  1. Oh, just in the past few years. The ones north of Fairfield just opened last year. The best one is the one between Madisonville & Huntsville on the southbound side, which has the pond. The interactive education leaves a bit to be desired - usually the screen is displaying a boot-up error!
  2. The game showed up on DISH in Houston last night on one of the alternate channels, but it's gone now. Of course, I'm going to be there, but I was hoping to record it...
  3. A traffic warning for tomorrow - I heard on the news heading to the pep rally that the Houston Dynamo have a home game tomorrow at 7: 30pm. The soccer stadium is just off of US 59 downtown, more or less across from Minute Maid Park, and not far from where 59 crosses I-45. It shouldn't be a problem before the game, especially if you come early to tailgate, but depending on how long soccer games last, both games could end around the same time.
  4. I'm bad at estimating crowd sizes, but I'm guessing anywhere from 200 - 400, based on that the crowd was similar in size to the Green Brigade (who was there). One of the best attended UNT events I've been to in Houston. It was held in a tent close to the size of a football field, and it felt about half full. It was a mix of out-of-towners staying at the hotel and Houstonians. Hank, RV, Mac, the VP for the Advancement office, and Derrick Morgan (Alumni Association director) spoke (decent PA system - you could hear them), and Mac had the captains say a few words. Lots of spirit, helped out by the Green Brigade, cheerleaders, and dancers. One awkward thing towards the end - Hank mentioned Mattress Mac's donation "that started the ball rolling" (as best as I can remember, that's how he put it), but Mac was not there, and it seemed like a spur of the moment thought to mention it. I'd say that Mac is still not on good terms with NT. Not that it should be a surprise to anyone who lives in Houston - Mac has a way of moving from one pet project to another anyway.
  5. LOL! +1
  6. I'm planning to bring my chairbacks, so I hope there's no issue with bringing them. I live in Sugar Land, so I went on a "reconnaisance mission" to UH last Sunday to check out the area. I stopped by the UH police station and picked up a map, and was told that visitors can park in the parking garage on Holman St. on the north side of the stadium. *** Edit - The garage is new, it isn't on Google maps satellite view. I think it will cost $20.00 BTW, it appears the best approach to the stadium for most will be from I-45, to take the Cullen Blvd exit. There is construction on Scott St. just north of Holman. If you're coming from the South or SW, then you could take S. Main to Old Spanish Trail (90A), and then turn north on Scott - that's probably what I'm goint to do. I've been told by someone who went to UH that MacGregor to Scott is also OK. But I don't suggest Alabama or Elgin - not major enough. Anyone in Houston more familiar with UH can correct me...
  7. Someone was asking about dippin dots a few weeks ago...if they go to the game they can get their fill, first at Buc-ees in Madisonville, then at the game!
  8. The Marriott is the team hotel.
  9. Correct on both. I was in the marching band that year. The OSU game was the most boring game I've ever seen (we lost 9 - 3), and the attendance was pathetic. It was during the State Fair, and somebody had the idea to have a country music concert after the game. It was a name Country act (for the time - don't remember who), and they couldn't wait to start the show (the game probably took longer than they thought) - they started as soon as the clock ran out, and we never got to play "Glory to the Green". Lot of "ifs" here... - if Hayden Fry had gotten us into the SWC, and we hadn't been sent to purgatory - if this game & concert still had occurred, and the game & attendance had been good then maybe we would have had an ongoing series at the state fair with OSU... ...can't change the past.
  10. i have two "extra" tickets (due to dropouts in my group) I can sell you - send me a PM.
  11. My +3 is now down to +1. Why don't people check their calendars beforehand?! So I now have two tickets available, if there's someone who has a need for more. Send me a PM if interested.
  12. Nolan Frese Rusty Griswold
  13. Kyle Bullard Martin Short as Ed Grimley
  14. Are we all in section 224?
  15. I'll be going to the "pep rally" directly from work on Friday so I'll be by myself, but it'll be me + 3 for the game
  16. received mine yesterday.
  17. Call it "The Tony Mitchell Effect".
  18. I may have an extra - there's only 3 definites for my four seats. I'll send you a PM.
  19. Can the pedicabbies get people from the Red/Blue lot (or the bottom of the hill) around to the Alumni Pavilion (Green lot)?
  20. My wife & I are coming from Sugar Land, picking up a friend in Conroe on the way.
  21. Some evidence that a lot of parents are coming for family weekend - according to these chain's websites, there are no rooms available this weekend at the Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, Homewood Suites, and the two La Quintas. Of course, I don't know how many will go to the game, but if there are flyers about it, then the parents know about it.
  22. I'm taking M-W as vacation and driving up from Sugar Land. Anyone else get an invitation in the mail to this? UNT College of Music Gala: UNT Symphony meets UNT Jazz: an afternoon of symphonic music, jazz, and American standards. http://music.unt.edu...5&detail=121773 Good planning to have this on the Sunday before the game, but there should be cross-marketing so out-of-town people know that they could go to this on Sunday, and the game on Tuesday.
  23. Has Vito been watching Necessary Roughness again? Manumana: Where I come from, Mr. Blake, we're taught to respect our elders. Paul Blake: Oh yeah? Well, I'm not that *eld*, alright?
