  1. I notice that 3-star middle linebacker, Roderick Mackenzie (6-0, 250/4.7 40) of Mt. San Antonio in California still lists North Texas along with Iowa State and Oregon State as his college choices. Do we have ship to give? Seems we could certainly use another linebacker, especially a 3-star.
  2. New Mexico State played against 6 teams that average over 200 yards a game, including Hawaii and Boise State, who had a lot more passing yards than our opponents. Plus, a 7th opponent (Idaho) averaged just under 200 a game. Stats can be misleading.
  3. Parents who fly into a rage over their children's performance or a referee or coach, need to get a life ASAP. It's pretty pathetic to live ones life through the children.

  5. Yeah, they're so satisfied that there is a stampede out of the Republican Party (those facts are easy to find in every poll out on voter attitudes and voter registration). I live in a community where rich and poor, minority and majority live right next door to each other. You actually find out what people think about things like their economic that when you don't hide out in a suburb and don't live in a place where people are living above their means to impress the Jones. You say the deficit doesn't matter??? It's one of the three primary causes for the devaluation of the dollar...the other two are the trade imbalance and the unprecedented level of personal debt in this country. The US government has only three choices in dealing with this: 1. allow it to happen without trying to prop up the dollar (the course they have chosen because they don't have to take responsibility for it); 2. Do a formal devaluation (which is politically unpopular and is unnecessary if you allow it to occur) and 3> Allow our debtors (outside nations) dictate a devaluation and restructuring of our debt as we have done through the IMF with so many other countries. We have been informed in no uncertain terms that this would occur if we did try to prop it up. What we are getting is a slow adjustment to our real standard of living, which is considerably less than our "lived" standard....thanks to massive loads of credit and personal debt. Unfortunately, the days of propping up the standard of living with easy credit and high debt and over and the chickens are coming home to roost. Few politicians are touching this real issue, which is why Huckabee has hit such a nerve among the common people and why the Wall Street Journal (and Fox Network) have pulled out all stops to discredit him. Fox also doesn't like Paul, because they don't like true conservatives, they much prefer the kind that talk about fiscal restraint, etc/ while rewarding all their special interest groupies.
  6. I read the Wall Street Journal everyday so I am quite familiar with this kind of nonsense. Stats can be doctored to reflect any point of view. A few of us live in the real world and see how real people are doing, not ivory tower economists putting out carefully scripted stats designed to prove an assumption they have already embraced. Try talking to just about any middle class person you meet and ask them if they are doing better today than 10 years ago What those "stats" DON'T show, is stagnation in middle and lower class incomes, to just name one example. I know many people whose "effective" salary has been flat or negative for the past decade. Apparently a lot of other people feel the same way, because they are voting with that issue in mind (look at Huckabee's success with this issue) and it was reflected in 2006 and will be (I guarantee) in 2008. Speaking of facts. Reagenomics busted the budget (look at the yearly deficits under Reagan). Clinton brought them under control and Bush and the Repugs busted it again. You can talk about "tax cuts', but the inevitable decline of the dollar (due in large part to our deficit) is costing tax payers far more than any chump-change, "smoke and mirror" tax cut passed by calculating politicians who could care less about the growing deficit. But, far be it from me to try to dissuade you from you reverie. As far as I am concerned Bush and the Republicans can rule forever and you are welcome to reap whatever benefits you deserve. But, don't try to pass off you delusions as reality. I don't spend my time in gated communities or Highland Park, so I know what is happening to the average Joe. But, again, don't believe me. Let's just see what the voters think about your "great economy". As for me, I am well-invested to guard against most eventualities. I made money under Reagan, both Bushes and the Clintons, got out of dot.com's before the crash (my philosophy is to avoid going where the fools are heading) and sold out my real estate holdings two years ago. Good luck my Mean Green friend. May you get what you want.
  7. That's totally absurd. Carter inherited the recession and the inflation from Nixon/Ford, or have you forgotten Nixon's attempts at "price controls", the double-digit inflation EVERY single year of Nixon and Ford's reign. Or have you forgotten how Reagan turned Hamas into a force by "turning tail" in Beirut when Hamas bombed the Marine barracks there. He did more to prove "terrorism" works than anyone. Opps....sorry. I forgot EVERYTHING is the Democrats fault. Thank God we had 10 years of Republican rule in both houses and a Republican president for the past 7 years. The past 10 years have been REALLY good for the USA and the economy. Things have never been better. We should elect Bush for life and just put the Republicans back in charge of everything again. They did such a great job.
  8. I'm just glad that TD made the necessary, if not hard, decision in this case. The good of the program has to be the main concern of the coach.
  9. While I feel for Mendoza and his family, it was a decision that needed to be made and I am encouraged that Dodge made this, undoubtedly hard for him, move. Now lets get a real college-level defensive coordinator and get rolling!
  10. Racism in all its guises is a complex issue. It's difficult enough to discuss unemotionally even when all the other factors that cloud the issue (economics, cultural differences, etc) aren't thrown into the mix. If we are honest, we all have some racist attitudes or stereotypes. The important thing is to recognize them and understand where they come from. I am old enough to remember the "white only" drinking fountains, bathrooms, waiting rooms, etc. I know Korean vets who were told that their children couldn't go to the local school because of their skin color. I am happy those sad days are mostly gone. I'm fortunate to live in a city where black, white, hispanics and asians live side by side and where you can have rich people and poor people living next door to each other. It does promote some degree of tolerance and understanding that you don't always find in some places. It is not perfect by any means and tensions do exist, but at least we don't have the hysteria that you find in some places. But, personally I would much live in this environment than in those "gated communities" where everyone is expected to act and look the same. The good thing about sports, the military and even many places of employment is that racial stereotypes can become completely meaningless. If someone is shooting at you, or blocking out a blind-side tackler, or stabilizing you in an ER, it doesn't matter what race, creed, political, or sexual orientation they are. All you care about is that they do the job. Whenever I find myself lapsing into stereotypes (of any sort) I try to remember that.
  11. This is a young team and it is early in the season, so I expected some of this. But, you are right. Our ability or inability to handle the zone will determine how the rest of this season goes. Every team will test us at it until we figure out how to beat it.
  12. Trust me, this fellow won't be around long.
  13. A Florida man was arrested after trying to open a bank account with a million dollar bill. Not even considering the fact that the U.S. has never printed a $1 million dollar bill, it was a poor forgery. This just came through on A.P.
  14. This was a big win for our seniors! I'm so proud of them and the team. I'm so proud of the seniors and the team. Thanks for your effort, which paid off in victory. Go Mean Green. tahn
  15. Buford. Thanks for the excellent update. Sounds promising to me. He will have most of this year and next year, both to mature and to gain some weight. He may not be an All-American, but may fit into our type of offense very well.....especially if he has a good power forward to assist with the inside game.
  16. I was worried about this game from the get-go. UTA is a good team and returns 5 starters. We are still in the process of creating a new team with different players. Hopefully, JJ and the coaches can use this as a learning experience.
  17. Like all our politicians also.
  18. Check your e-mail.
  19. Nobody was recruiting Hogans either and he looks like he will be a pretty decent player once he gets a year or two under his belt.
  20. I sure hope so. UTA returns 5 starters from a decent team.
  21. He had 15 points the other night against a Rockwall team. There could be many reasons for a 6 point night from foul trouble, illness to a simple lack of a need to take the ball inside (if the guards on his team are as good as advertised).

  23. We were in the Missouri Valley Conference with Cincy and Louisville for many years.
  24. That's all I am going to say.
