  1. There's been no mention of Rice and UTEP contacting the MWC. The topic of the thread is incorrect.
  2. Not really about having the market, so much as having the ability for fans, alums, and donors in DFW and OKC to be able to easily attend games. I know that's a large reason that UTEP gave in the past about why they want to remain in CUSA.
  3. Yeah, but that's a benefit to the MWC, not to Rice. If Rice were to go to the MWC with UTEP, they lose DFW/OKC and San Antonio, cheap regional travel, and a far better and closer baseball conference. The one sport they're actually good at. So what's the incentive for them to move other than forum posters who perceive the MWC as better?
  4. That's some weird logic. You didn't watch any MWC games, and the only CUSA games you watched were UNT. That would lead me to believe that if UNT was in the MWC, you'd still only watch UNT games. No one in DFW or Houston talks about MWC, but they would occasionally if one of the schools were in it. How does that make the MWC better perceived locally?
  5. They wouldn't. Rice has never been in a conference without at least three schools from Texas/Oklahoma/Louisiana, and while UTEP is Texas, it isn't Texas. They'd be cutting off their fans/alums in DFW, Oklahoma, and Louisiana to be in the same division as schools in New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah. I don't see it happening. It's CUSA, AAC, or bust for them.
  6. The money would get eaten up by travel costs. Their very good basketball does nothing to bring up our awful basketball. New Mexico might hold a little more appeal locally than the CUSA schools you mentioned, but that's not really a fair comparison. La. Tech is a better comparison there, and I'm sure they bring as many or more. Nevada, SDSU, F_U's, and Charlotte...nobody in DFW cares about any of those. "I wasn't going to watch North Texas, but now that I know they're playing Nevada, I'm definitely going!" said no one, ever.
  7. Because of what? I used to be a huge proponent for joining the MWC 10 years ago. Being in the same conference as TCU, Utah, and BYU would've been great. Now? Who are these name schools in the MWC that some posters are clamoring for? Boise State for sure, but after that, maybe Fresno State? How is Fresno State any more attractive in DFW than Southern Miss or Marshall? F_U isn't any less attractive than Wyoming or SJSU, because none of those are attractive. If there's a massive shift in conferences, of course we should be open to it. If you're comparing either current CUSA or MWC with UNT as a member, CUSA is a far better fit.
  8. I can't say for sure what UTEP or Rice would do, but it really is not a much better conference. It's about the same in football now. AAC has 3 top 25 teams, CUSA has 1, and MWC has 0. Basketball is much better, but Rice obviously doesn't care about that (they haven't been to the tourney in 45 years) and UTEP would recruit the same players regardless of who they play.
  9. You're right, it was a bad season and a very bad loss. That's why the old coach was fired, and Littrell was hired. Simple.
  10. Mountain West isn't as sexy as it used to be. The football is a bit better, basketball is a lot better, but I don't know that either necessarily convinces any of the current CUSA Texas teams that it's worth dumping a regional footprint to join. Any extra payout would be eaten up quickly by travel costs.
  11. It'll be interesting to see how the hire goes at Tulane. Personally, I was for either Meacham or Littrell over Fritz. I've seen enough run-first offenses at this school to last me a lifetime. Zero interest in the triple option.
  12. It's nice to have something to get excited about, but keep in mind that Mac wrecked this program with poor (being generous) recruiting. It's very probable that the next season or two will be pretty rough.
  13. Matt Moore is already making almost $50k more a year than Simmonds was (is?). Doubt we come up that much or more.
  14. And somehow, McNulty still starts with Greer as backup.
  15. This really irritates me. I'm at my office in LA 5-6 times every year during basketball season, but rarely want to make the drive to downtown. One time, several years ago, I bought tickets to see the Lakers @ Clippers. One time. They send me emails at least once a week: "Full Court Press: WIn streak on the line and more", "Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals", "Lock in your seats for the best match-ups of the season". How many email addresses or phone numbers did the AD get from tickets sold and working the crowd? Their job is to sell, sell, sell. You're not going to sell a damn thing without leads. The fact that they had a huge opportunity to get people out to Apogee for the 2014 season and didn't isn't on the fans, it's on the AD and the poor salesmanship. It's honestly always the story with this AD. "We built it, but they don't come." No shit. Get you and/or your people off their asses and go out and generate sales. Yes, it's much easier if you have an amazing, nationally ranked product like he alludes to in his next thought. You can't sit there and let that be your only driver. I'm scared to go to a TCU game, because I feel like I'd be getting emails and calls all the time to become a season ticket holder, the same way the Clippers pursue new fans.

  17. Ah ok. All the stuff that he thought was magically going to change once he started flashing his rings around and inserting Iowa and Wisconsin into every other sentence.
  18. It's a very cool video, but maybe I'm missing something...62 views?
  19. If our televised game is on FS1 or something, that's different. We played Rice at 1:30 in the afternoon in the middle of September to be on Fox College Sports. That's a channel 99% of people have never even heard of. It's not even in HD. Screw that.
  20. Definitely wasn't out of our price range... From footballscoop
  21. And none of them worked out. Seems that bringing in the old guard HCs from P5s is a failed experiment outside of Frank Solich. Even he seems like a good, not great, hire.
