Tony Mitchell In Process Of Enrolling @North Texas!
FloMoGrad replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Sounds like the risk is well worth the reward here. What risk do we really have here? We had a ship open already. We've got an already solid class coming in next yr. Kid has no background issues other than academic, i.e. nothing criminal. Talent level is off the chart. We have a system which has proven it can handle situations like these and others with some degree of success. I think this is a brilliant move, even his trying to get into UNT is a positive, if we say no, it means our academic integrity is intact, we tried, we get all the pub and in the end it's not our fault it doesn't work out... It's an NCAA issue. Win-Win all the way around, why JJ is a class guy and has us in the place we find ourselves in. -
True Story. Dude's on fire so far. Seems every recruit is linked to Gaines. Outstanding work so far indeed.
-
He projects as one heck of a WR as well, and mentioned coaching staff spoke to him about playing on either side of the ball. Might be our 2nd WR recruit and not out 3rd/4th safety. Or he could very well RS and add 15-20 lbs and play OLB, move speed closer to the line of scrimmage philosophy, Either way, heck of an athlete, love who we out competed to recruit him, and welcome aboard Torrance, glad to have you!
-
Or one heck of a wideout, considering we've signed a nice LB group. All around great athelete and the type of players we need to be finding. Another great addition to this class! Go Mean Green!
-
I love his frame, looks like a perfect transition DT, get him coached up and that's a force up the middle. Tall DT's disrupt the passing lanes and make it difficult for the opposing QB. Another good signing for the Mean Green.
-
Makes sense on paper. That'd still leave is with 4 DT's on the roster currently, with 2 more inked to come in. Add one more Juco and we're able to RS at least 1-2 and in great shape moving forward. I'm sure the biggest area of improvement will come on the D-Line. One would only assume as much given Coach Mac's history.
-
And I'll agree with that for the most part. Even at 5 DT's as we currently stand, we can afford to redshirt one, injury issues withstanding. Another year under a S&C coach further's their development. I'd still hesitate to call this dire if we have what looks to be a solid impact player coming in, as well as another solid commit, and 3 unproven players. We should find 2 that can play and one that can contribute from that group of 5... Ideally we'd have an impact Juco or two coming in, but don't rule that out, just won't be a mid-term transfer, may be a May or even August type player. Shavod came in late and did just fine. Any thoughts to moving LaChris Anyiam 6-4, 292, inside. That's a lot of hands and arms to throw over and around right in the middle of the field. I don't have the benefit of watching practices so I know nothing about him other than his physical #'s. Still a point of emphasis, DT, but in the end, I'm feeling better and better about this class as we go.

3 DT's on campus at this point: Abbe, Richard DT 6-4 357 Fr. Boutwell, Ryan DT 6-3 254 Fr. Cantly, Tevinn DT 6-4 336 So. We have 2 committed DT's this class, both HS, at least one looks like he's an impact player: Micah Thompson - DT, 6-5, 290, Jones High/OK Terell Brooks - DT - 6-4, 294, 4.83, Duncanville HS TX Unless I'm missing something, and one of the 3 on campus left at some point and haven't been removed from the AD website, then I'd say we're pretty good here, and adding another DT would be icing on the cake and allow us to RS at least 1-2 if possible. With 2 Sr starters, we don't really know what we have with the other 3 on campus until they get some battle time, to dismiss them and say it's dire because we lost both starters is a little overstated. If we had graduated both DT's and had no one behind them on the roster, then I'd say we're dire. But alas, if you think it's that dire, I think we'll sign one more DT this period, Juco, May graduate, just in case, an insurance policy on the 2 HS guy's we signed. GO MEAN GREEN! Shaping up to be an outstanding class!

Seriously, Euless and Lifer are so on point on recruiting it really makes me think they could act as unpaid consultants to the program in exchange for some tickets/gear/etc... Outstanding job gents, you both seem to have a finger on the pulse of recruiting in an almost uncanny way. Impressive.
-
For the most part I agree, but we've seen a flurry of activity lately and I'm guessing we'll see at least 1 more, but potentially 2 more Oline recruits signed. Keep the faith, we've got a lot to sell and some dreams will get dashed in the next few weeks allowing us to pounce on a lot of schools back-up plans.
-
A yr or two delay in this decisino bodes extremely well for us for all the reasons mentioned. Winning Football, Increased Attendance, Bowl Win, Athletic Fee, New Stadium, and better OOC schedule all seem to coincide in what could be a perfect storm. And yes, I'd be running thru the streets of Sarasota Florida Naked with my UNT hat on proclaiming the dominance of MWC football had we been linked so strongly to the MWC. Thank goodness and possibly a lesson learned from the poor saps at USU.
-
With the addition of the 2 from Duncanville my dream list looks like this: WR -1 OL - 2 DT - 1 CB - 1 LB - 1
-
This class just keeps getting better and better! One more DT and 1-2 more Olineman and we can call this one of our most complete classes in a long time. Quality and quantity, can't beat that.
-
And if on Feb 2nd we look up and the rest of our spots are filled with more pressing needs, ala DT or any Oline, then I would be more than happy that we passed, but with 17 on board, unless we get a bunch of last minute guys, I'd hate to see a scholly go ungiven when I think this kid could help in a number of ways. And agreed, he must have family in Belo.
-
Then here's hoping to some coverage sacks then at this point! But honestly, we're 1-2 DT's away from having our D-Line in much better shape, it's not a dire situation yet.
-
100% agree that we have more pressing needs, but not a lot of resources are needed to grab low hanging fruit. 12 miles down the road is easy pickings, one phone call, one visit, kid can play, at a high level, and is a complete back in all regards. A pipeline into his district wouldn't be a bad move either.
-
He'll rethink this decision in years to come, but oh well, his loss, not ours. Plenty of talent out there, still a lot to pan out in the next week... I hope we beat the tar out of UH to open the new stadium. We so deserve as much.
-
I like the proactive thinking Bob but I don't know if it does us much good. I think winning, consistently, along with some better OOC performances conference wide are our only salvation on changing the Belt's perception. Again though, I like the though, just not sure if the execution would play out the way we intend it.
-
Is this logic and reason? They don't get you very far around here... Good post.
-
I like it. I'll do my best to spread it thru the southwest Florida area. Might take me a minute to gain some traction.
-
They balance their sport offerings slightly. FAU has no golf, no mens track and no mens cross country. Others are similar, and we're just starting to collect a Student Fee, that plays a large role in the 1-2 million it would take to fund a team. If we have the space in Title IX compliance, then it's only a matter of time and money before we see it added.
-
I think this is a bad idea upon execution. Good in theory, but only widens the margin of haves and have nots.
-
Totally agreed. If you keep waiting for tomorrow, today keeps passing you by.
-
If he's smart, redshirts a year to get his grades in order, then plays one more, he could be academically eligible to move up as well as retain 3 yrs of playing eligibility, a RS soph. It's not unheard of to RS as a Juco.
