  7. SMU Announces 2002-03 Hoops Schedule Mustangs To Play 10 Games Against Teams That Reached 2002 Post-Season The SMU Men's Basketball Team will play at least 10 games against teams that reached the postseason in 2002, according to the 2002-03 schedule released Wednesday, August 14, by Mustang Head Coach Mike Dement. The Ponies will host Metroplex rival TCU in the regular season opener on Nov. 24 at Moody Coliseum before traveling west to Lubbock to take on 2002 NCAA Tournament team Texas Tech and Head Coach Bobby Knight on Nov. 26. SMU then hosts North Texas on Nov. 29 before making a three-game road trip to Oral Roberts, Wake Forest and Appalachian St. The Dec. 15 game against 2002 NCAA participant Wake Forest will also be televised nationally on Fox Sports. SMU then returns home to play host to Baylor on Dec. 21 before departing for Las Vegas, Nev., Dec. 28-29, where the Ponies will compete in the Jim Thorpe Classic against West Virginia in opening round action. With a win over the Mountaineers, the Mustangs would likely face host and 2002 NIT participant UNLV in the final. SMU closes out the non-conference portion on their 2002-03 slate by hosting San Diego on Jan. 2. In addition to the non-conference games, SMU will play home-and-home series against all Western Athletic Conference foes, including postseason participants Fresno State, Hawaii, Tulsa and Louisiana Tech. “We’ve responded to our fans’, students’ and faculty’s requests to upgrade our schedule," said Dement. "We should lead the league in strength of schedule. With games against TCU, Baylor, North Texas and San Diego along with the WAC schedule, we have a very strong home slate. Add to that road games at Texas Tech, Oral Roberts, Wake Forest and Appalachian State and the Jim Thorpe Classic with teams like West Virginia and UNLV, and we’ve got an extremely challenging schedule." “With the exciting players we have and the quality games we’re playing, we’re asking our fans to respond," Dement continued. "It’s going to be an exciting and competitive year. Hopefully our followers will come out and fill up Moody so we can match and exceed the home court advantages that we will see on the road.” Date Event Site Time/Score Thursday November 7 Sport Tours (exh.) 8. Just curious but if it's true and one of the girls went to TWU does soccer have rules similiar to football that would require them sit out for a year? And is TWU even in any conference?
  9. Thanks for the info, but it was a little dissappointing since I was expecting the new schedule to be there. Tons of good stats though, thanks!
  10. Any idea if they're going to get a new Scrappy mascot uniform? I really like the new logo!
  11. Why is texas Techs HSC not on the list? Also I know the NTHSC is an Ostropathic school anu idea why it isn't a medical school i.e graduates MD's instead or DO's?
  12. Don't know if this was the link he RC was thinking about but its got some good info. Stuff to do in Austin
  13. Sam should probably be red shirted to allow him time to bulk up, were there any other future North Texans in last nights game? Has anyone come up with a roster with potential positions including the recruits?
  14. I was engaged in a debate at the office with "Joe apathetic NT alum" and asked why he didn't get more excited about all that's happening at NT. His response was "He didn't like the way we sold out all other programs to advance football" After picking up my chin I told him about how we were soon going to be the only title IX compliant school in TX etc. and his rebuttle was the fact we took scholarships away from girls/other sports to offer to football athletes. I continued to defend RV et al but didn't have any specific scholarship numbers etc. Does anybody have a source that gives a break down of scholarships offered and any changes from previous years? I've won over 3 former apathetic alums in my office and just need some help on this one! Thanks.
  15. Its sad to say, but I attended more games last year than my entire undergrad career at NT. I was one of those (As Jim Fincher states) parasitic commuter, but the excitement won me over! At first I must admit his statement did take me aback, but unlike so many I'm working on changing things. In Tarrant county i'm helping lay the foundation for a strong NT EXEs chapter, that will work to support the goals for the common good of athletics and NT. The good news is the fact if as an alum you can get me excited about my school you can get most alums excited, in time. Unfortunately it takes some longer than others (I like getting on the wagon while there's plenty of room!) Thanks To Rick V, DD, and JJ et al for getting someone who used to watch TT athletics to turn the channel and get up to Denton!! Now i'm proud to say I get grief daily on the decor in my cubbicle and it has become a shrine to the Mean Green. But I wear the banner proudly!! I can't wait for football, but i'm really excited about what next year entails for BB!! Steve
