Are we now one of the big boys?
ColoradoEagle replied to NorthTexan95's topic in Mean Green Football
Beating a P5 school doesn't itself get a G5 school good exposure. It's consistent winning and showing up in bowl games they aren't supposed to be in. That was the case for Utah, Boise State, TCU, Louisville, etc. That statue of liberty play against Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl made Boise State. -
Five observations from the Mean Green win over SMU
ColoradoEagle replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Paraphrasing what untjim said, we had (being generous) 12 years where we 'didn't have football' (1-AA). If you count it all the way up to DD's first NO bowl, that's 18 years. 12-18 years of a very tiny percentage of students from that period who still follow the program and a tiny percentage of people who graduated before that period who continued to follow the program. Then add in the last couple DD and all Dodge years. That's 6 more years of awful football that did no favors in building or retaining a fan base. So in the past 32 years, 18-24 of those years (and honestly probably more) there was very little to build/retain a fanbase. If you think about that for a second, that means that roughly 75% of anyone who attended UNT in the past 32 years had no reason to be fans of the program while they were attending. That's 75% of anyone in DFW with UNT ties who are 50 years old or younger. I do think we can build a fanbase, but it's not hard to see how we lost so many potential fans. -
Has there ever been a video posted or some images that show the entire athletic center? I've walked the halls and seen the weight room and rehab room, but that's about it.

Glad our AC/DC fascination is over with.

They really tried to sneak that in there under the Ray Rice story.
-
UTEP -11.5 favorites over NMSU Tulsa @ FAU (Even) Marshall -20.5 favorites over Ohio Old Dominion -16.5 favorites over E. Michigan Could very easily move to 10-1 or 11-0 against G5.

Five observations from the Mean Green win over SMU
ColoradoEagle replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
You don't just have one winning season after eight years of losing and pack the stands. Beating SMU like we did will have some people coming back/out for the first time. Going to another bowl game, winning CUSA, beating Iowa, beating Tennessee, beating Florida, etc. All of that would/will boost attendance. On top of that, we need a marketing department that knows what they're doing. They're very good at bringing out people who are pretty much already going to come out anyways. They've never been good at getting the word out to people who aren't that close to the program. On the podcast with RV, when the question came up, he basically said we don't have enough money to spam television and radio ads, and that if SMU couldn't get people out by spending millions, we couldn't either. Unfortunately, I really think that's the mindset over there: Either post it to social media or make TV ads...those are our only options. I live 25 miles from the stadium, and I can tell you exactly how many schedule posters I've seen in the restaurants around Alliance Town Center. Hint: It's zero. -

Me too.

Every single local news station ran footage of us commenting on how we pounded our rival SMU. The DMN had two pages dedicated to it. It was worth it.

Five observations from the Mean Green win over SMU

Out of the five turnovers observations I witnessed, this was the best. -
DRC Monday column: No denying it now -- UNT, SMU rivals
ColoradoEagle replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
UTEP may be bad historically, but they have an ardent fan base. SMU is a step below UTEP. -
Bought one for the first time in years. They print stuff I want to read and they sell a paper. Magical. Would have bought a startlegram if the coverage was even half of what the DMN did.

Next Game: Thursday vs LTech - (LTech on ESPN3 tonight)
ColoradoEagle replied to NorthTexan95's topic in Mean Green Football
LA Tech is up 24-7 and just forced a turnover a minute ago. They're looking a bit better than last year. CUSA is really taking it to the other G5 conferences. -
It might be a defining win for this year. In other words, you may see some pretty high attendance this year after people see the beatdown that SMU got. That has less to do with it being a truly defining win, and more to do with waking up some of our fanbase with a manhandling of a familiar name.
-
Haven't watched the game, but I heard they called this a 100 year rivalry. Really rubbed SMU fans the wrong way.
-
Amazing game. Less than expected attendance. Some work to do on the beer lines.

I believe this says it all.
