  1. This year is more of a mixer than a presentation as in past years. A few minutes of speaking followed by the coaches mingling, so arriving late doesn't mean you'll really miss anything. That knowledge makes the early start time in Ft. Worth much easier to handle.
  2. North of 820 is also Tarrant County.
  3. 5:30 PM on 7th street in Fort Worth? What major I-35W construction, right?
  4. TNF has been on CBS for a few years now. They keep adding more games, because the ratings on NFLN are horrendous (compared with normal games) and CBS is willing to pay. Problem is that midway through the season, the games switch to NFLN and feature teams where not even their home cities want to watch.
  5. I'm pretty average on my football knowledge, and even I was yelling this year when we gave that kind of cushion on 3rd and 3. I was even more frustrated when, on the very next play, they were on the line.
  6. It's definitely anecdotal, and definitely not the majority. Maybe once you hit low 20s/teens it's the majority. For me I just hate having another monthly bill/contract. I can do without Rangers/Mavs except the times they're on ESPN. Even if I absolutely had to have those games, I'd rather sub during the season to Playstation Vue than sign a contract with Frontier (or go through the effort of unblock.us).
  7. Will watch the first half of the season where it's on CBS and the matchups are along the lines of Broncos/Patriots. Will stop watching when it gets into Jaguars/Titans territory.
  8. Paid TV in general. I've known a couple people to try Sling off and on, which is close to cable.
  9. Supposedly the part north of 820 will be done this year. South of 820 is 2018.
  10. I don't know anyone under the age of 40 who pays for cable. The rapid increase in price the past 15 years, increase in commercials, and wide availability of OTT options makes it more of a luxury than a necessity anymore. I'd rather take the $75 a month savings and use it for a night out. ESPN's problem is they way overpaid for content. Doesn't help that they've basically turned into sports TMZ.
  11. Always an idiotic argument. College sports should never be pro sports, which is what he's advocating. There's a separation in finances, to be sure, but saying that athletes should either be paid or the school shouldn't field a team takes the decision out of the players' hands (do I want a free education and/or to play the game I love) and puts it with the top 30 or so financially successful programs in the country. Instead of giving almost 11,000 kids scholarships, let's just give it to the 2,550 who are good enough to go to the top schools. The other 8,450 can suck it.
  12. I think this hurts Meacham's future chances. What I read from this is either a) he wasn't the best option for North Texas but mostly b) he's only going to jump when the money is high enough. ie He's not a hungry coach who wants to make his name at a program, he's a coordinator in his 50s who's only concerned with a paycheck or being in the most comfortable location possible.
  13. Checked out the new one up here at 35W and N. Tarrant. Decent little selection. Four racks of men's, four racks of women's, and a couple kids' racks. Outside of that, normal stuff: water bottles, glasses, flags, car emblems, etc.
  14. This athletic department is lazy. That won't change until RV retires.
  15. Those property taxes tho...
  16. Well, you see, Northern Arizona and Tulsa...
  17. Cowboys coverage, former Wills Point coach dies, Mavs @ Knicks. Not even a mention. Same thing earlier in the season when all of Saturdays games were being previewed, including SMU and TCU, and the only person to mention Rice @ UNT was Izzy after the sports segment. WFAA consistently shows SMU and TCU and rarely has UNT coverage. Don't get me wrong, there's not a whole lot to cover about UNT right now, but it's definitely treated about the same or worse as local high schools on your channel.
  18. The most important thing right now is for the conference to get on board with the new commissioner's basketball initiative. CUSA basketball now actually seems worse than SBC ball was, and we're a huge contributor to that. We've gotta get back to being a 2-3 bid league.
  19. WFAA was the only channel not to mention the Littrell hire on the 10pm news.
  20. How did a joke thread about a Texas Tech guy ringing a bell turn into a rant about RV?
  21. Every 8-4 team is 4 or 5 momentum swinging plays away from being 4-8. That's football.
  22. I don't see SMU as that much higher on the totem pole than us. They're just coasting off of their SWC legacy, which disappears more and more as time goes on. The local media pays them a bit more attention for now, but nowhere near what they do TCU and the Big 12. The two schools are mostly interchangeable right now, Larry Brown's NCAA violations aside. UH is the current "big" G5 school in the state. They're putting a lot of time, effort, and money into hiring the right coaches, revamping their facilities, and getting people out to games. I'm very interested in what happens with SMU's football program next year. Morris had the athletes he needed to compete right away, but still got his teeth kicked in the first year.
