DRC Monday column: Time has arrived to give Smith a shot
glick1980 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I disagree with Vito on this point...Iowa is not an impossible situation. We should be able to compete admirably with a school like Iowa. I do not accept that we have no chance against them. Vito continually perpetuates the loser attitude of UNT. -
I second that!

Defensive Coordinator Chris Cosh Gets Mic'd Up
glick1980 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
One major problem I had with last year's defense was the OLB's turning their butts to the sidelines. It is refreshing to see him trying to rectify that in the video. -
UNT pro day tidbits, including some performances
glick1980 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Our strength coach, in addition to getting our players ready to play football, should put our players in a better position to have a professional football career. Those bench numbers are sad and pathetic and would easily push draftable players out of the draft.- 48 replies

MGB: Offseason questions series No.1 -- QB situation
glick1980 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree with everything except he did have good size. He was 6'4" and 220-230lbs. -
That is just the amount they increased their already existing fee. Their total student fee is $250 per semester.

MGB: UNT players passed over for NFL Combine
glick1980 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
In the grand scheme of college football, the New Orleans Bowl is a crappy bowl game, regardless if it is our line bright spot since returning to major college football. -
MGB: UNT players passed over for NFL Combine
glick1980 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I went to all four of those bowl games, those seasons were exciting and the bowl games fun, but in no way is it some miracle that we had that success. I expect us to win every game we play an I am disappointed when we do not. I have been disappointed many more times than not in the last decade. But I still expect wins. I guess I expect more than some. -
MGB: UNT players passed over for NFL Combine

It would be nice to have a beat writer that doesn't think going to 4 crappy bowl games in consecutive years is some "miracle" they they have to put in "quotes". -
Has everyone else given up on DW? I have not. Our coaches need to do a better job of putting him in a position to succeed by not running the option and not attempting a 7 step drop play action pass from your own goal line.

C-USA dealing with whether to pay athletes
glick1980 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I guess I just don't know how much the room and board portion of scholarships is valued at. Could it be close to 10k a year? Maybe, adding another 5k may make these kids owe some tax, I'm not sure. -
C-USA dealing with whether to pay athletes
glick1980 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
These amounts (along with the portion of of scholarships related to room and board, food, etc.) are all taxable income. Does anybody think any of these kids are paying taxes? -
So must think a kid that runs a 4.5 in the forty can run the 100 in 10 flat, huh? That's how your math works out. The only way a kid could run a 4.9 forty and sub 11 hundred meters would be if he had absolutely no idea about how to get out of his stance and was really much faster than 4.9. I ran a 10.9 in the hundred as a junior in high school and I had a 4.56 forty and the next year I ran a 10.7 with a 4.46 forty. Now we also times 40's during track season. If you had a 4.9 forty in August and then in April you run the 100 it may be more possible, however still highly unlikely.

Kids that run 4.9 in the 40 can't run high 10'a or low 11's in the 100 meters. If it takes 4.9 seconds to run 40 yards you can't run 70 more yards in 6 seconds (the 100 is in meters, not yards). Every .1 in the forty is about the equivalent of 1 step. .3 or .5 is three or five steps in a forty yard race. That is a huge difference.

The fact that they are going after the same recruits as we are is a pretty good indicator.
-
Getting a third of a second faster in the 40 is almost impossible over the course of one or even two years unless there is some type of massive weight loss.

Breaking — Sam Miller has decided to give up football

Well, may he burn in hell, aka Monroe. -
The AAC had 4 teams in the bottom 11 in a 10 team conference. They were atrocious in OOC games too.
