis do? Here is a link written before the game. http://theadvocate.com/sports/preps/3092489-123/louisiana-all-stars-get-to-work
  11. Well, they are under the radar right now, but there are lots of players every year who are under the radar after their junior year, but whose stocks rise considerably after their senior year. That is the point. Why don't we wait and see how they perform and who is interested next winter before crying about the sky falling. Conversely, the college ranks are filled every year with 3 and 4 star recruits who had great junior seasons, thereby drawing lots of interest, but who fizzle when they reach college. It is a little crazy to get too excited either way about a kid who hasn't even had his senior season yet.
  12. Let's see how he does his senior season before worrying too much. I like the speed and size. The rest can be coached.
  13. Good point. Too easy to jump to conclusions.
  14. I consider Steele's magazine (Phil Steele's College Football 2012) to be the best of the bunch. He has been more accurate than most over the years that I have been reading him. Overall, he has mixed optimism about the Mean Green this year. He clearly thinks Dan is a very good coach, but the loss of Dunbar and some key defensive players give him some hesitation. Also, our brutal out of conference schedule. He states that "4 of his 9 sets of power ratings call for bowl eligibility, but they do not make my MIP (most improved program) list with LSU, K-ST and Houston on their non-conf slate". One other thing, he finished the article before he learned that Stojkovic was no longer with the team, so Michael was still listed as a starter at linebacker. The magazine also went to press, obviously, before the CUSA decision was made.

  15. Sounds promising to me, Harry. It would do a world of good to see Tevinn and Richard have breakthrough seasons this year.
  16. I was at that game in 68. I was too far away from the pass in question to make a judgement on it, but I knew we had probably lost the game when Steve Ramsey and Leo Taylor fumbled an exchange on the Arkansas 2-yard line, blowing an earlier scoring opportunity. I was sitting right near that area and could see the disaster unfolding as though it were in slow motion.
  17. We'll all be poorer for it, but I agree its the future. Many cities will not have daily newspapers in 10 years. So much for lounging around on the weekend with a cup of coffee and the newspaper!
  18. I agree. It is definitely hit or miss with most transfers. That is where good coaching evaluation comes in.
  19. I quit going to the Pourhouse and won't be back.
  20. I hate to be the first to mention this....but its Boone, North Carolina. A nice town nestled in the mountains near some ski resorts.
  21. I agree. If weirdos and football didn't mix, UT Austin would be perennial bottom dwellers.
  22. I agree....good news from the Prez, however, you stereotyped just about every possible student type at the university and you want the community to be "enthusiastic". People rarely conform to these easy characterizations. I've known business majors who didn't have the slightest clue who the football or basketball teams were playing and music majors who attended every game they could. Some Greeks support the team well, others don't. The same could be said of every "type" of student you could classify. How about just saying.....we invite all students to help elevate the university?
  23. Celebrate and have a great birthday.....you deserve it!
  24. That would be an interesting turn of events...to say the least.
