North Carolina perspective on Littrell hire
ColoradoEagle replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Dumb article. Followed by a story of Fedora seeing the future when he personally called a play to win the game. I understand his want to allay any fears about losing Littrell, but painting it like any idiot off the street can come in and be OC, because Fedora's got this shit on lock is pretty dumb. It's not like they'll go from 11-1 to 1-11, but it will have an impact.- 4 replies

Good of him to give $200k to his assistants instead of taking the full $3m.

Not sure why. Other schools like to give UNT crap and call us a commuter school, when that really hasn't been the case for a long time. UTA, however, is the definition of a commuter school. I've actually seen more decals/plates on cars for UT-Dallas than I have for UT-Arlington. That's after having lived in Richardson, Dallas, Denton, Lewisville, and Fort Worth. I think I've seen someone wearing a UTA shirt in the wild once. Not to take anything away from the program, because I'm envious of what they have right now. They just don't have a student body that's invested in the school.

2-18 in the money sports so far this year. What's not to love? -
I'd say he's the first NT Daily writer I've seen (since 2003) to actually care about doing any kind of real reporting. Before him, they were all happy to summarize game results or parrot the official line. Not sure if it's just him, a policy change from NT Daily, more support from the administration, or a little of all of the above. Makes for interesting reading.

brett vito Monday afternoon coach search update
ColoradoEagle replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I can't imagine that Cumbie would go to UT-Austin at this point. It's a lower profile job (yes, you read that right), and much higher risk since Strong is more than likely out after next season barring a miracle turnaround. The only way I can see that happening is if Meacham decides to stay at TCU. -
If it's Meacham, I'd like to see him give Luper a chance as OC.

How do you prepare to be “underwhelmed”

Chico says' "I never saw this season coming"!
ColoradoEagle replied to man-up UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
Because someone else was in charge. Not saying that applies here, but if you're trying to CYA, that would be the answer. -
It's not really excuses, but reasons. There is a certain contingent of fans that will show up any day/any time to watch the team. There are others who will show up when it's convenient. Making the majority of our games this year inconvenient has cost just as much, if not more, in attendance as the poor product on the field. Some of the scheduling was RV's fault and some was just bad luck, but all of it together has really hit the attendance numbers.

It is on 97 NESN on FiOS. DirecTV has that channel, but the game isn't listed in the guide. -

Well, right, but you have to at least give a voice to people who want to be heard. There's a reason city council meetings are open to the public, even if they don't really care. When people feel like no one is listening they tend to go to more extreme measures than they otherwise would have. Like flying a banner...

After reading through the timeline, it seems like there were several times where Wolfe was dismissive of student affecting issues (not just racism), and a lot of time where he just didn't respond at all. Seems like the demands were more of a last resort than a first step. The first step should have been Wolfe sitting down with all stakeholders and setting forth a list of goals/action items with regular meetings to review progress. Instead it seems like he figured everything would just go away.
