ok... now we are talking. football weenie is showing some life after some extended hibernation...

Not going anywhere but to the party. and there will be much laughter. I didn't mean to imply YOU were reacting negatively towards a dt recruit... I apologize if I wasn't clear. THIS IS MERELY AN ATTEMPT TO illustrate how insane this board makes me, and that you truley are the voice of reason by standing on the sidelines and enjoying a funny aside or 2... I would like to take a second to celebrate the DT not-so-committment. 300 and up is a great thing to see in a prospect/recruit... gmg... and for the record, I like the qb as well. qb's from high school typically, but not always, bring some leadership to the table for the program...whether they are playing qb or some other position in college. Please stop the hate. try to love one another right now...
-
Quoner, you are my new leader. I can't take anyone else seriously. I believe YOU will lead us to a successful program. All you have to do is type it on this forum, and the administration at U of NT will do it. Please, show us the way. BTW, the Dodge hire date birthday is coming up. Are we going to have a party? Should we celebrate by saying that getting a not-so-solid verbal(aka not in writing) committment from a juco dt is grounds for firing him again? and why do we need a qb in a recruiting class? Do qb's deserve to be invited to the party? Help me Quoner. Help me...

You are all entitled to your opinions... and so am I. This fire fire fire crap is just making you all look very silly. If the administration comes to that conclusion... then so be it. But dear lord, this is just getting to be sad. I have been refraining from posting for a while. I'm sure I'll be told that is just fine by some of you. I'm ok with that as well. FACT: This is just dumb...er..that is an opinion...err...uh...I'm going to slump over in my chair and vomit a little on myself now that I've wasted 30 seconds typing this email err....post...uh...give up....

Not implying recruiting would be any different...just repeating what I've read others saying about our recruiting strategies this year by one of the more connected and informed members of this board... just want to see his system in a more mature state. You know... show some patience and see this thing get a true shake. Has Dodge done everything correctly...obviously not. Do I consider him an offensive genius right now? No. Not right now. You are sick of the Dodge apologist, fine.... I don't consider myself a Dodge apologist though. I think any new coach coming in should get to see his first recruiting class graduate before we give up on him... I'm personally sick of the fire fire fire fire fire mentality that seems to be showing up more and more.... vomit on that mentality. vomit i tell you... who should we get to replace him on our budget? Wade Phillips wouldn't have to move very far. and if he gets the axe from the cowboys, would he have a severence that would allow us to pay him peanuts/aka salary within our means? how long will you give this coach once he has trouble? fire fire fire! fire fire! fire fire fire fire! come on... even if this is the worst college football I've ever seen... his pushing for the stadium and assisting with getting the vote passed earns him the minimum amount of time we should give a coach...even if the results on the field don't point to that right now... love you all gmg end of next year, if things don't improve, then fire away with fire talk. I may even stop shaking my head every time I see something along those lines. After his forth year, I will join in. Right now, it is too early. Complain about the results, but please...for the love of everything holy...stop the fire fire fire or we shouldn't have fired the previous regime....

