Fort Worth - Home of the AAC Basketball Tournament
ColoradoEagle replied to greenminer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Much closer for everyone not living in the Dallas exurbs. I've worked with Dickies Arena quite a bit, and seen nearly every square inch of the facility before they opened a couple years ago. It's a top notch venue in every way imaginable. I'm glad Aresco confirmed a long term deal as it is easily the best G5 venue, and better than a few of the P5s as well. -
Specific Top Candidates for Next UNT HC
ColoradoEagle replied to Billy Clyde's topic in Mean Green Football
We had Dickey, then Dodge, then McCarney, and then Littrell. If we’re sticking to the pattern, McGuire is the guy… -
I get what you're saying, but SMU needing a name opponent to fill its stadium has been an issue for decades. That used to be us as well, but now with 42k students all we have to do is sniff success to sell the thing out as we saw in 2018. I'm wondering how SMU bridges the gap between a smaller student population and selling out Ford the way TCU has with Amon Carter over the past 15-20 years. And I'm not rooting against SMU here. I want SMU, and by extension the AAC, to succeed. Same way I don't necessarily like UTSA either, but I want them to succeed because it raises the profile of the conference.
-
That SMU is having a great season and the fans aren't there. The same point that I'm sure would be made by anyone looking at them as a candidate for a P5 conference.
-
This. The closest we've come to being ranked in recent history was in 2018, opening the season with a W against SMU, and 4-0 including a win against Arkansas with the viral punt return. That next home game with La Tech had 30,100 show up. And they were actually there. We're taking our lumps with having a bad team this year, but SMU will never have scoreboard on us when it comes to attendance and all else is equal.

Anybody attending the AAC Reception this evening?
ColoradoEagle replied to kj86's topic in Mean Green Football
Absolutely would've been there, but currently in Jamaica. There in spirit! -
I think we've been given a golden opportunity to take basketball to the next level. The combination of our coach, a new arena, and competing against national powers like Memphis and Wichita State could make this a program defining moment. I've always wanted baseball as well, but it wouldn't have the same impact on our athletics as having a top 25 basketball team would.

P6 already kicking in.
-
Yep. Far more important than baseball.
-
So what are you looking forward to the most in the AAC?
ColoradoEagle replied to shaft's topic in Mean Green Football
The constant crying from the hilltop about being in the same conference as us. Also, basketball. -

Sun Belch schools look to maim CUSA leftovers
ColoradoEagle replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Football
New AAC has two teams in the top 25. Sun Belt and MWC have one each. The MWC being the best G5 league is not really set in stone. -
There’s still room to go to 16.
-
My guess is that the MWC wasn’t willing/able to match the conference payout numbers that were offered by the AAC. Even if we were interested in going west, that killed any movement forward. I joked about it in another thread, but I really do have to wonder if CSU/AFA decide to jump to the AAC at this point. Those two ADs have to be pissed.
-
I doubt any of the schools are paying an entry fee. Temporary reduced distribution on media rights is the entry fee.
-
It doesn’t say CUSA will stay at 8. It does say the SBC is thinking of staying at 10, which is a bit shocking if there’s no change either way there.
-
I wouldn’t be shocked to see the Belt pick up Marshall, Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, and ODU. Either that or it goes the other direction and CUSA picks up four to six. It’s looking more and more likely that CUSA is going to have to scramble to stay alive.

Where do I go to get my apologies? Or at least see some crow eating? 😂 In all seriousness, very excited for this news. Bonus is that the only thing that would’ve caused more of a meltdown at ponyfans than us joining the MWC is us joining the AAC.

Y'all must be great at parties.

"Mitch, you want an apple?" "No, eventually it'll be a core."
