  1. My perception of Iowa State football is proably higher than most, I remember the 2001 season, and '02, little guy named Seneca Wallace had the nation and Big XII buzzing and I would have guessed 15th national ranking, didn't realize you had climbed as high as 9th. I have a cousin in Ankeny (sp) and he keeps me tuned in... But great point, perceptions don't change over night, everybody thought Boise was a one-hit wonder 2 yrs ago when they knocked off Oklahoma... Funny how that works... We would love to drop off those "Payout" games and I agree, increased revenues from the stadium, luxury boxes, club level, should help to offset our expenditures and allow us to re-examine that policy. All-in-all, we're so much closer to where everyone sees this program going and wants it to be, than we ever have in the past, and I have the utmost confidence we'll see an immediate improvement. Hell, Miami (Oh) went 1-11 last year and turned it around to 9-4 this year and a bowl game... There's no reason we can't hope and expect for similar returns on our investment. But good points nonetheless...
  2. Or perhaps I mis-typed... touche... Quick edit, and we're golden...
  3. He'll be on campus, in town, 250 days out of the year. He's not here to win over Denton, he's here to win football games. Our program needs to look beyond the small horizons of Denton. There's 2x as many people 7 miles south in Flower Mound/Lewisville, with 2x the the median income.
  4. Hello little box, let's stay right in here. You know, where everybody's comfy, our uniforms change every 3 yrs, as do the logo, color scheme, helmet design. And I never said all Black... Thanks for those words in my mouth...
  5. This would be nice. And regardless of the flame pictures, I still like Black Uni's... All white is boring. We looked like a HS team out there the past 4 yrs... My opinion, don't expect anyone to agree, all good. They're called suggestions for a reason. You know, open discussion.
  6. Touche. Does anyone not employed by the University think we're going to sell out Club Level Seating?
  7. Call me crazy, but I'd like to see a Black design of some sort as well, black out day for fans, whole nine yards... You know, where them once a year or so... We got to get the green thing figured out for sure, and I'm all for getting out from under UA, I think Nike does a better job of providing merchandise for consumer consumption, hats, t-shirts, polo's, whole nine yards...
  8. It does not. $3,125 is a one-time, contribution. It doesn't cover your mandatory $500 MGC donation. it's essentially a seat license, without calling it that. And only 80% of your one-time contribution can be written off. So for 1 season tickets in cheapest club level you're looking at per year for the first 5 yrs: $650 (One time donation broken out over 5 yrs) $350 Cost of Season Ticket $500 Min MGC donation That's 1500, for 6 home games, or roughly $250 per game, for one seat. That's a little too rich for my blood, right now at least, but I love the fact it's already 1/3 sold, I think the AD has to feel ahead of schedule on that front... Did anyone honestly expect them to sell out the club level seating options?
  9. I've been a MGC member for 5 yrs now, and I've never visited the deck. I'm not a beer guy, so flask has been SOP since I was a student. The deck just never held that much appeal to me, my seats were better for watching the game, I met up with anyone I wanted to in the Blue Parking lot at the Bus. I chalked up the $500 MGC donation as a way to get great parking and the cost to be the boss. At 31, with a 2 yr old and another due in Feb, and living in Florida right now, it totally makes Club level out of my reach, but trust, I'll be working my rear off for the next 5 years to come up with the $6K for the wife and I's 2 club level seats for when we return to the metroplex. I'll be purchasing a paver stone, re-upping my Alumni membership, MGC membership and grabbing 2 season tickets to the lower bowl, even though I'll be there for 1 game for sure. And who would've thought there'd be so much debate on the Scoreboard set-up... too funny. If you put it behind the wing, then you detract from the appeal the stadium has from I35, you know our marketing machine. I agree though, I thought the view from the AC to the stadium was going to be classy, all good, I'll be there in Sept, loving every second of it, enjoying the 15 concession stands and trying to use every toilet in the stadium. Go Mean Green!
  10. They already have, it's called the BCS. Anyway we can convince Mark to take over ownership of UNT?
  11. He's got far more important things to do then come on here and deal with a bunch of jackasses like us.... Is buying a house really an issue? What if he rents? is that unacceptable? Agreed he needs to be a part of the community, the UNT community.
  12. And you have the email address for everyone of those students, and as well, know where they're going to be at least 4 days a week. So how about hammering the inbox of every student, reiterating the cost of the game is free to them, selling the excitement of the new stadium and their chance to build a lifetime of memories on Fall Saturday's. How about posting those nice schedule posters in every dorm, every academic building, whole nine yards. Students, like alumni, have plenty of options on how to spend their time, it's the Athletic Depts job to get the word out, to let people know the when, where and who. Agreed, winning is the easiest way to encourage fans to come, but myopic thinking like winning is the only way to increase attendance, is very short sighted.
