Not true. Tech did the same thing a few years ago. They started adding/increasing premiums to the seats in certain sections over a couple of years. If you want the best seats you have to pay more. Next year (as I understand it) the rates in all sections will go up. This year it stays the same if you renew early. A little risky IMHO since the sections in question aren't full.

Do We Need Another Qb For Insurance?
ShopMeanGreen replied to DeepGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Interesting to compare apples and oranges. Until you put each of the QBs onto the field you will really not know what you are going to get. How would each of them play on a different team and in different situations is anybody's guess. I don't think anyone can argue that Mack Brown has had some difficulties putting a Heisman Trophy quality QB on the field. Of all of the group mentioned you can throw Vince Young out, no QB would be able to touch him in the situation he was in. I will argue that Vizza would likely be a better QB in the UT system than Colt McCoy. I would argue the same point of Riley Dodge but it would be a stretch since he has never taken a college snap. Bottom line is there is no was to pick the better QB when they are all in different situations. -
Thank Goodness We Don't Have This Logo Anymore
ShopMeanGreen replied to UNTLifer's topic in Mean Green Football
Good question. I wonder if there is still a trade mark associated with it. I don't know if they/when they expire. That was before CLC also. Once something (ie the last eagle) is no longer listed with CLC does the University still have a trade mark, if not expired or is it fair game? -

"coaches On The Verge Of Stardom"
ShopMeanGreen replied to GoMeanGreen1999's topic in Mean Green Football
I think Coach Dodge should always do what is best for him and his family. He will not be at North Texas forever so I think his job is to leave it better than he found it and turn over the reins to the next coach to do the same. If the program improves to BCS status he may not have to leave for better things, it will continue to get better here. The list also contains 2 coaches that were on NT's short list to hire, that says we can hire a good coach when the time comes. I for one am not going to worry about that time and simply enjoy the progress. -

No doubt UNT has a significant history of supplying old eagle artwork to the clip art companies. About time to change again by my calculations. -
Audit Questions U C F's Athletic Funding Practices
ShopMeanGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
No matter the out come it is still wrong! If it was such a great idea (which it turned out to be) they should have done everything above board. Now it is a scandal, done correctly they would have been the greatest administration the university had ever seen. I can only guess what the is all about but I think I have pushed the envelope enough already and this board should be a little lighter tone. -
Audit Questions U C F's Athletic Funding Practices
ShopMeanGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Wrong. That is a huge issue. Government, whether State (Univ.) or Federal must be held accountable for the way OUR money they are given is spend. All of the improvement certainly paid off and I hope NT can do the same but that does not give the University the right to mislead the public. The students don't have a choice in paying the fees so one could argue the athletic fee is a tax, not to mention the other tax money the university spends. It is no more correct for the university to misappropriate those funds as it would be for a government official to pay for a weekend with a hooker with tax money. If the University felt the money would be well spent and could justify spending the money it should be out in the open not done it through the back door. Please think about the huge amount of tax money taken from each of us (assuming you are paying taxes and not still living off mom and dad) and how that money is spent before November when you have the chance to vote for a Socialist. ( The previous political statement was entirely mine and may not be the view of the administrators of this site) Todd -
If a new hotel is in the works will UNT own it? How does that figure into the state money for non educational purposes? Will Paris Hilton fund the project? Maybe it will be a Hilton and the Ex Gov. from New York will run it.

The Future Of The Mean Green Athletic Village, Notes
ShopMeanGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I would like to see NT get a nice golf course sometime in the future, it would be a nice addition to the athletics. Texas Tech and LCU have added nice courses the last few years. The Tech course open to the public, I don't know about LCU. However, there is plenty of room here in Lubbock. -
I wondered the same thing. I thought he enrolled for this semester.

