They'd do a lot better with a campaign emphasizing that you can stay in the DFW area while still getting a major university experience. That's why I went.

Boise proves why a signature win is so necessary
ColoradoEagle replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
We had 22,000 for Idaho. If they brought 25 fans, I'd be shocked. Also remember the last time this happened (2006), we were pounded by UT-Austin the week prior to having over 25k at Fouts for the SMU game. That was coming off a 2-9 season the prior year. Given the excitement coming off of last season, and that SMU will travel a decent number, a sellout is likely. -

Seems more like a soccer stadium than football. Should be a huge difference from the Superdome, tho.

I'd still love to see a Tapatalk option.

Just got word from Conference USA that the #MeanGreen football game vs. La. Tech has been moved to Thursday, Sept. 11 to accommodate TV. — Eric Capper (@Eric_Capper) March 31, 2014

Either a one off, or one and one. Split the gate/concessions and call it a day.

I've never understood this thinking in the quotes above. As a Mean Green fan in Ft. Worth, it is not my job or responsibility to ensure that the event is highly attended. That's the marketing department's job. I would bring myself and try to bring another person or two, but not offering the event at all because I and other FW fans can't bring 10 people each is a ridiculous notion. As for attending the other events, that would essentially turn into taking a half day off from work, which is asking too much from your average fan.
-
I really think they need to work with a location somewhere in Alliance to set up an event for the area. Some people will drive to Denton, but you're not going to get the majority driving up there. Fort Worth, Keller, Southlake, NRH, HEB, Burleson, Crowley, Roanoke, etc. Way too many potential fans to completely ignore.

Not many showed up after almost a decade of losing. There's no telling what the turnout would be this year without showing up. The only way to guarantee the turnout is not to offer it, which is another bright idea by this AD.
-
The best, and easiest, way to grab some attention is to get the businesses (especially car dealerships) along 35 to have visible support on game days. A suggestion I made a long time ago to the AD, which I doubt was ever followed up, was to talk with Classic Mazda about either putting a battle flag below or in place of the US flag on game days. Little things like that, all up and down that road once you enter town, would grab some attention from drivers. Also made the same suggestion about having flags up on the square on game days since the equipment is already in place for 4th of July, Labor Day, etc. Apparently these types of things require more than the zero amount of effort our "marketing department" is capable of, so it's a moot point.

Uni Design - for those who enjoy it

Long pressing on it works on the Surface. Maybe the same works on iPad. -
Agreed on time for RV to go. His coaching hires somehow only turn out well in non-revenue sports, his staff doesn't seem held accountable at all for poor performance, and now that Apogee is built, I don't see any clear vision from his department. I know they dream of filling Apogee and the Super Pit, but it does in fact feel like a dream and not a goal. He's a nice guy, but he's been in over his head for a while now. Oh...and fire Benford.

Never thought we'd get stuck with both Florida schools in a single scheduling year. By the time it's cool enough for casual fans to come, the sale becomes, "Come see us play Florida Atlantic University and then Florida International University." Yuck.

Looks like about half a dozen FSN games left. Thanks.

Is it just my imagination, or does CUSA have absolutely no basketball games televised nationally outside of the occasional game on CBS Sports (a channel most don't get)? Frustrating given how decent the football coverage has been.

The two teams are pretty similar based on the BCS rankings. A match-up between the two would have been interesting this year. I put UTSA in as #90 in the BCS rankings as they're not officially ranked, that just seems about right. North Texas Average Loss - 66 Average Win - 86 Worst Loss - 90 (UTSA) Best Win - 33 (Rice) Houston Average Loss - 27 Average Win - 88 Worst Loss - 40 (BYU) Best Win - 33 (Rice) UH had no games against teams ranked between 40-81, so it's really difficult to determine their ceiling. While they also edged out Rice for a win, that's their best win until you get to #82 Rutgers. UNT had wins against #33 Rice, #35 Ball State, #70 Middle Tennessee, and #74 UNLV.

This is not us going against Alabama. We'll have to do better than we did in Athens this year, but this is a team that's now tasted success instead of just believing in it like the team that went to Georgia. The talk of this being an 'unwinnable' game is ridiculous. "Big" teams get beat every year by FCS schools, let alone FBS. Charlie Strong is not Superman. All you have to do is look at bad losses last year to UConn and Syracuse to confirm that.

Think Iowa State may regret having fired Mac?
ColoradoEagle replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Most would have been for keeping DD around longer except for his constant badmouthing of the school (accurate or not, it was in poor taste), and the fact that we were laughably non-competitive in OOC games. Had DD coached during the Dodge years, the results would have been pretty similar. The Sun Belt that DD took behind the woodshed was nowhere near what the league has developed into the past few years.- 45 replies

SMU SMU Fans discussing the 2014 UNT game
ColoradoEagle replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I've actually met a lot of good, nice people from that school, but none of them were fans. There must be something that comes with being a Pony fan that turns someone inside out. All but a handful of their fans are just obnoxious. Our big game next year is in Austin. The SMU game is for local interest/recruiting.- 50 replies
