    It's in the high 30s and it has stopped raining for the day. Everyone needs to grow a pair and get out there.

    Yeah, but Beckman is 5-17 through his first 22 games where Mac was 9-13 here and 3-19 at Iowa State. Not too different. I don't know how he thinks, but I would hesitate to drop something I'm in the middle of building for a whole new project where it's nearly guaranteed I'll be out on my ass in a couple years. Honestly I don't think Illinois contacts him in the first place given his age and the fact that his turnarounds are not immediate. Maybe there's another reason they want to get rid of Beckman that isn't apparent by looking at his record.

    He'd be a fool for listening when the Illini might be firing their coach after just his second season. Mac might be able to do better at that school, I don't know, but here he can pretty much coach into retirement here so long as he goes to a bowl game every 2-3 years. If he continues the upward trajectory of the program, there's gonna be a lot more attractive options than Illinois in coming years.

    If he left over attendance, that would be petty since 1) he has only been winning games consistently since a little over a month ago, and 2) this is a mid-major and he knew that when he signed on. One day attendance could be crazy enough to add another tier on the student side, and we may be a member of the Big XII or SEC*, but that's not today and we're nowhere even close to that. Same as TCU, that would take 10+ years of 0-2 losses per season, consistent top 25 rankings, and a Rose Bowl or equivalent victory. Today we're an improving program with pretty decent attendance after everything we've gone through.

    So then, by your definition, if we got a recruit that also had offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, Colorado, and Texas Tech, we must be the best football program out of that list. We're also the best basketball school out of Baylor, Kansas State, Marquette, Missouri State, and Oklahoma State. I learned something new. The closer we get to game time, the more I feel like UTSA won't bring that many people. It's something to do on a Saturday in San Antonio, but that's most likely the extent of their fandom.

    Winning out on a recruit or two doesn't reflect one way or the other on a program. Arguing that it does is indicative of someone who is new to college sports.

    Unless it's rush hour, going north is rarely ever the problem. It's coming back down 35W that will have you waiting a while once you hit about Heritage Trace.

    Gotta hope for ECU to lose to NC State. If they win, then they're gonna pick up some more votes, and then it might not matter whether they or Marshall win. Both would have a higher ranking than us if we win the west.

    I've seen nothing to show that as being the case. They lost to UCF, which turned right around and pulled out a W today on a last second field goal against Temple (Idaho's lone win this year). Personally I think we'd win, but at the very least I'd call it an even match.

    Started off at UTD for a semester and hated it enough to take four years off from school. Decided that I wanted to get a big time college feel (vs. UTD's commuter school feel), but wanted to remain in DFW. First football game ever was Baylor in 2003, so I just assumed that tons of people came to UNT games every week. Fell in love with sports enough to go to all the football games and start tailgating for basketball games. Still here 10 years later, even with a couple hiatuses for personal reasons.

    I'm rooting for Marshall. In the chance that we win out and go to the CCG, Marshall winning out means the game would most likely be played in Denton.

    Good post. My point was more towards those saying "little Sun Belt championships" and so on. I have no problem cheering for your team when not a lot of other people do, I'm a North Texas and a Rangers fan (going back to the 80s). What I take issue with is some of the UTSA fans belittling a school's accomplishments simply because they're at the same table. UTSA has a long ways to go to matching UTEP in accomplishments, even with how down that program is at the moment.
