  1. What if Eleanor Roosevelt could fly?
  2. Now that tradition has been breached, how long until Boise unveils an all-blue floor?
  3. Let's make sure Santiago stays clear of it.
  4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruth_Buzzi I knew this (I have the video - Richard Moll of "Night Court" fame is also in it): But I didn't know this: Oh no, another Southlake connection!
  5. Yes, I should have made that clear. But it does sum up the future of the remaining WAC schools, especially Idaho.
  6. Mozart: "Confutatis maledictis" - when the wicked are confounded. "Flammis Acribus Adictis." How would you translate that? Salieri: Consigned to flames of woe. Mozart: Do you believe in it? Salieri: What? Mozart: A fire which never dies, burning you forever? Salieri: Oh yes.
  7. And please try to get to your seats by kickoff, if not for the pre-game show!
  8. My friends had to cancel, and I haven't found replacements, so I have 3 tickets for Rice available - 2 of my 4 tickets in section E, plus one extra ticket that's waiting on call. I don't know exactly where that extra seat is, but the ticket office said they would try to make it near my regular seats. Send me a PM.
  9. Oy, I would have never thought of that name myself! But you need to change your avatar. The one you have looks like it was taken at a Bar Mitzvah reception. If you have photoshop, you could take Mean Joe's NT photo, and superimpose the face of Robby Benson as a Chasidic Jew from "The Chosen". And that fried rice... better come from "Shang-Chai", the Kosher Chinese restaurant Good Yom-Tov!
  10. LOL! +1
  11. Don't know why this didn't occur to me before...
  12. Sept 1st, 1979 - NT crushed UTEP 35 - 0 at Fouts. I could have sworn that the score was 49-3, but every site on the web I can find says I have a bad memory...
  13. Anything wrong with Eagle Point?
  14. Yes, yes... But it takes a core group who has the time to be the leaders, AND support and guidance from the Alumni Association. I don't have time to lead, but I'm more than willing to follow.
  15. I wish we had 30-40 people... It was more like 20, and the rest of the people had nothing to do with NT - the manager on duty let them take prime tables in what was supposed to be a private room. Unfortunately, I don't have time anymore to arrange game-watching parties for what is now a non-functioning alumni chapter. It was easy to get 20 or so people back when we were winning, and when the games were only on GamePlan (meaning that people would come to a game watching party rather than paying to watch at home). But the Clemson game is on ESPNU. If enough of us want to get together, I'll come, and probably can convince some friends to come as well. Part of the problem is that we're so spread out - SW Houston/Sugar Land, 249/1960, The Woodlands, Kingwood, Clear Lake/Galveston... But I didn't care for Texadelphia - the TVs are too small, and we wouldn't have a dedicated area to watch our game. Besides, the two times I've gone there to try to watch a game, they said they would have it, both times the game was blacked out - they didn't make an effort to find out. Here's a few other choices: - We could try Fox & Hound again - SRO at Northwest Mall - they've always treated us pretty well - Buffalo Wild Wings - if someone knows the manager at one, maybe they'd give us a big screen. This would also be a good choice to have smaller local gatherings, since there's quite a few in the Houston area.
  16. Wow, it's hard to top that - but here goes: Spencer Benton: Rod Stewart:
  17. I don't know that it's right to name the stadium after someone that's living - I remember when UT added "Darrell K. Royal" to "Texas Memorial Stadium", there were some who thought the name was "Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium", and commented "when did Darrell Royal die?" Even if it isn't a "Memorial Stadium", that rules out Mean Joe Greene Stadium and Abner Haynes Stadium in my book. If the Rec center hadn't already been named for Norval Pohl, that would probably be my vote. But otherwise, I think Odus Mitchell Stadium is the best idea I've heard. A long time from now (I hope), I will be in favor of renaming it Rick Villareal Stadium, since I credit him with finally fulfilling our dreams. I want to suggest a wildcard, a name that no one else has mentioned: Francis Stroup. Not only is he the composer of our fight song, he is a member of the NT Athletic Hall of Fame (inducted in 1987 - basketball). Yes, as far as I know, he's still alive! Maybe he wouldn't be the ideal person to name the stadium for, but surely something could be named for him.
  18. My condolences, Rick.
  19. I didn't mean to imply that they were proud to call it Cougar High - quite the opposite. They probably wish they could have gone to UT, A&M, or just anywhere else - away from home. Familiarity breeds contempt. I know the feeling - I grew up in Stony Brook NY, and was expected to go to SUNY Stony Brook. Even in 1978, it had a great reputation as a science & research school. But I wanted to get away, to major in music, especially at a school with a jazz program. It took a year to convince my parents to let me go to NT. I sometimes forget about that year at Stony Brook U.
  20. I vote "NO" to the current WAC. I would also vote "NO" to a WAC with an eastern division which included TSU-SM & UTSA - might as well stay in the belt if we're going to play schools moving up. I don't see any CUSA teams, with the possible exception of UTEP, going back to the WAC. And they're not likely to - just as LA Tech won't go back to the Belt because they want to distance themselves from ULM, UTEP wants to distance themselves from NMSU. So only a WAC with an eastern division which included ArkSt & ULL would be a possibility. As for Troy & MUTS, that's spreading things out too much. Keep it west of the Mississippi. It's probably best to stay in the belt until CUSA breaks up and true regional realignment is possible.
  21. Even UH alums I work with call it Cougar High - and they attended in the glory days of Bill Yeoman, Guy Lewis, & Phi Slama Jama.
  22. Greeks playing soccer? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92vV3QGagck
  23. It certainly worked for JJ with Rich Young. Young's journey takes him from Iraq to NCAA tourney