I didn't contribute during the Dickey era...so I'm not sure I'm qualified to speak to not firing the guy(but I will anyway cause this is a forum n stuff)... The alumni I've spoken with on this all said that Dickey produced basically no connection with the fans(both alumni and students)... He brought us 4 titles and 1 bowl victory. That is great. This kind of success should have generated momentum, but for some reason, it doesn't appear to be the case... With Dodge's arrival, the buzz around the program was fun, and optimism was plentiful(UNT proportions of course). Yeah, the results have been terrible... Worse than I could have imagined. The good thing is that some people are actually mad about it instead of apathatic... I know on this board, there is nothing but anger because...lets face it, this board probably makes up most of the active support for this program. and you guys all really do give an 's'. With the promise of new facitilites and the yes vote, this is positive momentum. I no longer feel that this board is the only set of supporters the program has. Lets stay positive... Lets give Dodge one more year before calling for his head... I truley believe he should have until his first class of recruits graduates at a minimum(fall 2010)... Once that new stadium is in place, the coaching staff(whomever that will be) will have a recruiting advantage that no other coaching staff has ever had at UNT. Dodge is part of the reason for this getting built. These firing/shouldn't have fired Dickey threads, to me anyway, aren't really acknowledging this credit that I believe Dodge and Villareal deserve TOGETHER. I truley believe that Dodge should get to coach in this new stadium(that would be fall 2011 unless there are some delays...please god, no) I bet he would be successful. Right now we just have to stay patient. Dickey was successful for a period of time, but Dodge appears to have generated more ACTUAL INTEREST...(ok, here is my point...ready...)which in the long run is more important than the 4 straight titles... Yes, at this stage in our program, INTERST AND BUILDING COMPETITIVE FACILITIES IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN SUCCESS ON THE FIELD. Now, success on the field will help generate MORE INTEREST...but right now, even if Dodge is just a freakin politician and doesn't post a winning season before then, lobbying for even more interst and contributions from the alumni, that, more than anything else, will ensure long term success... This next recruiting class would start playing in the new stadium as Juniors/redshirt-sophomores... The stadium will finally be in the recruiting pitch for Dodge... The next year, Sophmores/redshirt-freshmen... the next year(gasp), true freshmen... See what I mean? Our pitch becomes more and more attractive to young men coming out of high school. Better student athletes equals better team. It is coming. I've seen threads posted about the offers we have out, and the level of players we are going after... Imagine, if you will, winning these battles even half of the time. Dodge needs time. Dodge is a major reason this is possible....lets let him go through this recruiting progression. I can't wait! In the mean time, we are going to suck it up as a fanbase and ride this out... We can all work on getting our tailgating scene up to tops in the state... Bar-b-que and Beer is a great thing to practice for when we are ready to compete as a bonafide football program in div 1 college football.

New York Times Article About The Drug Article

Can you imagine how nice it would be to complain about not winning by a large enough margin? Just for the record... 11 points is not too much....and not too little... It is just right because it isn't a negative number! -
we will be legitimate contenders for these guys once the new facilities are in place. right now, I'm not holding my breathe.... 3:10 update....a SMU 3* "solid" verbal commit WR is still being recruited heavily and is visiting elsewhere....He lists interest in NT among others..don't know if NT is pursuing him or not. Oh I would love to get a recruit that SMU had a commit from like last year with DaWaylon.

Didn't coop(aka the higher authority) start off as drive time for the ticket on day one? I remember he was drive time for a while atleast... I think. I've killed a lot of braincells since then...
-
The Ticket could be a bit more sportsy...BUT atleast they talk about stuff relevant to this area instead of everything that appeals to the biggest markets accross the country... Mike and Mike are ok, but they are going to appeal to those markets. It is just basic strategy to achieve national ratings... Therefore, I'm a P1 by default... The goofiness is fun sometimes, but it can get old. The stuff that really bugs me is when they talk about american idol(aka american anthrax) or dancing with the stars(aka dancing with sars). that is when I truley turn them off and spin some tune-age

All this goes back to us giving the new Regime the time it takes to put things together. Patience and support. That should remain our motto through the construction of the new stadium... I can't tell you how much better things are going to be if we can just realize how things will improve if we just stick to this. Sometimes you just have to ride out the bad times and just try to find something to appreciate out of it. I think Georgy has done an excellent job highlighting some logical points. UNT was not in a position to overcome even a small downturn in the reloading process... The future is bright as long as we all contribute and stay patient...consistently each year. Consistent support and interest will correct our football program recession and take us back to where we know we can go. The more we care as a fanbase, the more attractive our program looks to young men coming out of High School. We can all do our jobs by recruiting back our alumns friends that have lost/never had faith in it. I know I'll be bugging the holy crap out of my friends I will see at Homecoming this weekend. Can't wait!

