Played Ball With Tony Mitchell Last Night
FloMoGrad replied to sparkmank's topic in Mean Green Basketball
All good, I just don't like people being called punks, or throwing out names. To call a member out, all good, but to admit you tagged along with a couple of nice players, doesn't mean you're the shit. But then again, he got the negative comments.. All good, really wished I lived closer. -
Are we really nit picking of 2 players reported sizes. I could care less how tall Riley is? And same for Lance, he runs hard, breaks tackles and breaks long runs. Could giev two shits if he's 5'7 or 5'9. Ahmad Bradshaw is like 5'7 or so, and he seems to fair just fine playing on Sundays. Fact remains we started a QB under 6ft and had 2 WR last yr over 6ft, I'd like to see that addressed thru recruiting, and I think we've seen it has.

Rankings Often Don't Translate To On-Field Success
FloMoGrad replied to FirefightnRick's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
90% of all HS game films sounds like bullshit. Either way, what a great job, watch tape all day, travel to watch games and meet players. Cool gig to say the least. I think it's interesting that TCU and stanford weren't even in the Top 50 recruiting classes, yet both finished the year in the top 5. It's more about what you do when you get them here than it is about getting them here. Chicken/Egg. -
Wonder If Signing Day Will Be Messed Up
FloMoGrad replied to SUMG's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Good question, but in the end, I don't think it makes that much of a difference. Kids can scan them and email them, they go take a picture of their signed LOI and send it to the school if they can't make it to their HS or a nearby office supply store. In the end, I don't see this as a problem we should anticipate having. Good question though. -
We're Eating At The Big Boy Table Now
FloMoGrad replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
But coming off our 5 wins in the last 4 yrs, and working with only 2 months, is reason enough alone to be excited by this class. 3 star players that don't stay on campus or eligible, don't do us much good. 3 contributors from the 17 or so signed in 2007 class. That's abyssmal. This class is hands down better than anything we've seen in the past 5 yrs. How many times did we lose a committed recruit to an AQ during Dodge's tenure, fery few. And maybe just as many as we already have this yr. Last season's recruiting by dodge left is with 12 HS players and 10 Juco's. That's a good class? Negative. Most of Dodge's classes seemed like reaches to me, kids that were lightly recruited or not recruited at all, along with a gut bustnig dose of JuCo talent. There's a time and a place for 2-3 Juco's per year, but 10 in the last class and I think 8 in the class before, doesn't bode well for long-term stability or continuity. I guess it's just a matter of perspective, but TFLF, I'm not tapping any brakes, momentum is a scary thing, I say we ride all this optimism and positive energy right on in to Sept 10th. -
I don't think there's a disproportionate amount of DQ's. The Head Coach turnover has a lot to do with de-commits and the like. And in all honesty, I don't mind seeing a couple kids per class de-commit, only reaffirms the staff's ability to find talent. You go after higher ranked players and all the sudden you're competing with larger FB entity's. This will slow down a large degree when D-Mac and JG get a full yr to build the rapport and trust level with prospective recruits. 2 months is a little hard to build a relationship in.

All I can say is Wow Skiver. Way to take the high ground. If this is what recent grads are like, it's a scary future. Tag along. Trounce on others for taking pride and have some friendly banter back and forth. Then you drop in, unnvited, to tell everyone to shut the hell up. To call anyone else who may have hooped at the Rec a punk is just myopic and uneducated. Your post was a joke, boy. Punks are those that hide behind a wall of anonymity, while name calling and grandstanding. PS - GMG Bball game is coming up, Is mr Baller himself going to attend? -
If you know a few are going Juco, then oh well, I'm cool with it, but intentionally offering more scholarship's than available to "cut" 1 or 2 is complete and total horse shit. Now, who's to say that the school offered, do they supply the executed LOI from there end pre-filled with the athlete's name? If so, then total horseshit! Eitherways.... Horse Shit!
-
Just a joke brother. I don't doubt you are correct, although anything can happen when you place a decision in the hands of an 18yr old.

Starts at 8am central on Wed, Feb 2nd on MeanGreenSports.com.

Gotta like late recruits in the are Top 100! Welcome aboard Chaz! Now call Torrance Carr and Josh Hunter and get them to come back and join you in building something special here.
-
You're wrong, I don't like your version. There's hope damn't, there's hope. They'll come back.
-
Brilliant!

This is an ideal type olineman to me. Soccer builds balance, foot speed, hip mobility, lateral quickness and fast twitch muscle fibers. As long as he didn't just balloon up from 205 to 270 on ding-dongs and Big Mac's, he should be quite an athlete for a big man. Hope we can sign him, would love to have you Mr Juarez! Not far from home, can watch a Hebron Game on Friday night and have your buddies come watch you at our amazing new Stadium on Saturdays.

Good Point. But maybe as kids have time to think, or are holding out for that bigger school, Gaines magic works by what he's already planted. Tomorrow comes and they're still holding out for that AQ offer, it doesn't show, and voila, Justin Gaines magic in a dead period. All extremely wishful optimistic thinking I'll admit.

New Brett Vito Recruiting Update (5:45Pm)
FloMoGrad replied to Mean Green Matt's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Sounds like a Randy Moss type frame. This might help all those we need another WR types. Still like to see some Oline or DT depth here. So 2-3 more recruits max? -
I'd like to see that as well... Stojkovick (sp?) could be an immediate contributer here. Oline depth and DT is still my main area of concern. When you steal things from others, you should only expect to have things stolen back from you. Not a karmic reference at all. Do you think, in light of our 3-4 decommits this year, we'd be better off keeping them on the hush, and not publicized, or is that a non-probability because of rivals and the like?

That would require being patient enough for him to get on the floor, next year. Your demands are unreasonable. He should be playing now. HS recruits should have graduated in December and eligible to help out this season. Anything less is unacceptable. -
I've come to realize the euphemism "it is what it is" actually means: you just got f*cked, nothing you can do about it, might not even be fair, but it's not worth talking about anymore. Committments backing out and going other places. It is what it is.
-
Still have 48 hrs for Gaines to work his magic... All hope is not lost. Yet.
-
This is the reality of the perception of our program rearing it's ugly head. Also the result of not having a full yr or even two to really make in-roads and win over the hearts and minds of prospective student athletes. Sucks right now, but this shit will stop soon enough.
-
Disappointing news to say the least, but we should come to expect as much at this point.
-
While this upsets me a great deal, also only confirms the quality of talent we see the staff going after. Best thing we can do is not overreact until we get the signed LOI on Wed. Thurs morning we can start freaking out, although no matter when we do it, it does us no good. This staff will get the pieces to their puzzle. I have faith. Might lose one or two more, but when you're committing 22 or something, coming off the losing seasons we are, I can understand losing some of our top guys, this yr. This shit won't happen next yr.

Now the best stuff comes from Austin or Northern Cali. So I hear.

College Sports Programs Losing Big Money
FloMoGrad replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
I mentioned this in my first post. Title IX kills the idea of only paying one set of students. Although one could argue that more intense practice schedules and increased risk of serious injury warrant a payment for risks and committments that may not be the same in other sports, and that would not be a Title IX violation. Title IX is all about the opportunity and rough costs of scholarships, but doesn't make it dollar for dollar to take in some of the inherent discrepencies between the equipement costs and so forth of one sport vs the other. Just about opportunity. I would not make this argument, just presenting it. I agree, the get so much for their committment, additional cash or economic incentive is not warranted.
