We have ESPNU HD here. I wonder if they'll go through the trouble.

Pudge Back With Rangers
ColoradoEagle replied to EagleD's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
He's said that part of the reason that he waived his no-trade is because he wants to retire a Ranger. So my guess is pretty likely, heh. -
I have been and will always be a die-hard fan of NT sports. I've put a lot of time, effort, and money (at least for the time, ha) into helping the program in what little way that I could. You contradict yourself on the 'winning' argument. You say that winning builds a program, and then later you say that we can't rely on people who only care about winning and aren't loyal to their school. Obviously a winning program generates more interest than a losing program, but it's not the most important ingredient. Having students who are proud of their alma mater, later becoming alumni with fond memories of their school and athletics is what builds a program. RV and the athletic department has done a lot in slowly building up interest at a school whose students and community were apathetic for decades. Part of being proud of your school is the venues the sports are played in, and honestly, my first thought when I saw Fouts was of Waterboy. That isn't to say that people can't be proud with inferior facilities; many people still are. But we're not talking about people on this message board, we're talking about current students, alumni, and DFW. Those people take a bit more prodding to show up on Saturdays. A new stadium, as I said before, will not magically result in sell-outs. What it will do is give future students a different perspective of North Texas, the same way little additions like the Rec Center have in recent years. As far as scheduling the big time opponents, I personally don't care. I know others obviously do, and hopefully that is a cog that will fall into place eventually.
-
Like I said, winning doesn't magically solve problems. TCU struggles year after year to get over 35k (stadium holds 45k I think?) to their home games, despite regularly putting a ranked squad on the field. You could argue that they have fewer alumni than we do, but I think you could also argue that they probably have more alumni who give a crap than we do.
-
The stadium didn't sell out because: no one cared about who we were beating, most students/alums felt like the athletic program was a joke, and going to a game at Fouts is a pretty terrible college football experience. The new stadium solves two, and hopefully some day, three out of three. We've come a long ways even since I was a student, but to tell yourself that winning will fill the stadium is gearing yourself up for disappointment. The largest crowd I've ever seen there was an opening game against the '03 Bumbling Baylor Bears.
-
7,000? Winning helps but it doesn't fill the stadium; we learned that under DD. On top of that, the stadium is one hell of an eyesore coming into town, and makes the school look rinky-dink. This affects recruiting in all the sports, student spirit, and community support. I'm not saying that we're going to have sold out games from here until eternity once the stadium is built. What I'm saying is that Fouts operates as a negative for everything about the school as opposed to a neutral. It's the only thing 95% of people driving through see of UNT, and most of them keep on driving.

I've always said that the football stadium is the largest factor in keeping people away. It looks terrible from 35, from North Texas Blvd, and from the 50 yard line. More than anything else, it screams, "We don't really take this seriously." Once the new stadium is built, win or lose, attendance at all NT sports will improve year over year.

5 Mid-major Football Coaches On The Hot Seat
ColoradoEagle replied to mgsteve's topic in Mean Green Football
If the losing continues, even with slight improvement, I think the most he can hope for is to finish out the '10 season. RV won't open a brand new football stadium with a losing coach. -
News Video Of New Akron Football Stadium Being Built
ColoradoEagle replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
Here's a new gallery that was added on Saturday -> http://zipsnation.org/forums//index.php?au...=si&img=352 This is looking like a beautiful stadium for Akron. I really love the brick colors they used. It's fun to see two stadiums being designed right around the same time (Akron's and ours) taking very different shapes. It shows that a school doesn't have to have a ridiculous budget to create a very visually pleasing structure. -
History In The Making

And you can't deny that many voted for McCain because he's white. Just drop it. -
I enjoy reading and talking politics, and exactly in the way that you describe. I have no vision of the future, but I do know where I stand. What bothers me, particularly about this election cycle, is the uninformed on both sides. If you want to discuss focusing on offshore drilling and nuclear power vs. green power, that's great. Instead it's "Barack HUSSEIN Obama" and "stupid, ignorant rednecks." Reading a lot of the posts in the politics threads here, I'm actually embarrassed that some people with degrees from North Texas have been reduced to the same debate tactics as someone who didn't even graduate from high school. We're graduates of a great university, and I feel we need to demonstrate that.

I can highlight parts of a sentence that's not really even comprehendible too. That was Biden in 2006, before he was part of the ticket. Obama has never, to my knowledge, changed his stance on the issue. His energy plan is on his website. Yep, that's Obama's plan for the country. Turn off 50% of its power on January 20th. I'm glad you were able to clarify his plan for me.

Nfl Network
ColoradoEagle replied to NT03's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
He's pretty damn bad, and definitely reading a lot of things off of cue cards. I hate the NFL network in general, because unless it's a home game I can't watch Thursday night games. Also, wtf at being beat by Houston. -
If you're going to be driving over the holidays like me, you might be interested in this. If you don't have XM, you can get a 3 months free if you activate before the end of the year, and you can get the radio for $19. Best deal in the world, imo.

There's a really cool knit at the Lids in Denton that I picked up over Thanksgiving. It's got just the SOW on one side, and "MEAN GREEN" on the other. It's dark green with a white outlined black band running around the bottom.

Solid point 93-98. My concern has less to do with current capacity than with future capacity. The reason I said 40,000 minimum is it seems that would allow expansion to 60,000 in the future instead of 30,000 to 50,000. Still, in the end, it could be worse than maxing out at 50,000. Texas Tech, Kansas, Colorado, Iowa State, and Kansas State are all about ~50-55,000.

Don't Mess With Texas
ColoradoEagle replied to KingDL1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Anyone who says the burglars deserved to die is straight up crazy. -
I forgot to put in that I was ignoring the WKU game. Had it been a normal weather day, I'm sure we could have expected at least 15-17,000.

SMU doesn't have the alumni base and current enrollment that North Texas does, much less the predicted enrollment. NT also hasn't been subject to the death penalty. As far as the basketball arena, we could've had American Airlines Center and it still wouldn't have overcome Vic Trilli.