Things are not going well on the field right now at all... worst I've ever seen. I STILL believe you should give a coaching staff 2 years before you start looking at game results. This is the last season with training wheels...or no expectations. Next year, I believe things should count. I will only entertain firing arguements after bad results end of next season. until then, I won't even listen to fire the coach talk. and yes, the stadium momentum should be taken into consideration when pondering perception of our football program's direction... without the dodge buzz that began last year, this vote wouldn't have happened. that buzz may be gone now... but we still have to wait and see if this stadium momentum can help dodge in any way. IN THE LONG RUN, if dodge leave's here after next season and did nothing but lose...but leaves a stadium progress behind. his tenure is STILL A SUCCESS.... sounds weird, but he would be leaving the program in better shape than he left it.

Did you mean misery's or Missouri's?
-
I'm personally going to start supporting utd cause atleast they are still undefeated... please god... let this pass????
-
Can anyone share the significance of the 23 yardlines on the mini-field painted on the main entrance to beautiful Fouts Field? Please excuse me for not knowing this if it is common knowledge.
-
as bad as this has been...and I don't think I've ever seen anything worse than this season... we should still only begin to watch w/l next year. if by the end of next season, we are still doing this... I'll be ready to go a different direction.

Vizza's toughness may be the lone bright spot in this game. He had another signature run where he lowered the boom on a member of the opposing secondary... got knocked silly. looked about as woowsie as you can... and he never stopped giving his all. very impressed with this young man...even with these results. The lance dunbar hit was scary looking from the stands. one second he is pulling off a big gainer...and next second he is on the ground and not moving with the opposition running the other way with the ball.

Wow, I thought I was knee-jerking this morning... Is this Mike Rhyner joining the board?

Best point made since yesterday's debacle... time will help cure this... I'll step away from the edge... -
Vizza did run the ball with a marion barber type mentality.... I was even impressed with him as a leader not shying away from contact. Obviously it didn't help, but early in that Tulsa game he just flat ran over their safety early in that game. maybe not the way you want your qb to run the ball. but it was one of the few bright spots in that game, and that can generate momentum... however... Riley does bring a different dimension to qb I do think speed at QB will help tremendously with this offense. If you spread out the field and can hit passes, once the pocket breaks down, a fast qb should be able to make a spy linebacker or safety miss.... and if you have to dedicate a spy, that is one fewer backer to cover shallow crossing routes by slot recievers and backs... I know this is a different world in terms of team talent, but Troy smith and Vince Young were elusive/flat out fast. There is nothing more demoralizing than covering all wr's and getting pressure on a qb for a crucial 3rd or 4th and long and the qb scrambles for the 1st to continue a drive... I'm not ready to give up on Vizza yet... but Riley is just quicker and faster than Vizza. Riley's speed was key to why he was sooooo very successful in high school in that system. He won't be that much faster, if at all, to lb's and safeties in d1, but Riley will force different pursuit angles and they won't be able to close him as quickly as Vizza. I guess another example is Chase Daniel. Very good athlete in addition to an accurate passer. He sometimes continues drives by himself. The talk was that Riley is a better athlete than Daniel. Don't know if that is true, but I am more interested than ever to see how this offense would change with a faster, more athletic qb.

I think we should hold out for Wade Phillips as the new D coordinator once Jason Garrett takes over. That would solve everything. -
Everyone should relax... I mean, if we lose out we could get Beanie Wells in the draft... Or a really solid outside linebacker to put some serious pressure on the qb..
-
Rice and Tulsa should be a very interesting matchup. I would give an edge to Tulsa. But, we only lost by 30 to T-L-U-S-A... If we could just get Tom Hicks to get some freakin pitching in here, we might be able to complete...I mean our offense is ok... kill me...
-
I'm going to play captain obvious this morning... If I were you, I'd stop reading the dmn if you are looking for a negative slant on smoo. also, humans need oxygen to survive... and I like steak.

failure is what we have done so far... this is the beginning of not failing. a terrific fall isn't possible here... if we "fell" from here, we probably couldn't refer to it as a fall...more of a lateral move.
