  1. 3 a class, on both sides of the ball... That has to be our mantra. Very interested to see how this all oans out in the next 6 days or so...
  2. I'll be smiling from ear to ear the day I cut that check for two and walk into a packed room. Welcome change. Welcome increased committments, on all aspects. Only means we can expect the same from their end. Just sayin
  3. I don't think we know yet, "officially", but considering he played only a portion of our first game, he should be a clear cut case for a Medical Redshirt. Good Call.
  4. Our only losses are on the road and some have been real head scratchers. Denver's conference record is more of a result of advantageous scheduling than it is an indication of their talent level, imo. We get them twice in the next 3 weeks, so I'll guess we'll find out.
  5. Agreed whole-heartedly. That's kind of what I was trying to say, I don't think the surprises are done here yet and at this point trust DMAC and staff emphatically. Justin Gaines work here isn't done yet. That guys got a bonus available that we don't know about and his wife wants new furniture. Man on a mission. I cannot wait to wake-up on Feb 3rd and see what the nets bring in... Exciting times to say the least.
  6. I emailed my Pops today and told him to pick a game, either FAU or Denver, and I'm buying him and my mom 2 tickets to go watch a hell of a team since I can't. I told him Denver game, could be Conf Championship on the line and Sr Night. Wish I could be there gents, I thought home games were some of the best deals in the metro. I expect to see both games have healthy turnouts, 5K plus is not out of the equation if the AD does a good job of making the games known on campus.
  7. Orlando is a growing city in every respect. UCF has been on the rise since the early 2000's when they were a MAAC team. But keep in mind, they didn't sell-out their home game against SMU for the Conference Championship. But agreed, they're campus and master plan are tremendous and it's a place one could very easily enjoy their time at. They've spent almost 150 million on their Athletic Facilities alone in the past 5 yrs or something, really amazing. I can see us emulating their success in a lot of ways. Now to find a UNT student to be Miss July 2011 for Playboy and do a shoot at the new Stadium... You know Playboy was in town the other day... I now retreat to daydream about two of my biggest loves joining forces... A Mean Green Issue of Playboy... bestill my heart...
  8. 3-4 puts our DT/NG in a double team nearly every play. 4-3 gives the DT's a chance to work one on one, so it would take an even more impactful DT to come in and play the 3-4 successfully. We're not making a huge scheme shift, the DT's we have on the roster have played some, should be familiar with what's expected and I'm not looking for 6 games for them to make it work, more like 1-2. The boy from Duncanville should step in and play right away, so we're really looking for one other starter, and a couple guys that can fill in for 10-20 plays a game. I still think Coach Mac stays with the 4-3 and keeps his eye on long term growth and goals. This would be a knee jerk reaction to a 1 yr problem, if that.
  9. Marshall won their fair share of MAAC championships and played in bowl games like 6 of 7 yrs prior to their move to CUSA, so that move made sense to me at the time. The others, good question.
  10. Very possible they move Torrance Carr to WR as well, played some in HS, 6-3 210, would be a beast outside. And the fact that we don't have a commit here leads me to believe we have higher targets we're eyeing, waiting for the big boy offers to dry up and grab those 3-4 star recruits that are being strung along as back-up plans. Or we could see a DB or two moved around here.
  11. Would like to see another Olineman for sure... Liked the HP kid, maybe we have something else brewing?
  12. I had this same thought about a week ago, why not change the scheme to fit the talent, but then you get to the LB's. You need big LB's to play the 3-4, they have to shed OL and get to the point of attack. This isn't exactly how our LB squad is built at the moment. I also don't see Coach Mac throwing out the book, so to speak, because we're in a pickle this yr. He's got a long term outlook, and that includes recruiting the necessary players for his scheme year in/year out. We might see a 4-3 with zone blitzes, ends dropping off into coverage, but TCU makes their 3-3-5 work with a ton of speed at Corner and Safety, and while I like our depth here, not for a 3-4 or 3-3-5. We have the bodies to make the 4-3 work, several DT's coming in and good sized boys already on the line. Remember, they don't have to be Booger's to make it work, just two big bodies to fill the holes and occupy blockers, allowing Phillips and co to make plays. Coach Mac's presence should be felt along the Dline more than anywhere else, which plays in perfectly to our needs.
  13. I'm not disappointed at all. Solid numbers for the little marketing we get. Most people had no idea the game was even on unless they stumbled across it. Guarantee you it was higher than 5000 TV's in a metroplex of 7 million though. Either ways, good pub, good win and good to see us continuiing to move in the right direction.
  14. I love it! I wish the young man nothing but the best and think he's made a fine decision. If he's got talent, this staff will find a way to utilize it. Weclome aboard Mr Burkes!
  15. Cole's not listed on the Roster on MGS.com, fwiw. Had high hopes for this kid, unfortunate.
  16. 100% agreed about his HS coaches involvement. If I understand everything correctly, which I probably don't, he essentially had to use this yr as a qualifier, so he burns a yr of eligibility. He'll come in as a Sophomore with approximately 2.5 seasons of eligibility remaining. Someone please correct me if I'm mistaken.
  17. That kind of talk gives me chills just thinking about it. This is by far our biggest signing in the last 30 yrs, period. Bigger than Cole or any other transfer. Kid went to class at Pinkston, had no issues there. Missed TAKS by one point on math. Our academic advisors and athletic staff will provide Tony with every resource available to get him eligible. And from the sound of it, he has until the end of the Fall Semester to complete 24 hrs, unless I'm reading that incorrectly? That seems highly manageable.
  18. Late January is a little slow on the FB board, so we'll take any new topic we can get, including, but not limited to, bitching about some d-bags article on coaching rankings. At least we're critiquing someones opinion and not on pure speculation, that's a move forward. I could care less how Cajun Fans feel about their hire, I didn't log on to the Cajun Fan forum now did I. Climb back in your hole and we'll see you and your happy to have him coach next year. Good day sir. I say good day.
  19. I found it all out on the google. The google don't lie.
  20. Nonetheless, i's impressive what they've done and how they 've turned that whole scene around in a relatively short time period. UCF & USF both will be players in the future. Seems earily similar to us in a lot of ways. Come on top 25 ranking!
  21. Especially when you're "randomly" tested for said drugs. Unbelievable.
  22. While there's a legitimate possibility his plan could be to return to Mizzou, I think it's highly unlikely for the reasons stated. In addition, if he planned on bolting to the league next yr, same thing, why not go the JuCo route. I think he sees an ability to step in and start, win conference championships, and play in the NCAA tourney. Coupled with actually being able to enroll and take advantage of the academic resources afforeded to scholarship athetes, it's a win-win for all involved. I'd love to see as many guys as possible move on to the next level, regardless of how many seasons that contribute to on campus.
  23. Bingo. Right now it's all speculation. But I like the speculation we've seen so far, and I still feel that overall, considering all the positions we've filled, this is one of our most solid classes. Remember, we've still got 5 or 6 days for those last few 3-4 star recruits to crawl out the proverbial woodwork. Don't count Coach Gaines out yet, I don't think he's done with his Green Magic. But the 3 commits from yesterday look so solid.
  24. Good call.... Whatever happened with that guy?
  25. To use a line my pastor hits us with all the time: "That right there will preach now" Coach's speeches so far have been inciting and inspiring to say the least.