  13. I did not know this. Any reasons given or idea what the deal is?
  14. Not at all sir, I just believe it'll take the man a minute, as our friend from Iowa was saying as well and as they (Iowa St.) experienced in Dan's last stop. I'm as excited as anybody and respect and praise the efforts of the administration, as I made an entire post about it: http://www.gomeangreen.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=57912&st=0&p=536225&hl=excitement&fromsearch=1&#entry536225 I haven't mentioned Culture of losing in about 5 posts now. I can agree to disagree, all good, but read my post before you call me out.
  15. That pipeline just got so much shorter. Love it.
  16. I am, and 3 yrs is fair enough in my mind, even 4. 4-8 next yr is a success in a lot of ways next year, and provided we're actually building with young talent and seeing improvement, I'll be happy with the slow build methodology. And for reference, our last 6 yrs: 2-9 3-9 2-10 1-11 2-10 3-9 I will say there has been improvement since the 1-11 season where we were just not competitive, but it hasn't translated to wins. We had a ton of close games the past 2 yrs, at least 4 in 09, that we lost on last drive, final play type of scores, to lose a lead and the game. 4-8 is absolutely possible, we have playmakers, on both sides of the ball, and should have a surge of support that will at least translate to adrenaline. We could go 6-6 very easily as well, the SBC is so close, we beat the conference champs this yr. It'll be fun no matter what and I expect an immediate impact on the defensive side of the ball. Our offense under Canales tenure really expanded and seems ready to be explosive like we expected as well. All in all, exciting time to be a Mean Green Fan and I can't wait till Sept!
  17. Sounds like a solid hire from a program used to winning. And his ties to Texas recruiting, well that sell just got a whole lot easier to make.
  18. Amazing... Wonder if they have a donor to cover the cost? They probably have a payroll to meet.
  19. Congrats amigo! I got one coming in Feb. Building the fan base, one kid at a time
  20. Absolutely appreciate the 3rd party perspective with a unique vantage point. This has to have a deja vu feel for you? We're ultra optimistic by nature, kind of takes that perspective to be a Mean Green Fan the last few years. Reason we feel like expectation should be SBC champs, is b/c frankly, this isn't the Big XII. The gap between the top team and bottom team is not that wide and we were close in a lot of games the past 2 years, so many close losses it's beyond comprehension. I, for one, feel like we've just been missing the ability to find a way to win. Canales made an immediate impact, that was noticeable to all, and we feel like with some better defensive game plans and utilization of the current talent, we can compete for a SBC title immediately, which really isn't that far of a reach. I'd be thrilled with 6-6 and that's ultra achievable, but in reality, any improvement, even if it's 4-8, will be appreciated and viewed, at least by me, as progress. But I disagree, like any position, the more you pay, the more you expect. You expect all coaches to come in and compete and expect their teams to win and compete each week. Just like you expect all employees to come in and work hard every day. But to those you pay more, more is expected.
  21. Great Post. I'm extremely optimistic about our future, including next year, regardless of the tone I might come across with. Was looking for some good insight as to the reality of our situation, think you summed it up well.
  22. Bravo. Nail, meet Head.
  23. If you count on I35 to do your marketing, your toast. How many people from the metroplex drive up to old Oklahoma. Less than 5% maybe? Truck drivers will see you for sure. Friend, people know where UNT is, but those 3 you mentioned for selling points, the majority of the Metroplex does not know about! You think anybody outside of our bubble knows we're building a beautiful stadium, no. You think anyone outside of this board knows who our 1st game is against, no. Coaching change, same thing. Marketing, by definition, spreads the word about the positives you have to offer. Again, 95% of the metroplex, at the very least, has no idea A. We hired a new coach. B. We're building a new stadium. C. Who or when any of our games are. Until you start letting people outside the program know about your strengths, how do you expect them to show up? Just magically decide to drive up 35 and see what's going on? 5.75 million people, at the very least, live south of Denton in the Metroplex. How many of those travel north from the metroplex? A little targeted marketing makes sure as many of those 100K alumni in the area, along with an additional 35K student body, whom you have information for all of those listed, goes a long way in actually realizing the potential of the resources available. Just sayin
  24. What about 6 straight years of terrible records? We're not talking about an off year. We're talking about some of the worst performances in the 70 plus years of UNT football. We haven't found a way to win, with any consistency, so what else is left. If you lose, year in, year out, for 6 straight years, thru 2 different coaches, countless #'s of different players and even several different presidents, then my friend, you are left with a culture of losing. Again, all it takes is one winning season and the culture is changed. Do I think Coach Mac changes that culture, absolutely, but do not discount it, the culture of UNT football is losing, regardless of the efforts made to change it. Winning is the only way to remedy and change that culture. Period.
