  1. Nah, he was dead after he failed to recruit anyone, especially at QB, his first couple years. I know you love to crap on UNT, but the culture had nothing to do with it. We could have had a sellout vs SMU in 2014 and nothing would have changed. For all his failings, at least Littrell has been able to replenish our talent enough to keep us from hitting rock bottom. Something Mac was unable to do.
  2. Are you really blaming McCarney's failures on UNT? hahaha He failed at UNT because he couldn't recruit. Once all of Dodge's guys left McCarney's lack of recruiting was exposed. It had nothing to do with UNT's culture. Why would fans flock to Apogee in 2014 when it was quickly evident 2013 was just a mirage? We were blown out in 4 of the first 6 games.
  3. I think you're letting 2013 cloud your judgment on Thompson. No one thought he was a good game manager his first two years. He had to fight for his job every offseason.
  4. Thompson 2011-2012: 57.6 competition % - 6.8 yds per attempt - 25/20 TD/INT Aunue 2020-2021 52.3 completion % - 7.6 yds per attempt - 22/13 TD/INT
  5. Derek Thompson was the exact same as Aune his first 2 years as starter. People seem to forget that.
  6. All he does is complain and troll. He’s already said he’s not supporting the program this year so I’m not sure why he’s still here posting every day.
  7. Except McNulty was no where near as good as Aune.
  8. I don’t think anyone sees your point
  9. I’d rather have a great regular season and play for a conference title than have an average season buoyed by 2 rivalry wins. Bowl games don’t move the needle much for me. They’re becoming less and less important in CFB and losing one doesn’t bother me much more than a regular season game. If the devil offered me a deal that UNT would win at least 8 games every year, but never win their bowl game I’d take it in a second.
  10. Wait, you’d really rather go 7-5 with wins vs SMU, UTSA than 10-2 with both losses coming against them?
  11. I agree it kinda sucks our first game is so massive. If our opener was against Texas Southern I think there’s a good chance Gunnell is our starter right now.
  12. These 40-50 second "recap" videos have me worried we're in store for another year of super short 2 min highlight videos... IMO, we should either do 4-5 minute highlight videos of our best plays or 10 min game recap videos showing our big/scoring plays along with our opponent's scoring plays. It would be awesome to relive how games actually played out in a short video. Bonus points if they sync the radio broadcast to the plays.
  13. It's on Stadium. Could be on a local channel depending on where you live and TV provider.
  14. Yes, I'm sure Wren is rooting for another bad season of football.
  15. Sounds like they don't care about the success of UNT as a whole and should be ignored until they can come up with the millions of dollars it will cost to start the program.
  16. Their money and time would be better spent supporting/growing our new NIL Collective or MGSF. Baseball isn't going to advance our athletics department.
  17. I understand. It's a big culture shock when they're used to seeing frat guys doing lines of coke off the tops of toilets.
  18. Because right now it’s 100% legal. You’d rather UNT fall behind everyone because paying players makes you feel icky?
  19. Absolutely. And I have some friends who are eager to donate as well. I hope people can get over their negative feelings toward NIL and understand that as long as it exists in its current form having a well funded collective, like Light the Tower, should be the #1 priority for every program.
  20. Apologies, misread your first post. Not really. Schools can use up to 85 scholarships at a given time, but only 80 players are allowed to participate in a game.
  21. But until they get it under control we need to do everything possible to get ahead of our conference mates. Some of y'all are gonna hate hearing this, but it's now more important to donate to Light The Tower than the MGSF. We need to use our vast alumni base to build our funds so we can pay every football and basketball player at least $15K-$20K/year. And no player worth a damn is going to take $50K to sit on the bench. Why risk losing a chance at the NFL just to get $15K-$20K more over a couple years?
  22. I'm not a fan of where NIL has taken college football, but DAMN there's a lot of shortsighted, old man ranting in this thread.
  23. Seems simple when you break it down like this. Hopefully, our top donors sweeten the pot enough to where we only need 5K-6K people donating $500.
  24. Especially, when no current players seem outraged by the incident and all his former players are coming to his defense. I don't doubt he said what he said, but it seems like Venabels and the OU administration wanted him gone for other reasons and are using this as an excuse.
