HBU just started playing football in 2013: Whatever It Takes: Houston Baptist University Turns to Football to Build a Name. They got lucky and were asked to join the Southland when TSU-SM & UTSA left. They played their first year at Strake Jesuit's stadium. They now have half of a stadium, at the corner of Beechnut & Fondren: Google Maps I've been wondering if they own the land where the CVS is. A long time ago, there was a Putt-Putt and a driving range there. HBU apparently has ambitious expansion plans. It could only help Sharpstown, which is still a hellhole since the 80's oil bust. But I digress...

Ask your wives and girlfriends why they like Buc-ees: 1) Clean and large bathroom - no waiting 2) It's not a truck stop Not to mention the food and other stuff for them to buy...

I'm certainly no BBQ connoisseur, but I've had a lot worse than Pappa's - at least at the 59 & Bellaire location. Of course, I've had a lot better, as well. But I guess they over-did things about two weeks ago! WE ARE UNFORTUNATELY CLOSED DUE TO A FIRE My local favorite is The Swinging Door in Richmond.

MUTS and WKU are so geographically close together that they need to be in the same conference / division.

Was there a Nathan Tune sighting? Or, maybe even a Ray sighting?

Nope. I take it you've sorted it all out. Here's the NT Daily article from 2004: https://texashistory.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metapth145150/m1/9/

Southern Miss writer suggests blowing up C-USA
Stix replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
Funny how the author included every CUSA and Sun Belt school except one - ULM. -
Mattress Mac hasn't completely removed himself from NT. He attended an event at an influential alum's house the night before the FB game at Rice two years ago. I wasn't at the event before the BB game at Rice this spring, but it wouldn't surprise me if he attended that. I still think that the "high road" for him would have been to name the practice fields for Andrew Smith. The relationship between Mac and DD is well know, but there's probably a lot of newer GMG members who aren't aware of the relationship between Mac, Andrew, and Andrew's family, and that Mac paid for the entire FB team to be flown down to attend Andrew's funeral in Bay City.

This is probably the most important hire in our history
Stix replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I understand, but I am concerned that a new AD will come in and want to change everything not dictated by the university, branding wise. I hope the brand can be improved without changing it. - I know that there are some who never have liked emphasizing "Mean Green" over "Eagles", but Mean Green is unique (albeit not well protected outside of collegiate sports), and all it will take is a good SID to resolve the "chicken or the egg" problem with Mean Joe. We are the Mean Green, and our mascot is Scrappy the Eagle.* - I know that there are some which would prefer us to be known as "UNT" instead of "North Texas", but for me, "North Texas" emphasizes continuity of the history of the school. No, "North Texas" didn't look good on a helmet; it took too long, but RV finally put the SOW on the helmets. Stick with it, don't change it to "UNT". Similar to the Alabama/Crimson Tide analogy, it's OK for UC Berkeley to call themselves "Cal" for sports, so... - Speaking of the SOW, I'm not worried that it might go away, as that is part of the university branding. And it does somewhat provide continuity to the "Flying Worm". But... whatever happened to the 3D version of the SOW that was supposed to be added? - And maybe we'll be spared changing to yet another shade of green, since that is also part of the university branding. * OK, that's something that needs to change - retire Eugene Levy Scrappy and get a new costume much more like the one before! With a jersey! -
Is he related to Ernie?

Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center No, not the old mansion in the picture - there's an arena.

[Large corporate boardroom filled with suited executives] Exec #1: Item six on the agenda: "The Meaning of Life" Now uh, Harry, you've had some thoughts on this. Exec #2: Yeah, I've had a team working on this over the past few weeks, and what we've come up with can be reduced to two fundamental concepts. One: People aren't wearing enough hats...

Which brings to mind - it used to be common (in the 80s, anyway) for the Talons to have cowbells. What ever happened to that? Oops, I think I just opened a can of (flying) worms.

Reading Hank's bio, apparently he's been here since before RV. Can anyone fill in why he was brought in (radio?), and how he worked his way up to Deputy Athletic Director?
-
Which is what I thought would happen with RV. So... time to move on to the next potential candidate.

Dan Patrick and Bathrooms

At first glance, Mr. Smith's argument is a red herring. But actually he has inadvertantly brought up the bigger issue. It can be argued that children who identify as the opposite gender have psychological problems which need to be treated, and that to treat them with hormone therapy and possibly surgery to attempt to match their body to their perceived gender IS child abuse. -
Channel 392 on a DISH VIP722 box, it's an HD channel. Don't know what it would be on a Hopper.

I think I've seen BeIN on the DISH guide - I'll have to check tonight.

Poll: North Texas fan opinions on move to C-USA?
Stix replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Agreed. I would change the wording of the second choice to "...Not the same conference we thought we joined..." -
If you can't see the entire story because you're not a WSJ subscriber, search for the title using google, and click on that link.

Maybe that's Littrell's plan - make the opposing teams think that it's still McNulty out there. -
Littrell turns up the heat at his BBQ (cbs 11 coverage)
Stix replied to GMG24's topic in Mean Green Football
Actually, it's not that they call the food barbecue, it's that they call grilling food "barbecuing", aka "We're going to be barbecuing" or "We're having a barbecue". It doesn't matter what the food is - burgers, hot dogs, chicken, etc. -
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Well, actually, yes I could.

(channelling Emily Litella) What's all this fuss worrying about Harrell passing school? He's a coach, not a player! Oh, never mind...
