Which Conference do you pull for more in 2012? SBC or C-USA?
SHOSS replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
tough call... will likely root for both...except smu. outside of them, will likely root for both, but I will likely pay more attention to the cusa members not moving on -
heard it... so, I would guess he gets like 2 pre-season scrimmages(at the most) to make his case. We'll see. Give it to 'em Lance!

so.... 2 sentences of glory...one pointing out that he was active, and the other describing the pick six that was overturned by a penalty. Git 'em Craig! http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2012/08/defense_has_a_very_productive.html

And SHOSS thought to himself "Please don't let it involve OUR NEW HEAD COACH"
-
Being able to attend practice is up to the head coach. Trust in Mac. He should have plenty of cred with us after last season, as long as we take another step forward. Sorry for picking on you UNT90, but I think you meant COULDN'T care less. Sorry, I know my grammer isn't always stellar, but this one bothers me....other than that, I agree with your stance.

underlying message...trust in this coaching staff's ability to evaluate high school players... and more importantly, trust in this coaching staff's ability to develop young men into very good college division 1 football players... at this point, our coaching staff has my faith...until proven otherwise. go mean green

Which true freshman will make the biggest impact
SHOSS replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I, too, am picking big sir. Git 'em big sir! -
This might be the least shocking news I have ever read about... Well, once delgado graduates, he can step in... someone else is gonna get their shot this year.

looks like sheridan has it at 43 points... http://www.usatoday.com/sports/gaming/sheridan.htm btw, does anybody else think that duke being 4 point favorites over Florida Internation is a layup bet, if I were a betting man? Go mean green

Who scores the 1st Touchdown this year and how ?
SHOSS replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Football
Jimmerson, pass to the flat makes one guy miss, then off to the races -
meh, just hope the team stays very focused and wins... blogs and articles and all the other crap is just noise...

During their senior years, these kids are gonna get rated by rivals and scout. Some may get bumped up as high as a 3 star. I believe a couple of our commits were upgraded during the fall last season after starting off either not rated or as 2 star recruits.... if memory serves...

New UNT FB Commit: OL Harrsion Sorge, Wichita Falls Rider
SHOSS replied to NT03's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
This is good stuff... I think they are taking the best players available and committing to UNT. I am starting to think that along with a good coaching staff at UNT comes molding your plan of attack to what your strengths are... I am gonna bet that with O line obviously a priority, we might actually have a healthy QB for more games...and have a running game that can compete. Against those bigger programs, depth and wearing down is what causes the smaller programs to wilt if you happen to have some sort of a miracle lead... depth in the o-line might help tremendously with the potential for an upset... obviously we need the same sort of depth up front on the d-line... we'll see... I bet with this type of depth, Chico can do some pretty decent things too... what have we bitched about for the past 8 years, we need to recruit size and speed...well, the size is there...maybe not "top end" type of commits, but this is size and hopefully coachable kids with motivation/work ethic. I trust in DMAC until it is proven we shouldn't at this point. last season bought some serious faith equity... Love the size. -
Holy Crap! DMac wasn't lieing when he said he wanted to get started early this year. This is quite a roll they've been on. 2 6'5" OL kids. This has been a fun week in a long offseason. Sorry, but 1 RB(xfer from purdue), 1 WR/TE(xfer from texas), then all from HS: 1 dual threat QB, 1 WR, 2 OL, 1 Safety, 2 LB's... Nice.

And rest easy, North Texas fans, Schilleci is already working on some of his Guyer teammates, including 2013 three-star wide receiver Ellis Jefferson and Jerrod Heard, who could end up being one of the top quarterback prospects in the country for 2014. “That’d be extremely cool if a lot of local kids started going there [uNT],” Schilleci said. “I was talking with Jerrod and E.J. today. I think Jerrod is going to their camp pretty soon, and I thought how cool would it be if we all went there and [helped establish UNT’s program].” This kid committing is cool in itself, but this other part makes me very happy in addition... Start chatting it up with some of the linemen. How about some DT's and DE's...I think there have been some really good ones from Denton over the past couple of years...

I am going with the oline(sorry for not picking a player). I think under mac these guys are gonna get push and keep the qb upright. Which makes for a good year for the offense.
-
If he chooses to play for the Mean Green and is as motivated as it appears the rest of the roster is under McCarney's watch, this would be a very good pickup for the Mean Green. Quite frankly, the way our o-line is shaping up these days, it may be a great time to be a QB for the Mean Green. We just need some continued improvement from the WR and TE positions. I think the RB's will be very functional(maybe even better as a group) in the post Lance Dunbar era.... ok, maybe I'm a bit drunk from cool-aid, but it really does seem like a place that a QB can step in a be successful in the post DT era. Given that he buys in and works his tail off in the classroom and on the field here. I can't really compare UNT to FIU as far as a good place for a QB to come in, but I think we've got a lot of selling points right now....for a QB to come in here.
-
So, according to Rivals.com, our earliest commit was Roderick Lancaster...a 3* receiver, on June 20th for the 2012 class. When will we have our first commit for 2013? I know Mac has said he was already starting on 2013 prior to signing day for the 2012 class. Any chance there are already commits out there as of yet undiscovered? Does anybody know of any summer clinics scheduled for this summer? Go Mean Green!

NT recruits by players transferring from other shool
SHOSS replied to OldTimer's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
serious question(cause recruiting is serious business in my opinion). Once a player is in college with another program for 2 or even just 1 year, are their * ratings by rivals and/or scout relevant anymore? I would submit no. Playing time/stats at said previous program should be the way to sell how good the player is...and reason for leaving the program... Anyways, here's to hoping we see some high school commits soon. The quiet is starting to scare me a little bit. These transfers, to me anyway, resemble juco kids. I still MUCH MUCH prefer to build a program with 4 years(or redshirt 5) players... Yeah, I guess this is stating the obvious, so...sorry? Go Mean Green -
welcome to unt Reggie http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/archives/2012/05/reggie-peagram-transferring-to.html, now about that hardship waiver...
-
At this point, I'm not holding my breathe. If we got this guy, it would be quite a kickstart for our entrance into cusa. Could be a good to great successor for the post DT era.
