  1. An In-N-Out is opening down here in Alliance area, and they've somehow perfected making the most hideous looking building in fast food. Outside of that, people are always let down when they realize that it's not even a half step above McDonald's. Denton is pretty ripe for a Trader Joe's and a Spec's, though. Where do people even go for liquor? When I lived there, it was either the ghetto convenience store on McKinney St. or driving down to Hickory Creek.
  2. Could always support Cupboard and their crazy prices.
  3. Am I missing something? Is there free WiFi at Apogee?
  4. @UNTFan23 where? There's no 95.3 in local stations on mine.
  5. Leave it to UNT to find the one FM station I've ever not been able to find on either TuneIn Radio or iHeartRadio.
  6. No idea who greenminer's audiophile friends are, but that's been a complaint against satellite radio for at least a decade. When XM first started out, they had pretty decent sound quality, but as they added stations to keep up with Sirius, it got worse and worse. Sirius has always been bad. Current SiriusXM against high quality streaming from Google, Spotify, or Slacker/Milk isn't even a contest. For local radio I'll listen to Rickey Smiley some mornings and occasionally I'll listen to The Ticket or NPR. For the most part, all my talk radio is through podcasts. Once in a while I'll listen to the national ESPN feed on Slacker, and most music is via Google Music or Milk Music. I've actually been shocked at how many people still rely on local radio. I switched to XM back on September 12, 2001 and was told I was the second person to call in to activate. It was so bad that the girl on the other end had to have three people help her figure out how to do it. Even prior to that date I had bought an MP3 car stereo. Guess there are still plenty of satisfied AM/FM listeners.
  7. I did read the original post. If it turns out we can't make changes within the athletics department until $83m in accounting errors is paid off, that will be the last straw for me as a UNT fan. I'm not going to put up with Benford-ball, Mac-isms, and RV making incredibly bad hires for the next 10 years. For me, and I feel like an increasing number of fans from the 00's are reaching the end of their ropes with this AD. I'm sure KRAM1 will be around any minute to say how me and anyone else on the fence isn't a fan and kick us in the ass on the way out, but I'm tired of UNT and RV's excuses.
  8. Being away from the campus, I haven't noticed much other than that horrible "Above the rest for thousands less" campaign. Since sports is my main view into the university now, I'll judge him based on what happens this Spring with RV and Benford. Athletics may be a small part of his job, but when it's embarrassing the school this badly, it's up to him to step up and make changes.
  9. Our workspaces were decided based on overall athletics success this past year. Because all three sports are awful, I got stuck in the smallest area, just off the kitchen, next to the patio. Thanks RV.
  10. I'd like to see the athletic department do more than the bare minimum.

  12. At any school that actually took athletics seriously, a 47% drop in attendance over the course of two and a half years would have the AD and coach both gone. Not at UNT. Forget current and potential fan support, what matters is making a cheap/bad hire and then riding it out as long as possible. Your thought process here is very entitled. I will (hopefully) always be a Mean Green fan, but I'm not going to lay down my money for tickets and gas, and an hour roundtrip to support this crap. If I still lived in Denton, I might make a game or two out of boredom, but I don't blame anyone for not showing up. This is a terrible product, and does not deserve support. Maybe that's offensive in the era of participation awards, but it's the truth. If you like going to watch this stuff, and feel good about supporting the team, that's great. Do you. I will vote with my wallet and stay home. The AD can count on a season ticket purchase from me as soon as Benford is toast 4.5 years into his 5 year contract.
  13. The fans are out there if Benford figures out what the hell he's doing. I think for JJ's last game at the Pit there was almost 7,000. For a Sun Belt conference game...
  14. Looks like an average hire made below average since he doesn't recruit. 25.82 points against would've been good enough for #59 this year, right below South Alabama and above UTSA. If it were the 27.42 from his final year as a DC, we'd be at #71 just below Texas A&M and above Arizona. For comparison, Skladaney had us at #86 and 29.8 points against in what was considered a bad year defensively. For a team that supposedly focuses on defense first, this doesn't look like a good hire on paper. 1996 Illinois 33.82 1998 Michigan State 24.50 2003 South Carolina 26.17 2006 Maryland 22.00 2007 Maryland 21.54 2008 Maryland 22.46 2009 Kansas State 23.33 2010 Kansas State 29.08 2011 Kansas State 27.92 2012 South Florida 27.42 Avg PPG 25.82
  15. Even looking at the DMN 100, again we have zero recruits where SMU has 3, Rice 2, and Louisiana Tech 1. This is our backyard, but we don't have one recruit. "But that's too close, kids want to go away for college." Apparently not. The Houston Chron 100 shows 8 (EIGHT) to Houston, 6 to Rice, 3 to SMU, and 1 to Louisiana Tech. I'm tired of the Dickey spin of finding kids under the radar. We're not getting commitments from quality recruits right now.

  17. So are you saying that RV and his hires are doing a satisfactory job?
  18. UTSA, Texas State, Rice, and Houston seem to do just fine. UTEP is the only other school in the state not pulling any top recruits currently, but I'm not sure who would want to go spend 4-5 years in El Paso anyway. Something is up with the way this staff recruits, and it has nothing to do with UNT.
  19. I can't speak for the current students, but when we started the Pit Crew years ago, it was because we wanted to win. We were tailgating before games to try and drum up support for the team, and Johnny Jones stopped by before one of the games and gave us a box of T-shirts and thanked us for our support. That's how you start a fire. with a great coach who connects with fans. Not with a DJ.
  20. Don't worry. I've heard baseball is just around the corner.
  21. NIU is the only option so far to be worth the add.
