  1. AMEN!!!! I will shout glory be the day we don't have to open in places like Baton Rouge. Of course, that is up to us alumni, supporters and fans. If we could average 25,000 to 30,000 a game, our need for "money games" would decrease dramatically and our ability to schedule good home and home series would increase.
  2. Of course, news hasn't leaked out about the Utah State locker room robbery the other day. Somebody stole all the playbooks and now they are trying to reconstruct the play from memory.
  3. No team wins consistently without at least decent defense. That looks like that is going to be the big challenge this year.
  4. The major problem isn't with the recruits, it is with the schemes (or lack of) and poor adjustments. That is something the coach is ultimately responsible for. I'm willing to to have some patience, but I do expect Mendoza to mature rapidly in adjusting to the college game.
  5. Well, that is changing. It's a new era at North Texas.
  6. Well, FAU tacked 585 yards total offense on Minnesota. We better have our defense ready, that is all I say.
  7. The bottom line is that is what we are all hoping for.
  8. I agree, but if the offense puts that kind of pressure on the defense, then defense better well be a top priority or you'll just have a bunch of high scoring losers. Not saying that is the case, but it will be if the defense doesn't jell and the last time I looked, that was Mendoza's job.
  9. Well I'm not pro-Dickey and was glad to see him go and I'm happy we hired Todd Dodge. But, at the rate we are going we have as much chance to set the record for lousy defense as we are to set offensive records. Scoring 30-40 points a game won't excite me for long if the opponents are scoring 40-50. I expect to see improvement for the FAU game on and I am shocked that anyone is content giving up 600 yards a game.
  10. Because giving up 600 yards a game is not acceptable. You can excuse OU, but 534 yards to SMU? NO. I don't want the reverse of Dickey, decent offense, 124th in defense. I want a competent offense and defense. Face it, Mendoza had 9 starters from a fair to average defense. We ought to expect more of him.
  11. I agree. Show me any QB throwing 60 plus passes in a game who doesn't get 1-2 picked off and have a bad throw or two.
  12. Thanks. That is what I had always understood, though I know there have been some instances of a university getting an exception for players who were in only 1-2 series for a season. Still, that is nothing that can be counted on. If I remember correctly, we asked for one (an exception) back a few years ago and were denied.
  13. Most coaches expect that. Either catch the ball or call fair catch and let the ball roll (hopefully) into the end zone. That's standard procedure.
  14. Me too, but rather than a victory (after all we won last year) I'd prefer to see dramatic improvement and I saw that. If this team keeps improving then I will be happy, regardless of the win-loss total THIS YEAR. Now, next year the only stat I might pay attention to will be wins, but I recognize that this inevitably is a building/development year.
  15. I hope there are some defensive players out there who realize we need a lot of help on that side of the ball.
  16. I can guarantee that anyone who makes 60 plus passes in a game is going to throw a few bad ones, even if they are Joe Montana. That comes with this type of offense. Where we really need to be worried is the defense.
  17. What I would want him to say is: "we made mistakes, didn't tackle well and generally played way below our expectations and abilities". If he can't say that with a straight face then he doesn't need to be starting, IMHO.
  18. As much as I would like this thread to go away, since it is really stupid to bash the band when we have so many other problems to address. But, I must admit I agree with you on this 100%. The music should be appropriate to the occasion. And, Mr. Williams, this feedback is not from someone who doesn't appreciate classic music. I and my wife have had season tickets to the symphony for years and try to make every performance. And, I enjoy it. But, I would no more want the orchestra there to play the Mean Green fight song than I want the Marching Band for our athletic program to play Bach and Beethoven.
  19. Should read "won't accept any excuse".
  20. I was disappointed in it. With an attitude like that, it will be miles to go before we have the kind of team we want. Maybe TD DOES need to bring in players who accept any excuse for losing.
  21. The 9 true freshman who played according to the official participation report on the UNT site (under "schedule/results") were: 1. BJ Lewis; 2. Giovanni Vizza; 3. Breece Johnson; 4. Sam Dibrell; 5. Kevin Ealey; 6. Thomas Moreland; 7. AJ Penson; 8. Jesse Desoto and 9. Micah Mosley.
  22. Your point might be valid, but if we don't develop double-team, stunting and the ability to disguise our defensive schemes soon, we won't be competitive at all this year. In my mind, they should have worked on that during the OU game, if they are planning to use them....and they better if they want to play 1-A football.
  23. Scott Hall was a redshirt, not a TRUE freshman. Pretty sure that Mitch was too. In any case, Wendall Mosley was the starting QB during Mitch's first year and it was several games into the season before he got much, if any, action.
  24. Absolutely. And, regardless of what anyone says, the ref's wouldn't thrown that flag in Austin if it was UT getting the onside kick.
