So long as: an AD can have a hiring streak like RV has had and keep his job, we can keep a head football coach for a third year after going 3-21 his first two, we can bring a head football coach back for a fourth year after going 5-31 for his first three, we can bring back a basketball head coach who took a program that was 104-57 in the five years before he was hired and keep him after going 28-36 his first two seasons, one of which was against a schedule that was so full of lower division teams we nearly got in trouble with the NCAA and let's not forget that loss to a D-II school... So long as we treat sports as a checkbox on a list of whether or not we have them instead of actually striving to succeed in those sports, this athletic program will never be a winner.

The offense has never been potent under Canales. He's very good at running a very average offense. That's why this year is so bad; Skladany's D and Perry's ST are no longer scoring TDs or making huge stops. Instead of having an average offense, great defense, and great special teams, we have below average offense, awful defense, average special teams. Difference between 9-4 and what's looking like a 3-9 or 4-8 season. The offense took a hit, but nowhere near the hit we took in defense and special teams. If those two units were as solid this year as last year, we'd be looking at 5-1 or 4-2 at worst.

Missing some Mavs and Stars games is a small price to pay for saving about $80 a month. Even if someone only has an antenna, there's still way more sports over the air on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays all year long than most people can watch. That 188% inflation really is astounding.

Networks have been hit hard over the past few years. DVRs are near ubiquitous in homes with cable, so it's hard to sell spots during non-sports events. Lots of people spend a lot of time on Netflix, which means no eyes whatsoever. I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Either some of these networks are going to get dropped/go under to balance out cable bills, or Netflix/Hulu are going to have a dramatic price increase. Maybe both.

Going by Realtime RPI, WKU gave up 38.4 avg per game to opponents with an avg rank of 73.2. If you throw out Nicholls State (WKU hasn't played an FCS), we've given up 33.75 to opponents with an avg rank of 84.75. WKU may be one of the worst defenses in FBS, but so are we. That Nicholls game is skewing stats and some of your perceptions.

Not much I'd change about our gameday, except free WiFi in the stadium would be nice as well as not serving stale tortilla chips and some of the grossest hot dogs I've ever had.

Other than the loss to Georgia, the defense last year never gave up more than 27 points. Even if you throw out the 38 scored by UT-Austin, the 2014 D has now given up 42 to La Tech and 49 to Indiana. I hope no one honestly expects a dominating performance against UAB; you're setting yourself up for disappointment. Here's what they've done so far this year: 48 against Troy 34 against Mississippi State (who just held aTm to 31) 20 against FIU (who's only given up more than 20 this year to Pitt and Louisville) 42 against WKU
