Such good reading!
-
It brought back memories of the Pit. Hope that tradition is returning to our beloved university!
-
I watched it with a couple of friends on PPV and I agree! Worth every cent. Only wish I could have been there!!!!!
-
Not as old as seeing it self-destruct under the new DC.
-
Knox scored 15 points last night as Grace Prep rolled over Rockwall something or other.
-
That's how I will watch it....on ESPN PPV. Wish I could be there instead.

U N T Defense Is The Worst, And It's Not Even Close
island eagle replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Yes, lets not be mindlessly critical. The punt receiver had moved up to help out against the possible run (as he should) and then backed up when the kick occurred. He had a very bad angle and would have had to field the punt over his shoulder inside the 10 with two defenders racing in on him. He ABSOLUTELY made the right decision. -
I had my nephews at the game Saturday (aged 10 and 12) for their first Mean Green experience. Before the game, they got a green and white football at the student bookstore with the idea of getting it signed. Despite the disappointing loss, they were able to get Isaac Thomas, Maurice Holman and Micah Moseley to sign the ball for them, much to the delight of the boys. Now that is real class and deserves congratulations.

U N T Defense Is The Worst, And It's Not Even Close

I REALLY, REALLY want Todd Dodge to succeed. But, that is not going to happen unless something dramatic happens on the defensive side of the ball. We could score a 100 points a game and still be losing with the defensive alignments and lack of adjustments that we have now. I would feel MUCH better if I actually saw more quality commitments on the defensive side. And If (after the season) Dodge brings in some experienced coaches on defense. Our offense can work. We desperately need help on the defense. I would be selling the fact that any defensive recruits will have a good chance to come in and start right away. We ought to be recruiting 2 defensive players for every 1 offensive player for next year. -
Defensive Historical Contrasts.
island eagle replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Rick, Don't try logic on this board. There appear to be some people who will excuse having the worst defense in the country with 9 returning starters. News alert: It isn't the personnel! I wear green glasses, but for heaven's sake, I don't believe in drinking sake and flying on kamikaze missions. -
Well as long as he keeps things the way they are on the defensive side, he'd better sit on the ball. And, I am not talking about the players.

Hey, slow down. We beat SMU and TCU in home BB attendance last night. We haven't done that too often in the past. Give people some time. I had two kids with me who wore out at the football game and couldn't make it to the basketball game. If it had been up to me alone I would have been there in a heartbeat. A number of folks in similar situations couldn't make a "double-header".

Jesus said it best: "Let he without sin cast the first stone".

It is actually better if you purchase a ticket at the gate. Tickets already purchased are already counted in the attendance. A new ticket ADDS to the attendance (now that schools are again allowed to count purchased tickets in their attendance figures).

It's not so much the bias of one particular newspaper as all, liberal, moderate and conservative press without reception. They much prefer to stir things up than to see them settled. If I had a dollar for every story on Fox, CNN, CNBC, ABC, etc that made allegations about something and then didn't really follow-up or admit that they were wrong when it turns out the allegations were false or misleading, I'd be a millionaire many times over. Press likes sensation. It attracts readers/viewers.

Nt Daily- Dodge Addresses Athletes Accusations
island eagle replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Everyone should understand that socioeconomic differences, cultural differences, race, prejudice and even different use of language can all result in miscommunication. Any head coach in this country is attempting to meld together people from very different backgrounds and it is not easy, either for the coaches or for young men meeting and experiencing some very different aspects of life while trying to make grades and compete in a sport. We need to give both parties the benefit of the doubt and hope that some positive resolution comes from this. The last thing we need is the team to split into camps, each convinced of the rightness of their side. Todd Dodge is the coach and he needs to be respected as such, but the learning goes both ways and it may take a little time for the coaches as well as the players to adjust to a new system. -
Ramone, thanks for your input. Someone has to be blind not to see that racism still exists and that not wanting to admit that is almost as big a problem as the racism itself. AND, thanks for recognizing that sometimes minorities would rather pull out the "race card" than admit any problem on their own part. In my view, they do their cause great harm in the same way that many whites do our country a disservice by denying that racism does exist. Sometimes minorities do have a valid point when they talk about it. Both denial and overuse of the race card only confuse the issue, not help to resolve it.

We're Playing For Next Season Now

Be careful. The though police think we should be blind to the elephant in the room. -
Rick, I agree. It is hard to bite my tongue seeing what we see out there. My glasses are greener than anyone's, but this is getting ridiculous. Fans can put all the spin on it they want, but the problems are clear for those not entirely intoxicated with their enthusiasm.

Fw*telegram Dodge Surprised By Offensive Struggles
island eagle replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
No flame from here. The blitz was as predictable as the sun rising in the morning. What is distressing is the lack of adjustments. -
Fw*telegram Dodge Surprised By Offensive Struggles
island eagle replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
One thing that appears certain is that Dodge is going to have to figure out how to keep us from being out-manned at the line in blitz situations, just like Dickey had to figure out how to cope with 8 in the box. Hopefully, Dodge will prove to be the more adaptive and creative coach. -

Drc Nt To Follow Troy's Style Of Play
island eagle replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Actually, TD is not following Troy's offense completely. Troy uses TE's on some occasions, some center snaps and even a two back set every once in awhile. I hope TD will copy Troy. -
Phil, you are absolutely correct. It's not a matter of the linemen per se. Without a TE or two-back set to offset the defensive advantage when they blitz, we are just as defenseless as DD's teams were when the opponents put 8 in the box against our obvious runs. HOPEFULLY, TD won't be as stubborn as DD in understanding that he will have to make adjustments to his offense to succeed at this level. If not, we can recruit all the offensive linemen in the world and our QB is still going to get worked over.
