Vito Blog On Current State Of Men's Basketball
island eagle replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I never thought that the team would be really ready this year. I think that next year is our year. The players we have coming in, plus Knox with a redshirt year, will provide much of what we need in making this a more complete team. I mostly want to see the younger ones this year grow as the season progresses. -
Is It Realistic To Hope For A Long Term Coach?
island eagle replied to oldguystudent's topic in Mean Green Football
Those days seem gone. What we need is a Bill Yeoman, who loves the school and spends a successful career there because of that, despite having other offers. Unfortunately, we do not see many who have that kind of devotion anymore. -

CAN HE PLAY DEFENSIVE TACKLE!!!!!!!! -
BINGO!! Maybe when he plays defense he will get more playing time. The game doesn't stop on the defensive side of the ball.

Jacob Holmen Additional Info...a Good Signing For Nt
island eagle replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I think JJ did pretty good finding Hogans and I think that Holman will be an asset. He's fast, can rebound well and shoots well. Plus, he is young and will grow some between now and his freshman or sophomore year. Plus, he has more than held his own in a good basketball district. -
Holman scored 17.1 ppg and he had 8.1 rebounds a game, according to Texas Basketball. Seems like a good pick-up to me.

Unt Taking A Risk In Letting Miller Walk

Justin Wells, 6-4 285 4.9 was second-team All-Jayhawk Conference at DT, despite playing on a 1-9 team. Sounds like he might be a good pick-up for us. -
Sun Belt Bb Exhibition Results
island eagle replied to Buford_Julep's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Since he has so many new players and needs to see what combos click, I hope he does empty the bench. -
Add to that some poor decision in the post-Dickey era and I'll agree with your reply.

Authorities have raised alarms about a mind-altering chemical allegedly used by Mean Green fans prior to football games. The chemical, CH3,CH2,OH, dubbed “liquid heroin” by a county sheriff investigating reports of fan involvement, has been known to cause wild, boisterous behavior in North Texas supporters. The fan-performance boosting chemical, can cause a temporary surge in enthusiasm and optimism. This “up” phase, unfortunately, is soon followed by depression and lethargy as the effects of the drug wear off and the results on the scoreboard become apparent. When informed of this serious issue, administration officials would only respond cryptically that they are “looking into the matter”. “When the going gets strange, the strange turn pro”— Hunter S. Tulsa used a TE on some plays last night.

I agree that it wasn't nearly empty enough to justify what we are seeing on the field. I hope some serious reevaluation goes into this coming off season or we will easily see the worst three years in North Texas football history. In other words, it will time to for Coach Dodge to do some serious tinkering the the entire operation from the top down. No excuses accepted next year.
-
Absolutely, it is their right to voice an opinion in an editorial. I am disappointed by the total lack of vision. This lack of vision has been the biggest thing holding North Texas back. I hope students will see the bigger, long-term picture and vote in their (and our best interest) by supporting a project that has a significant impact on our image as a university.

No. Then it will be time for a new coach and AD.

Rod Rust was a decent coach, but a lousy recruiter. When he ran out the talent he inherited when he took over as coach, his record went south.
-
I don't know if this is true or not, but a fan at the Rice game who claims to know DeLoach, told me that Cantly is going to be the beast we need in the defensive line. Unfortunately, Tevinn is so "green" ...no pun intended, that he needs a redshirt year and maybe one more of experience before he can really make a presence, but it was comforting to hear something positive about the future.

Ways To Keep Attendance Up For The Rest Of The Season
island eagle replied to oldguystudent's topic in Mean Green Football
Or, like the last days of the Third Reich, free cyanide capsules for any attendees who cannot stand what they are seeing. -
Nt Running Out Of Wr's, Would You Believe Nt
island eagle replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
We've got several who could be converted to WR. It is still hard to believe with the numbers we signed that we would be hurting at that position. That's a lot of wasted scholarships. -
At this point in time, it is an open question in my book on whether he deserves credit or blame. Until TD proves he can best Dickey's record, it is all talk and nothing else. I hope he can and hope he will, but he (like every other coach) will ultimately stand or fall on his record, regardless of who gets the blame or credit.

Give Coaches A Break And Players

If the sky isn't falling then Ike was only a tropical depression and ten years of deregulated greed on Wall Street haven't hurt the economy. -
Give Coaches A Break And Players
island eagle replied to greenblooded43's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm sorry, but I just cannot buy this. Sure they are good. I even expected that they might lose all four, but what I have seen on the field is worse than bad. Rice is not 77-20 GOOD. It is not a matter of winning, but of putting an ACCEPTABLE product on the field. I have been watching the Mean Green since 1959 and this is the WORST team I have ever seen. Do I hope they get better--YES! Do I expect they will improve--YES. But, even with my green colored glasses, I cannot put a positive on what I have seen this season. As far as I am concerned, I will be the first to congratulate them when I see something decent out of this team. Until then, I won't buy the spin a few are trying to put on this situation. -
As one who took time off from dealing with a storm-damaged home in Galveston to come to the game, I feel I have to say something about what is arguably one of the worst games I have ever seen from a North Texas team. I've been a Mean Green fan since the early 60's and have been through a number of valleys and peaks with this team over the years. I have to say that this is the deepest, darkest valley I have ever seen. I sure hope that the darkest hour does come right before the dawn, because we really need to see something positive soon! From my perspective, I will never abandon the program. I've shed too many blood, sweat and tears over it to quit now. But, if I don't see dramatic improvement between now and the middle of next season, I will be joining an anti-TD lynch mob. I don't want to do it and hope I don't have to, but folks, we have got to see something turn around. If TD can't get the ship righted and headed in the proper direction by next October, then we may just have to find someone who can. As I said, I hope it doesn't come to that. I'm willing to bear through this lost and forgettable season, but this staff needs to get something positive in place by the end of next September or just admit that they are not up to the job. That's all I am going to say on the subject. I'll support the team this year regardless of what transpires and will be hoping to see some good recruits and competition in the spring and early next fall. Now it is up to those in charge to make it happen!
-
I am planning to be there, assuming the Island doesn't float away between now and then!
-
Hopefully, TD is learning that college coaches catch on quickly and if you don't make adjustments you will be shut down. It started happening after the Navy game last year and has continued into this year. To give TD credit, he has made some adjustments. But, it is apparent that he needs to make more.

Would A New Stadium Really Make A Difference?
island eagle replied to Green to the Bone's topic in Mean Green Football
Because having a decent stadium reflects on your image as a program which affects recruiting, which eventually affects the amount of success in the win column. No it is not a panacea, but having inadequate resources are like trying to fight a heavyweight match with one hand tied behind your back. Sure, it can be done, but most often it leads to failure. I, frankly, find it hard to comprehend why this simple point is so difficult to grasp. Or to make it simple... try running a restaurant that looks old and run down and competing with one that is new and well-cared for. Sure, you still might succeed, but you aren't making it easy on yourself.