Hale: Sun Belt Needs Another Bowl Tie-in
ShopMeanGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I am opposed to adding more bowls just so the SBC will have 2-3 tie ins because the other side of the ball will be a lower ranked team from an already thinly spread conference. I do believe the SBC teams are improving and so the games will likely get even more one sided and more difficult to promote. I think the current bowls need to be re-contracted to make sure the best teams play in those bowl...I just don't thibk the SBC would ever get a fair shake. Why would C-USA not look to the conference with the least bowl tie ins for the current potential bowl addition. -

Some Interesting Bowl Stuff In This Article
ShopMeanGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Who's going to play in it? Big XII #11 or MAC #5, C-USA #7... Whatever SBC Bowl added will be the bottom of the heap and will sell 10-12K seats if lucky. Conferences that have multiple tie ins barely fill the spots with bowl eligible teams as it is. -
I would favor playing TCU over SMU anyday. We played them well a few years ago, just before they really tuned up. I would rather play TCUand leave SMU behind. NT will soon be more in tune with TCU than SMU IMHO.

I would volunteer a week to unbolt move and rebolt the endzone bleachers to get a baseball stadium. I'm sure there is some regulation that would prevent things that make too much sense.

Wouldn't be the first time thew screwed Applewhite in favor of a less qualified Simms.

Should Unt Consider Justin Willis?
ShopMeanGreen replied to Censored by Laurie's topic in Mean Green Football
Not interested in a reform school program. -
Has very little to do with who can beat who and more on reputation, bowl games, TV time etc. I agree there is a stigma to the SBC that may never go away.

Hawaii Signs Lucerative Under Armour Deal
ShopMeanGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Anyone can buy UA and put NT logos on it as long as it is licensed by NT through CLC. I found the Kelly green version of their "not cotton" T-shirt at Academy. The T-shirt with no logo on it was $20. Their prices are usually very reasonable. FWIW Academy had TX Tech UA jerseys at $59. they also had Nike UT jerseys...both were very similar in quality and both screen printed. The UT jersey was $29. I think we are all frustrated that more NT stuff is not on the market and I am somewhat disapointed in the speed I have been able to get it done. I can get UA gear and put NT branding on it but I am more interested in getting quality gear out there that costs less. If someone wants to spend $60 on a polo go ahead, I have no intrest in competing in that market. Maybe after I get a good basic selection out there I will be able to offer a more expensive line like Nike, Tommy, UA etc. I am not the least bit disapointed that UA isn't making NT gear because I can afford it but still won't pay $60 for a polo. I would like to see a good jersey however. UA should offer that. Todd -
Academy is one of the complicated stores to get in to, along with Sports Authority, Dick's etc. I have spoken with managers in the stores and they are interested in NT Apparel but the buyers can't find it. I went to the Collegiate Market at Dallas Market Center a couple weeks ago and found very little North Texas Merchandise. The stuff I found I had to ask for. It is very time consuming to put a line together and winter is difficult for me. I am trying to hire a couple of employees but have had a hard to time finding people with some initiative. My goal was Jan 1, 08, now I am shooting for July 1, 08. I have done the CLC part now I just have to get the stuff out there. Things I don't produce are difficult to get because of the cost, minimums, set ups, licensing etc. I will take more time but it will happen. Todd

"These are people who wish the DRC was like the rags in Austin and Norman, their writer's lips firmly and permanently planted on the butt cheeks of Mack Brown and Bob Stoops, respectively" I still having trouble understanding why I think this is be a bad idea. You can't limit the AAS to kissing Mack Brown's butt...half of the sports writers do the same thing as well as the rest of the BCS schools. YES, I do expect a little latitude from the home town paper. I don't expect incorrect information but it can always be spun in a more positive light. If you think journalism is above playing favorites my point will be moot.

How many poeple reading the blog don't know NT went 2-10. I agree, I think 2-10 and no recruit is firm until Feb...is getting a little old. 10-2 on the other hand would not get old until the year it was 11-1.

North Texas Officially Is Third Largest University In Texas
ShopMeanGreen replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Football
I heard a report not long ago that NT Film ranked # 2 behind USC. IS this true? I don't doubt it seems like something that needs more exploitation.
