  1. Here's the link. Also a quick question. I heard Shawnson Johnson isn't eligible for the fall season, but is he available during the semester break or do we have to wait until the Spring semester starts? Summer Prospectus
  2. Here's a list of all major fan boards, just click on the message board tab at the top right corner. Fan Board list
  3. Any mention where or why he was transferring?
  4. Congrats to CD on his newborn, may motivate him even more now towards NBA career. Some interesting insights. Interesting Story
  5. I'll be dissappointed if we're not 4-0 going into the Baylor game.
  6. I had floor seats this year and learned a ton from watching, it truly is a differerent game down there and you see many nuances I didn't catch sitting up higher. Next year I plan on possibly splitting a set since there are so many games, if you're interested drop me a line and we'll see about hammering out the details.
  7. Looks like he will make the cut and is currently in 27th at -2, should help his earnings for the year.
  8. It is actually called the Vic Bubas Cup and is named after the leagues first commissioner, Vic Bubas.
  9. I got this update from athletics. Mean Green Golf Heads To NCAA Central Region DENTON (5/6/03)- The NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee has placed the 2003 Sun Belt Conference Champion North Texas men's golf team in the Central Region as the 19th seed. The Mean Green will compete for a spot in the NCAA Championship at the Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan, Kansas from May 15-17. The top 10 teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships May 27-30 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The top two individuals from non-advancing schools at each regional will also advance to the national tournament. The Mean Green enter the field red-hot as they have won their last two tournaments and are getting great individual play from Brad Besler and Zach Atkinson. Besler won the Sun Belt Conference Individual Championship while Atkinson placed third and earned All-Conference honors for a second straight year.
  10. I agree that UNT has a good club team but it is important to remember our club team is playing their club teams, not the same teams that go to the NCAA baseball tourney.
  11. The baseball field is in Phase 3 of the athletic expansion plans, with the football stadium being in phase 2. The main problem is the 250-300k annual operating expenses of fielding a team right now.
  12. Does anyone know when a decision will be reached by NCAA regarding his med. redshirt?
  13. As soon as UNT gets an extra 300k annually for baseball expenses it will be. Note the phase 3 baseball field, there are so many other things in front of it I think it will be a while.
  14. I heard we were looking at a JUCO pg in FL, I guess it didn't pan out.
  15. The verdict is still out since the session isn't over until May (at which point a special session will mostlikely be called for either a. budget or b. school finance) so we'll have to wait and see.
  16. I heard a report on an organization that is matching servicemembers with civilians to help them get the items they can't get overseas. The organization has been doing it since 1995 and I was impressed at how quick I got a servicemember and the items he'd like to get. We got 1 male and 1 female servicemember. Since I was not fortunate enough to serve our country in the Armed services I thought this was a great idea. Operation Military Pride
  17. Soccer: Mean Green soccer to face Notre Dame 03/14/2003 Staff report The University of North Texas announced its 2003 soccer schedule, which is highlighted by a school record 12 home games. The Mean Green will open the season on the road with two games in Waco against Houston on Aug. 29 and then a battle with Baylor on Aug. 31. North Texas begins their home schedule on Sept. 3 against Southwest Texas. "This years schedule presents a real challenge. I am really hoping our strong non-conference schedule prepares the team for another conference title,’’ said UNT head coach John Hedlund. Highlighting the non-conference schedule for the Mean Green are home games with Texas Tech, Rice, and Houston. The Mean Green also have non-conference road games with Dallas rival SMU and a contest with national power Notre Dame in South Bend on Sept. 28. The Mean Green are coming off a 14-5-1 season and return the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year Marilyn Marin, who also lead the nation in points and goals last season. 2003 North Texas soccer schedule Aug. 29 vs. Houston# Aug. 31 vs. Baylor# Sept. 3 SW TEXAS Sept. 5 HOUSTON Sept. 7 RICE Sept. 10 at Stephen F. 18. WOO HOO (As Homer Simpson would say) Happy birthday.
  19. After trailing at the half 32-28 the lady eagles made some key adjustments and took care of business knocking off UALR 70-59. So we'll see if the lady eagles can better last years tournament performance. It will be tough though since they face WKY (12-2 conf 19-8 overall) next on Sat. at 1:30.
  20. I don't want to steal Coach Segal's thunder but I happened to see something on the UNT website about an upcoming softball camp so I thought i'd repost it here. 2003 Mean Green Softball Camps * June 8-11, 2003 (Ages 8-17; All Skills) * June 11-14, 2003 (Ages 8-17; Pitchers/Catchers) -- For camp details, email North Texas assistant coach Angie Scharnhorst (scharnhorst@unt.edu) or call (940-369-7958)
  21. Unjel leaving will free up a scholarship but will still count against the totals. I believe the rule was modified to allow 9 in two years recently but I discussed this topic a while back. Link to previous 5/8 topic
  22. I too was a season ticket holder and my wife probably wishes we hadn't attended so many games this year. But that said I saw most of the conference games and will offer my observations. The biggest factor in our lack of success i'd say is either injuries or a lack of consistancy. When Will Smith and Scott Roniger went down it showed the lack of depth similar to the situation DD inherited when he got here. This will be JJ's first full season including a full recruiting class and i'd say we start seeing next year more of JJ's talent level. I also put consistency tied as a leading reason because it seemed like one game we'd need to pick up rebounding and turnovers would increase, then the next game fewer turnovers and less rebounds. That's just an example but it seemed like they'd focus on a certain problem and all of a sudden the others would creep up. I don't know if this is a coaching issue or not (maybe buford et al can help with that). Also with the lack of depth it put in my opinion too much of the load on Chris Davis and as we saw in the final minutes of the UNO game all they did in the final minutes was shut him down and closed the door on us. My biggest surpirse (pleasant) has been the play of newcomers Michael Degrate, Ty Thomas, and Ron Harris. There is a reason Baylor wanted him M.D. that being his ability to make the plays in crucial moments. I've seen him get more comfortable as the season progressed and watched his fouls go down and scoring increase. I'm curious how much of a factor Mike Jones (teammate and MCC) will have in making MD a bigger impact with him here to help. The season has also been good in the sense it let JJ get TT and RH see some playing time which will reap the benefits next year. It's also been a nice surprise watching J Barnett step up, remember he's a RS freshman and if the end of this season is any indicator we have great things to expect from him in the future. I think the true test will be next year with JJ finally putting his stamp on it, last year he really overachieved and raised my personal expectations to unreallistic levels just look back 2-3 seasons and that is what he inherited. I have full confidence in JJs ability and can't wait to see what happens next year. Just my .02
  23. I personally dissagree, i've seen some great games from him. Not up to his potential though.
  24. KTCK just reported Unjel left the team for personal reasons, does anybody have any detaills? Also how would they know about it if there wasn't some sort of release issued?
  25. This was in yesterdays UNT Notes section of the FWST by Chad Conine UNT seniors not giving up UNT men's basketball seniors called a players-only meeting after the Mean Green's 85-70 loss against Western Kentucky on Saturday. The message was that the team shouldn't give up on the season despite a 7-15 record and eight losses in the past nine games. Coach Johnny Jones said it was evident in practice that the message was received. "We played one of our better games of the year [against Western Kentucky], in terms of competing," Jones said. "Then we came back to practice and competed and played very hard. I think we're looking forward to our next game."
