  1. Blame it on Rio.
  2. Do you really expect Netflix to still be in business in a year or two? They already have taken a big hit with their PR goof last year, trying to split the mail & online business, and to charge for both. TIVO faded away once the cable & satellite companies recognized the demand for DVRs and started supplying them. I expect the same to happen with Video On Demand and Netflix. And even if the cable/satellite companies don't have a monopoly, there's still plenty of competitors - like Amazon, and likely Google. I'll throw this one out - how about distribution through Wireless carriers' 4G networks?
  3. Just curious... You're obviously on the underwriting side, are you with an agency or a company? I worked in insurance IT for over 20 years, for software vendors, MGAs, and companies. I've been working in the collections business IT for the last 6 - boy do I miss insurance.
  4. Are all of the rooms named for racehorses? I know that Oaklawn Park is somewhere nearby. Cool!
  5. Brain the size of a planet, and all I have to read about is Conference Realignment... Actually, a very good article - thanks!
  6. Playoffs. I have this bad feeling that this may be the seminal event which causes the AQ - "Mid-Major" schism that many have been expecting to happen. The CUSA/MWC presidents might as well just invite all the SunBelt, MAC, and WAC schools to join, and call it the I-AA conference. No one will ever get near a major bowl now.
  7. Prayers for Mac and his family. Harry, can you make this the "official thread" (pin it, I suppose) so we have one place to look for updates? Maybe merge the other threads in?
  8. I remember the announcers on CSS last night saying something to the effect of "Isaiah Thomas got to know Tony Mitchell when TM was going to the prep school here" (in Florida), and "he (Isaiah Thomas) thought he would get TM to go to FIU." Wishful thinking, or trying to talk up his recruiting reputation? Either way, it was absurd.
  9. Those of us in Houston can watch it! Comcast Sports (CSS) is carrying it - ch 129. I didn't realize it starts at 6pm - I would have missed half the game if I didn't search the web to see if it was available in Houston. I'll either be at the Sugar Land Ragin' Cajun restaurant - if they'll put the game on - or my friend's house (I have DISH, he has cable).
  10. How many minutes?
  11. That was a great Super Bowl commercial. talking about taking a thread off track!
  12. I'm surprised that the Chronic-Ill had a score at all - that's one of the reasons that I no longer subscribe (there's plenty of others). Even if we're playing UH or Rice, it's hard to find a story, so it's the last place I would think of looking.
  13. A prep school named for the Don of chocolate syrup? It must have high academic standards!
  14. Got it now.
  15. Anyone else having problems getting the kntu.com stream?
  16. It's a cookbook!
  17. It's the MUTS so... "Adopt a Dog" night, sponsored by KNTU Adopt a dog Adopt a big dog Unless you live In an apartment... I don't think I've heard that PSA this year, but unfortunately it's ingrained in my brain and associated with Mean Green basketball.
  18. I read it as "Fat Tire", and thought this was another beer thread.
  19. Absolutely. I only made it to the pavilion once (the first game), and my wife wouldn't go at all, since it meant either climbing over the hill, or walking almost the entire way around the stadium. If you have a green parking pass, great, but otherwise... It made me feel all of my 51 years to make that hike.
  20. A guy in my office who lives in Katy and is up on Katy Football (at least, he knows who Mike Stojkovic is), came up to me today and said that he heard TD is going to be hired at one of the Katy ISD high schools. He was pretty excited about it. I don't know which one - I should have listened closer - but I don't think it's the Katy Tigers. There are something like 7 high schools in Katy ISD. I told him about the Marble Falls rumor. So it sounds like TD has interviewed several places. It does seem pretty certain TD will be coaching at a Texas high school next year. BTW, the guy's mom is a UNT alum, so I keep him up to date on the Mean Green.
  21. Don't know if anyone had previously posted this, but Houston Baptist is starting a football team and joining the Southland. Houston Chronicle - HBU accepts invitation to join Southland Conference I guess the Southland had to reload somehow.
  22. So if the PAC 12 & Big 10 won't play mid-majors, then I guess it's time for the mid-majors to boycott them.
  23. Thanks for sharing! Wow, a scholarly paper on Jews and Chinese food! Wonder if they got a government grant? Having grown up on Long Island, and with the rest of my family still living there, I offer this observation: No strip mall on Long Island is complete unless it has a Chinese take-out, a Pizza Parlor, and (at least since the 80's) a nail salon. I liveed in Park Slope for two years before moving back to Texas, and in reverse-commuting to Long Island, used to pass this restaurant almost every day: Shang Chai Kosher Chinese Restaurant Never ate there (never was that curious), but it always gave me a laugh! As for "Eight Crazy Nights", I guess it was crazy if you got presents every night. I didn't, and I don't know anyone else who did, so no, it wasn't crazy. For better or worse, Chanukah is a Christmas substitute.
  24. Pun intended? +1, regardless.
