Thanks to all of our veterans for their service, including those in the Mean Green nation: - I know we have at least a few veterans on GMG (although the only one I can specifically remember is DeepGreen) - thanks to all of you. - Thanks to Ryan Boutwell's dad, and any other Mean Green athletes who have family in the military - Thanks also to veterans who have also been Mean Green athletes - I know that we've had both a football and a basketball player in recent years who were veterans.

While "If you build it, they will come" may not necessarily be true, "If you don't build it, they won't come" is much more true. On the surface, it does seem suspicious. But Troy was able to upgrade their stadium within the past 10 years, and is surviving. Is Troy not under the same Board of Trustees? What about South Alabama upgrading their program to FBS - again, are they not under the same Board of Trustees? What if UAB was in the SunBelt, or was FCS - would they be allowed to build a new stadium then? I know, there's no answer for a hypothetical question like that. It makes me even more thankful that we finally have Apogee Stadium.

Bad for us, but SJSU & USU to MW and LA Tech & NMSU to CUSA would certainly kill off the WAC. I've heard the same thing about the UTEP/NMSU relationship, so it doesn't seem likely. Idaho will be the biggest loser in realignment.

That was 1980. No, I was on cymbals that year. The synthesizer was featured on an obscure (even then) Barbara Streisand tune called "I Ain't Gonna Cry Tonight". And then the best part of the show - we did a "Best Little Whorehouse" medley! I have a picture of the 1980 band in my gallery: My Gallery

I got Shanghai-ed to push one of those amplifier carts in 1982, when I was the equipment manager/truck driver for the band - they couldn't get anyone else to do it! I think 1980 was the first year we had the synthesizer, and I think the bass was added in 1982. I don't know when they stopped using it. Why did they stop using it? Probably because the amplifier carts were so heavy, and were not very mobile. Each cart had a large Peavy amplifier with two 15" speakers, four car batteries, and an inverter. It likely also was that the synthesizer just became obsolete, and they decided to stop using it, rather than invest more money. And it also likely coincided with the drum line starting to do actual formations, not just marching forwards & backwards between the sidelines. That's all that the carts did as well (go forwards & backwards). The halftime show in 1981 was fun - we did an arrangement of Bach's Toccata & Fugue in D minor using the synthesizer. A Bruce Hall friend, and one of the original "Zebras", Mike "Spunky" Brunone, was the keyboard player that year. With all of the mallet percussion, tympani, etc. in front of the band, sure, why not bring it back? - without the marching!

We could build replicas of the Monitor and Merrimack, flood the lower bowl, and have a naval battle!
