Congratulations To The 2007 Sbc Champions!
island eagle replied to UNTflyer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
What a way for Calvin to finish out his North Texas career! He never gave up and his hard work and patience have been rewarded. -
Well, for one, we have a good transfer-Collin Dennis, from South Florida.

Just keep those athletes coming in. One thing I'll say, the team matured as a whole during the last 1/4 of the season. Before then, they'd get rattled, lose confidence and just didn't seem to believe in themselves and then. WHAM, some light bulbs came on and they kept their cool (more or less) through the whole tourney and a lot of the mistakes I saw in the last two games were in part fatigue related, because all the teams were begininng to make them. The important thing, we didn't let it throw us when we did and we kept our hustle. Way to go guys!!

What Play Will Dodge Open With Against The Sooners?
island eagle replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
Whaaaaat! I think he should open with a draw play, followed by a run inside a tackle against 8 in the box. Why not confuse them? -
40 Minutes Left Before Dancing

We having been hitting our outside shots, but we still have won in the tourney. We'll look better IF we can get the outside shooting touch back. But, the team didn't look sharp mentally tonight, whereas they did in the last half last night. But, MTSU didn't look like they did last night either. I wonder if both teams weren't somewhat tired? -
Not significantly better. 2 of his teams shot better than 70% at the line with the 75-76 team coming in third in NT history with a .731 FT average. Ironically the best FT shooting team in our history came with Robbins as coach with .740. The team only won eight games. 3 of JJ's teams have shot better than 70%, which actually puts his teams pretty much among the top overall in FT shooting. I don't know what THIS year's team average is, but it has got to be way under 70%.

The 88 team could put on one of the more devastating full court presses that I've ever seen at North Texas and they got to the dance, so I'd have to day the 1988 team was better, though this team has more quality depth. On the other hand, neither of these two teams could top the Blakeley teams from 1975-1978 nor probably the Spika teams of 1968 through 1970. However, just having come back from seeing the game against ULM in Lafayette, I can say that this team has improved over the past couple of years and when they are playing smart and with enthusiasm are pretty good. When they are playing dumb and without much enthusiam they lapse back into mediocrity. I'm hoping that their new-found intensity will carry on through tonight and tomorrow night.

What about Kelvin Drake and Nick Foster. Won't they figure in also?

By far the best (most fun) basketball games I ever saw were in the pit in the 60's. While I like the "Super Pit", it has never had the atmosphere that the packed and noisy pit had.
-
They were independent from 1962-1971, a part of the Missouri Valley Conference from 1972-1982, independent in 1983 and joined the Big West in 1984.

Don't whine about sissies when you have the Crawford Coward and his incompetent crew botching up the War on Terror.
-
Any of those would be better than the fools bumbling around the White House right now.
-
Frankly, I'd like to Stickler at LB. I think that is his natural position.

What you say hits the mark. As they say: "The proof is in the pudding". The people in Austin can put all the spin on it they want, but the bottom line is your average joe and homeowner is taking it on the chin while govenor good hair and Craddick cavort with the lobbyists.
-
That may be correct, but I'm not convinced that Tune won't be a major player in all this. If he can show he is learning the system this Spring, then watch out.
-
We averaged 24.6 ppg in 1992 and ended up with a 4-7 record.

Charles, I had posted on that a while back. The former SLC player who went to Tx. Tech as a non-playing student is Michael Boydston 6-3 250 4.8 DE. He made first team 5-A all-state and had 55 tackles (48 solo), 8 tackles for a loss, 10 sacks and one interception his senior year.

Has Any One Noticed The Speed On Wr/rb,db Positions?
island eagle replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Sports
40 times are the most unreliable thing in football at almost any level. You see guys touted as 4.3 and 4.4 and then they go to the pro combines and can't crack 4.6 or 4.5. -
Tree Huggers Unite

I understand Jim. We have an 80 plus year oak in our front yard and 70 plus one in the back. I would be very upset if anyone or anything (like hurricanes) took them down. They're pretty and provide all-important summer shade. -
Lack Of Baseball Causes Nt To Lose Recruit Jason Martinson
island eagle replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
He sounded like a good kid, but I'm not all that upset. It opens up a scholarship and we were heavy at that position anyway. -
And that was before he had the year to mature and develop!
-
I'm expecting Tune to really develop under TD.
-
Yes. He played for Todd Dodge at SLC. Don't know why he is out of football. Maybe he didn't get an offer from a school he really liked and didn't want to walk-on. Maybe he just wanted a break. Maybe, some SLC fans could enlighten us.

Michael Boyston 6-4 250 4.8 (who has been out of football this year), may rejoin TD at North Texas. Boyston was 1st Team 5-A All-State DE and First Team All-Area Dallas. His senior year (2005), he had 55 tackles, including 48 solo, 8 tackles for a loss, 10 sacks and 1 int. He reportedly has been attending Tech as a student, but may come to Denton.
