  1. A new stadium enhances the credibility of the program and that is good in many different ways.
  2. What are you going to say when Tulsa gets whipped by UAB this weekend?
  3. Yep. We had about the same number of fans as the total sum of IQ scores for the so-called "city" of Tulsa.
  4. I certainly remember University of Houston 100 Tulsa 6 (and on National Television). Must off been a black day in T town.
  5. In addition: If you want to go where the locals go: DiBella's on Avenue P near 31st Street. Great Italian food, but you'll need reservations on the weekend. Also, New Madrid on Postoffice if you like Tapas, Rudy & Paco's on Postoffice at 21st, if you like Central/South American food, but you need reservations and it is pricey. Also, on 24th is M&M, upscale and pricey, but also a locals favorite (AVOID MOST PLACES THAT CATER MOSTLY TO TOURISTS). The Mediterranean Chef on Strand is good and a local favorite. The Press Box on 24th is a great Burger/sports bar that is a local's hand-out. If you like Cajun/informal-Benno's is a long-time local favorite on Seawall near 12th Street.
  6. North Texas has posted its game notes for the Kansas State game. Among those listed in the two-deep are two freshman (one redshirt) DT's--Jordan Scoggins and Troy Franklin. Jamel Jackson is running second at WR and listed as a kick returner and plenty of new defensive backs on the two deep.
  7. Jamel Jackson will be playing this fall and should make a big impact with the team.
  8. During the 1960's, Kansas State was the epitome of football incompetence. In that decade, KSU's record was 18-80-1. They had no winning seasons and had three years with 0 wins. Don't know the significance of that, other than even the most downtrodden program can change its image and record with the right coaches and support.
  9. And that is where the Top 50 teams have it over the others. Their linemen can do that AND weigh over 300 pounds. Otherwise, sometimes weight (if it makes you slow) is actually a detriment. Some 1-AA teams have big linemen, but they are SLOW!!!
  10. We do NOT play Air Force at home next Sept. 12. You can check their 2009 schedule on the official site and it is complete with no North Texas game listed.
  11. That's just a revision of the old single-wing attack, which in effect, used two QB's. The difference being, the single wing usually had one or two more backs with one of the extras moved away from center, but behind the line like the old wing-T offense.
  12. I'm trying to keep up with all the football news, but we have a little storm named Edouard moving our way and I have plenty to keep up with. I'm enclosing links to my various weather sites for those of you who like to keep up with such things: http://www.galveston.com/weather/ http://galvestondailynews.com/blog.lasso?b...ab33b0cc3342b11 http://community.galveston.com/blogs/weath...exas-coast.aspx
  13. Five North Texas recruits will play in the T.H.S.C.A.'s all-star game televised on FoXSW tomorrow night at 7:30 pm. For the north, Desmond Brigham (#6) will play at WR, Riley Dodge (#10) will play at QB, Aaron Fortenberry (#79) at OL and Darien Williams (#9) at CB. For the south, Royce Hill (#6) will play CB. Should be a good chance to preview some of our future stars.
  14. If I fault TD for one thing it is this. It was obvious that this was a big need area when he took the job. It hasn't been addressed and now will take a miracle for us to pull it out. Maybe some of the unproven returning players will suddenly blossom and maybe our current crop of signees (on the defensive line, both inside and out) will turn out to be real surprises and MAYBE I will win the mega-lotto, but I don't base my financial planning on it. There are some indications that this next recruiting class will focus more on defense. Unfortunately, it is about 2 years too late.
  15. One option (too late for this season) will be to recruit more defensive linemen. That need was apparent from the day TD got here and it hasn't been addressed yet. I like WR's , but they do need a little bit of a supporting cast.
  16. Chris Brainard (WR) and Darien Williams (SS/QB) are scheduled to play in Saturday's Oil Bowl game in Wichita Falls. Anybody going to make the game?
  17. The Boise Bowl is probably the worst post-season destination of all.....and there are some good candidates.
  18. That's the kind of attitude I want to see in all our programs.
  19. Sean Warren is a talented Texas City h.s. player who signed with Blinn last year and played as a freshman. Since this is his sophomore year coming up. I assume the signing is for the 2009 class.
  20. You hit the nail on the head. Bottom line....good publicity. The more attractive Denton becomes in general (socially and culturally) the more North Texas and TWU will benefit. Young people flock to places perceived to have some allure.
  21. Perception tends to become reality. Hey this is good publicity for both the city and the university.
  22. Today's New York Times (which can be accessed on line if you sign up) has a big article on Denton. Of interest to Mean Green fans are such quotes as: "And whenever the local college football team plays at Fouts Field, the entire town seems to put on Mean Green T-shirts." and "Not bad for a college town of 110,000, prompting more than a few music industry insiders to call Denton the next Austin."
  23. I agree. They seem like excellent hires to me.
  24. The poor guy needs to be locked up for his own protection. Obviously he is totally incapable of making it in the "free world".
