  1. I guess that Florida hired to coach defense because he is just a terrible coach and Florida doesn't have the money to hire good coaches.
  2. BINGO! Thanks for clarifying this for some of the fan base.
  3. I agree. This is good for Collin and I thank him for the time and energy he gave to UNT. There is a difference between transferring to pursue a particular degree and quitting. We've benefited from such transfers in both football and basketball and hope we do in the future as well. Good luck, Collin!
  4. HE'S JUST TURNING MEAN GREEN WITH ENVY.
  5. I'll take the spirit any day over apathy. It will be nice to get to the point where we don't do this, but it is even nicer to see enthusiasm. So, I say let the students have their celebration.
  6. Now the younger fans have a glimpse of what the Old Pit was like.....same atmosphere....at almost every game. Maybe we can get that going more often here, now.
  7. Yes....but....anyone who can take so bad and make it better is worthy of strong consideration.
  8. It's Southland West.
  9. It's Southland West.
  10. You have to be impressed with the team and impressed with what Canales has done with what he has
  11. I'd be willing to bet the poor guy is bi-polar and will treatment sooner rather than later. Hopefully he will get some.
  12. Normally, coaches with a team record such as we have at this point in the season begin to focus on next year. As such, they start utilizing the younger players and those players who will return with an eye to finding out who will contribute most to building the team in the future. This would make sense for Canales as well. But it is also important for him to show what he can accomplish if given the reins....which means he must pay a lot of attention to getting the most out of his experienced players, including those who will be gone after the season ends. I understand it is a juggling act and ideally you'd like to accomplish both goals. But, in my experience coaches usually will favor one approach over the other. It will be interesting to see what Canales does under these circumstances.
  13. I will miss him indeed. Some of my fondest memories are of watching the Blakeley teams play. I certainly hope they do a tribute for him.
  14. I agree. Wish it had worked, but it didn't for a host of reasons. Most people I know liked him as a person and wish him well in his future endeavors. As for UNT. It is time to move on.
  15. You are right. UH is not going to be a pretty start for our new stadium.
  16. Some folks need to go back at look at the whole sequence with TD. First off, that first and second year, players from other teams were laughing at our "high school" offense and defense. The head coach did NOT HAVE TO go with this...he CHOOSE to do so against the better judgment of those who remember the Parker era. Second, he CHOOSE to delay taking the job rather than begin recruiting when everyone else was on the trail. Third, his teams, even this year, continue to make the same mistakes as they did when he took over....there has been a pitifully slow learning curve on special teams, dumb penalties, poor time outs and play selection. That kind of think will kill even teams with lots of talent. If we don't want to end up playing with 2,000 people in the stands then there better be a big change. The die-hards on this board may be there, but I know lots of fans who are totally turned off and it shows up in the attendance.
  17. We can argue this till the cows come home. You can look at the stands and see how most people feel about the need for change or not.
  18. Well said and to the point.
  19. If he wants to keep any fan base at all, he better make the decision based on what is best for the program and not what is best for one particular person.
  20. Yes....according to some accounts we have had 15 starters on both sides of the ball. The biggest flaw in this whole scenario is that special teams stank before the injuries took such a toll and the team made stupid mistakes and penalties before as well. In other words....it didn't look all that promising early on and now the chickens have really come home to roost. If we continue as is with the losses then this program is going to lose a lot of support.
  21. I would think that Blaine and Teegarden would be the obvious back-ups.
  22. MY MANTRA FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON: "JUST RUN THE BALL!!!!"
  23. I do not know if it will or won't be, but I do know that one victory over a Sun Belt team does not constitute a major turnaround or performance the the level even a mediocre program expects of a fourth year coach. If we see five or six more of those then I would be willing to hop on the train. Until then, congratulations on the win to both the players and the coaches.
